“Needs a lot of help”
Reviewed 12 March 2014

Pluses: easy beach access/parking, room is tastefully decorated, very quiet even though it is next to a busy restaurant, breakfast choice at either restaurant is excellent.

Negatives: tub has mold and needs re-caulking, shower head does not work, porch door from room got stuck every time it was opened or shut, overhead light at the indoor entrance is out making it difficult to see the lock, the pleated shades on the door were filthy, and the biggest problem was the AC system. If you like your room to be 60 - 65, you will be happy. I had to climb on the bed to close the vents so we wouldn't freeze.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. The Main celebration house has central air conditioning that has been replaced with a new unit that has individual thermostats for each room.

We can't say enough good about this place.
My partner & I have been going to Captiva/Sanibel for 15+ years now.
This was our second time to stay at the B&B. We love the vintage old Florida feel to all the cottages. The bonus is most are completely separate little cottages. Yes, some are very small, while others are spacious. Like most vacationers we don't spend a lot of time in our room, so space wasn't an issue.
Speaking of issues, we had one with a particular cottage.
Once we voiced our concern Corbin (the property manager) took immediate action.
We were immediately moved to a new cottage with-in an hour, now that's excellent service!!!
We think it's fair to say this, it's not the newest, nicest, most updated places to stay on the Island. However, in our opinion, it is the best value & has the friendliest staff we've experienced. Not to mention it's a total throw back in time!!!
We were treated like a real guest in someone's home, not "room 312 needs towels!"
The other guests were very friendly as well. It's like small community, very safe, very peaceful. The free breakfast gets you some GREAT food!
Not just a piece of fruit, but an entire menu at two restaurants.
Our favorite part about this trip was meeting 3 other guests, that we will stay in touch with for years to come. We never wanted for anything. If we needed more of anything, it was there in a flash. Speaking of "flash" when on Captiva you must eat at "The Green Flash" & Sunshine Seafood.
We've never felt compelled to leave feedback on a website such as this. That said, a friend of ours went on-line and was reading some of the feedback left by others. We were shocked to learn of someone else having a bad experience. Begs the question, did those folks voice a concern?
Thank you Corbin, Jason & Christina for making our vacation a relaxing and joyful one!!!

Room Tip: We referred to ourselves as "the gypsies" because we stayed in several different cottages...

Thank you for taking the time to write a nice review of your experience. As you mentioned perfectly we have an eclectic assortment of rooms, guests who come with an open mind and want value will not be disappointed. There are other luxury accommodations on the Island along with the Luxury prices, additional fees, resort fees, chair rental fees, etc...

Travelers: If you read negative reviews on sites such as this and have concerns please call the hotel directly and speak with one of our front desk clerks who are knowledgeable of every room and property and can explain in detail what to expect and find a good match for your needs. The Main Celebration House is upscale and modern and the cottages are old Florida style cottages.

Thanks again Dennis for the nice review and we hope to see you again next year!

I came to Captiva Island with my sister and dear friend for a girls weekend. We booked at the Captive inn, and they upgraded our room to the Lantana room instead of the Daisy cottage. It was a nice room overlooking the street. We sat out and enjoyed a glass of wine on the deck and listened to live music from across the street. While these accommodations are not up to date, they are clean and comfortable, and for the right price. If you complain about the curtains for the rust you just need to get over yourself! That's what you get for $120 per night on this Island….Everything else will cost you your first born child. We loved the charm and character of this place. You cannot beat the location also! Just a short distance to the beach. Anyway, I would recommend this place to anyone with an imagination and a limited budget! If your nose is up in the clouds you should look elsewhere. We would totally stay here again! Plus the breakfast vouchers (about a $20 value) were a huge bonus and the breakfast was really good.

Just got back from staying at the Captiva Island Inn. Location is perfect. Cottages seem to be warm and cozy. Great included breakfast. We stayed in The Iris Cottage. Great size for a family a 4. Just a little heads up, it is in need of updates and repairs. When I got home, I inquired about what needed to be done. The manager told me it is in line for a update after the busy season. Soooooo, I recommend asking if it has been updated yet. It will be a perfect spot once it has been updated and repaired. (i.e.. doors not working, locking or closing, bathroom work, new couch and new appliances in kitchen) Don't want anyone getting stuck staying in a cottage that needs so many repairs. I'm confident, once repairs have been made the cottage will be perfect.

The Gardenia Suite was all right; several small problems, like no hot water, which were addressed immediately. The walls are furnishings are scuffed, bedding is sub-par, but the location is great! It's right next to the Key Lime Bistro & we could sit outside and listen to the live music which played all day/evening. The beach is just a short walk away. Breakfast was included and was also wonderful- we went to RC Otters every day due to the sunny tables outside. The last night we switched to the Honeymoon suite, as the Gardenia was not available and it was amazing. Absolutely huge, with great furnishings-much, much nicer. Would love to stay there again!

This was my second visit to Captiva Island Inn, the first being in 2002.It was a lovely and memorable experience then and I wanted to return in 2013. The Inn gave me the same excellent service and completely surprised me by upgrading me to the best cottage on the property. I can't say enough about this magical place. I highly recommend them to anyone wishing for a quaint, quiet vacation tucked away on an island paradise.

My boyfriend has spent most of his adult life vacationing on Captiva, so I was excited to share the island with him. The inn where he normally stays (Jensen's) was booked, so he recommended The Captiva Island Inn based on experience years ago. We booked the Rosebud suite, and based on the websit, expected charmimg, imperfect old Florida style. Instead, what we got was run-down, stained, and neglected. The potential charm of the room was marred by stains on the bedskirt, a very saggy mattress, stains in the tub's drain, and an incredibly noisy dehumidifier and air conditioner. The frame around our window has rotted and is taped together with black duct tape. When my boyfriend asked for the hairdryer, he was given the kind that attaches to the wall. I had to hold the part that attaches to the wall so that he could hold the hose side close enough to dry his hair. Getting a proper hairdryer for paying guests has nothing to do with being quaint.

In summation, the only positives with the Rosebud are the great breakfasts that come with the room at the local restaurants and the wonderfully convenient location. But unfortunately, neither of these is enough reason to return. its a shame management isnt willing to put some needed money into appropriate capital improvements that keep the charm of the historic cottage, but also make it clean, comfortable, more functional and worth the $1000 for four nights that we paid.
