“The service makes the place!”

Lets start with the accolades. They are extremely friendly on the phone making the reservations to when you check in. They go above and beyond to accommodate you and make your stay memorable. They are a pet friendly hotel which we truly appreciate. The bell hops are patient and extremely helpful. George and Li (for short) are the best. They really work hard and always greet you with a smile or a wave. The cabanas by the water are very affordable. Oh yes, before I forget look into your coupon book they give you at check in there are many discounts you can take advantage of. Now back to the beach, the water is magnificent. I would say the beach can compete with many Caribbean beaches. We even witnessed tarpon jumping out of the water. Eventually the fisherman won but it was really cool to see. The continental breakfast is good but the egg sandwich on the menu is over the top!!! Every morning we were greeted by Joyce who is absolutely a pleasure. Miss her already. The restaurant is clean. We also had dinner in the property two different nights and it never disappointed. Try to make your reservation around sunset time you won't be disappointed. The bar has happy hour from 4-6 Dan our bartender was pleasant. Try the grouper bites, yum, ask for tartar sauce its a nice compliment to the bites. Pauline made a good vodka martini.
Now the difficult part of the review. We had a room on the bay with a kitchenette. It was spacious for two adults. The bathroom was the best feature of the room. It was new, well appointed and comfortable. The kitchenette had many comforts of home. Stocked enough to even make a small meal. My only complaint here was that the microwave was not cleaned properly. Moving forward the bed was comfortable, however, my only complaint is the sheets were dated and worn.
Skip the pool and the pool bar. The drinks are weak and the pool is full of kids. The property has a Marina which is difficult to maneuver. Bring your paddle board / Kayak a lot to explore with those in the area.
Back to accolades, we had a/c issues within 5 minutes they were addressing the issue. There was a small problem with a neighbor and they immediately jumped into action. As I said in my opening sentence, the service truly TRULY makes this property.
One last comment, if you are not familiar with the area. Keep in mind that Captiva Island is about 40 minutes from the toll bridge ($6.00)/ Mainland every time you cross it. So once you are on the property you might just want to stay there and trust me its worth it. There are a few area restaurants that you might want to check out only 5-10 miles away. Make sure you catch a sunset!!! There is a spa on the property but with so much to do we never got to treat ourselves to the spa. A good vacation spot worth checking out.

Tweenwaters is just a great place to relax and enjoy the beach.
The morning continental breakfast was way above the average motel "free continental".
The staff was most helpful and pleasant.
The food in both dining areas was great.
I will return and likely stay more than the 5 days we spent there this Easter.

Room Tip: Book Early

We stayed for three nights in a bay view 1 bedroom unit, booked direct with property for $260/night before taxes & fees.

I have heard "rustic tropical" used in conjunction with this property. The place has a laid back fee and indeed feels "away from it all." Virtually every room is only steps away from the beach, bay or pool- very convenient. Assigned parking for several buildings is underneath your room- convenient and keeps your vehicle cool and out of the sun. Our room was renovated and the job was indeed thorough, save a couple of places where new drywall probably should have been used instead of spakle. From the outside, the buildings (excluding cottages) are long rectangular concrete structures that resemble any inexpensive roadside motel you might find. Breakfast Buffet was nice, I particularly enjoyed the fresh fruit and the fresh cheese danishes.

The crab race was enjoyable but I wish we had been given a flyer on it at check in (since we asked about it.) The reason why is because we thought this was going to be a 10 minute activity like we experienced at another beach property once. In reality, this is a dinner comedy show. You show up at 5:15-5:30, the actual show starts at 6:30 and runs til 7:45 or so. Had we know this we would have eaten before hand or planned to eat at the bar/restaurant. BTW, there is clearly an expectation that you'll buy at least some drinks if not dinner. Understandable once you realize this is a fairly big production… but some folks not in the know will be unprepared and in fact we witnessed some people leaving probably because of this.

While we had a nice stay overall, but the price and quality level are mismatched. Since price is unlikely to change I will shift focus on what they could do better:

Upon arrival I found someone's travel documents in the bottom dresser drawer. I was about to run to the front desk to see if they could track down the folks that just checked out- until I saw that said individuals departed for Germany LAST DECEMBER. Housekeeping tip: in a $260/night room, spend the 90 seconds to open every drawer and wipe it out between each guest. Or, at least do it once every six months.

Almost every walkway, driveway, and parking spot is sand. This is understandable given that the island is basically a big sand bar. However, nothing is really in place to help mitigate this. Your slippers will be covered in sand by the time you get to your room. We always remove our slippers indoors, so this means you have a big pile of sand in the foyer that will eventually be tracked everywhere even if you are careful. The first day, housekeeping didn't even sweep up the foyer. Never did anyone dust the outdoor mat. A simple foot wash at the base of each set of stairs could help alleviate this and certainly housekeeping could be more attentive.

Overall resort cleanliness is OK but not excellent by any means. We visited the pool every night after dinner (6-7PM) to find that it showed a lot of wear from the day. For example, empty cups and other rubbish sitting around the pool. Also look around the property and you'll see cigarette butts and things like that in some of the planted areas.

A property such as Sanibel Moorings offers things like free kayak and canoe usage, gas grills, etc. I doubt Tween would want to give free use of kayaks since this is a money maker for them, but at their price point I think they should consider gas grills which are more convenient and accessible to a larger audience (we ended up buying a single use bag of charcoal at the corner market for $10.)

Marketing material for the property advertises "private beach." I believe this is technically inaccurate. Unless I am mistaken, coastal shoreline access belongs to the People in FL, vs. a property owner. However, if the property does want to lay claim to this stretch of sand- treat it like you own it. Send a maintenance person though once every morning to throw away rubbish. We set our blanket and umbrella up near the same rubbish all four days we used the beach- things like a used bathing suit.

The clerk at check in was helpful and friendly. Upon checkout, we weren't asked whether we had any problems, enjoyed our stay, nor were we thanked or given a simple "see you next time." Clerk wasn't rude by any means but certainly a self-checkout kiosk could have provided the same level of hospitality.

In summary we had a nice time and generally like this property. However one gets the impression that they're grown a little too comfortable by relying on location and low supply and high demand for rooms at Captiva resorts.

A beautiful spot on a breath taking island. I love the simple peace and pure beauty of the area. It's the only vacation spot I have come home from feeling totally relaxed. We just love it there! So many friends have taken our advice and escaped to the Tween Waters !

5th trip to sanibel and captiva this was the first time to stay at tween the waters. We stayed for 7 days at the end of April this will be the only place we will stay again. Thanks to Carol for taking care of our reservations. We had the best view of the beach and a wonderful fruit and cheese basket when we arrived. Staff is wonderful. Had a great pool bar and two nice restaurants. Jasmine the hostess at the crows nest always took care of us.The breakfast buffet had great Danishes and fresh fruit. They have everything you need there, only left to sightsee one day.The beach is great. Thanks to everyone for making our trip so wonderful.

We have been visiting the marina at Tween Waters for many years because of the resort amenities and location. The marina staff has always been courteous and helpful. We have even led numerous boating members of our boat club to this location. Most recently 8 boats. Although we regretted seeing the gradual deterioration of the marina related facilities in recent years we were hopeful that the recent change in ownership would result in refurbishment of the facilities. Unfortunately it has not. The restroom/shower facilities were in disrepair and poorly lit. Several did not have functional air conditioning. Cable TV is no longer available on the docks. The dock structures themselves are in need of repair/upgrading when compared to other resort marina facilities in the area If improvements are not made soon we wont be returning and some of our club members have already indicated they probably wont be back.

Seriously the best place to escape everything. We would have our beach lounge chairs reserved and all set up for us when we went down to the ocean each morning. Our Beach towels waiting for us. Then wander to the pool to take a refreshing dip, grab some munchies or lunch at the poolside vendor. OMG....I need to seriously get back down there for another visit and get out of the MI winters!!!

Room Tip: We did not rent a house. We stayed in the rooms of the hotel overlooking the ocean. I believe all th...
