“Great Stay”
Reviewed 18 November 2013

Great views from living area with a large sliding door opening to a screened in balcony overlooking the ocean. Slept with the doors and windows open taking in the ocean air. The only draw back was the noise of the traffic on the main thoroughfare that is adjacent to the unit. However, that died down considerably after midnight and did not start up again till sun up The resort is a short walk down the beach to eating places and shops. Everything provided was in top shape and the unit was very clean and well maintained. We enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: We were on the second floor #3 South beach which was convenient and offered great views. The road no...

We had reserved the "On the Beach" unit as my wife LOVES to be as close as the beach as possible. Sounded very appealing as you can walk out your door and you are on the beach. On arrival we were bowled over by the stale/mildew smell in the unit. Plus it was TINY - barely enough room to walk around the bed. It did have a nice screened in porch, but the constant traffic in front of the unit provides for a lot of noise and zero privacy. Bottom line, we weren't happy. None of the reservations are handled locally at the site, you have to call a family member out of state to inquire about making any changes. Now we have stayed in many hotels close to the water, and in fact our family owns a beachfront hotel, so when we were told it was just "beach smell" we know what is normal and what is not. In fact one of the housekeepers later told us that they have always had "problems" with this unit (being the only ground level room on the property), and that they had just totally gutted it, cleaned it with bleach, etc., and nothing helped. Anyway long story short, we were fortunate that a long term renter had just cancelled their reservation for the "Beach Nest" due to the construction on the beach, and we were offered that for a bit more money, but significantly less than the regular rate for the room. That unit was beautiful (though set back a bit from the beach) and we were satisfied.
Pros: Location is great - you can walk on the beach right into the village, close to the water, nice sunset views, on-site staff was friendly, etc. Room was very clean and well maintained.
Cons: No maid service (you can't even turn in your used towels for fresh ones, you have to do your own laundry - a bit strange and annoying when you're paying $300-$400/night for a room!) and the fellow taking reservations is just a bit too smooth and not always entirely forthcoming, as has been commented on in a few other reviews.
Overall we enjoyed our stay.

My husband, 3-year old son and I have just returned from a glorious 10 days spent in the Jensen House owned by Jensen's on the Gulf and we can't wait to go back. Earlier this year we visited The Mooring's Village in Islamorada, voted one of the top 10 resorts in Florida but I think we agree that this was by far better. The house is quite secluded but with direct access to the beach and a short walk or drive to Andy Rosse Lane where R.C. Otters serve the best breakfast in town. You can watch the sunset from the large deck and for most of the time we were there the beach was almost deserted. The Jensen brothers were super friendly and in fact it is testament to their good service that I felt compelled to write my first Tripadvisor review. We also had a great fishing trip with Jesse who works out of the Jensen's Marina. He was great with our son and helped him reel in his first fish ever. All in all a great holiday! Thank you Jensens!

My wife and I have just arrived back in the UK after spending a fantastic week at Jensens, we stayed in the beach nest, which was wonderfull, well equiped, spacious and quiet. Before booking Jensons I read a lot of the reviews on Trip Advisor and the one thing that stood out was the friendliness of the owners, we found this to be so true, we received a warm welcome from Dave and nothing seemed to much trouble. We had been pre warned about the Beach re-construction taking place directy in front of the Jensons property prior to our visit and were offered a dicount on our stay for the iconvenience caused, which was a lovely gesture as the works were totally outside of Jensons control!!

What is also great about the jensens location is that you can walk to all the local resaurants, so other than visting other parts of Sanibel the car stayed parked all week. We loved the Captiva lifestyle the Island was just so laid back, the Beaches lovely and we had a fantastic weeks weather, we would have no hesitation in recommending Jensens and hope to return next year!!

We truly LOVED Jensen's on the Gulf! Adorable place, fantastic location!! We stayed in the Post Office Sweet.......it's beautifully decorated to beachy perfection, well equipped. A VERY short walk across a sandy shell parking lot, and you're at the beach. We had no complaints, and would definitely stay here again :)

My wife and I were scheduled to stay at "On the Gulf" from October 10-October 15. However, a huge industrial operation is (currently) in the process of "replenishing" the beach--moving sand from the sea floor to the coastline. On Thursday October 10, the bulk of the equipment was directly--I mean exactly--in front of Jensen's "On the Gulf" and their beach was closed, cordoned off with orange fencing.

I have one complaint and I'll state it first: Keith, the fellow who handles reservations for "On the Gulf", did not notify me until Wednesday, October 9, the day before our check-in. I was leaving that night and my wife was already in Florida, so this was much too late. I am fully aware that the start date was unclear and they had no control over it, but Keith really should have warned us sooner that this was possible so we could change plans if we wished.

Now on to how the Jensen brothers dealt with this:

-they refunded our deposit immediately.

-they let us stay in one of their marina cottages Thursday night for free (and we found other beachfront accommodations for Friday-Tuesday). The marina cottages are very nice, but my wife really wanted to be gulf-front while I fished during the day.

-they loaned me, for free, all the fishing gear that was loan-able.

More to the point, they were apologetic, friendly, and helpful at every turn. They also put me onto a great fishing guide, Nelson Diaz, whom I recommend wholeheartedly.

My family has visited St George Island in the northern gulf at least 10 times and we love it. But I have to say, in ALL of those visits combined, the fishing guides and especially the tackle/bait store owners were not as helpful as the Jensens staff was on this one trip. They are knowledgeable, but, most of all, they are just plain friendly. People don't talk to you like you're an idiot because your fishing experience is in freshwater back in Indiana.

Our experience was not perfect, but it could have been a whole lot worse. Faced with a difficult situation that was beyond their control (minus the part about giving us a little earlier heads up), the Jensens showed what kind of people they are. We were impressed.

Go here.

The setting is really wonderful with a view to the ocean that you can walk to, private balcony. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom adequate but very small and the shower floor was not clean. There was a little side closet/room with a small refrigerator and coffee maker that was handy. The Honeymoon Suite was clean but a little dated but okay for "beachy". Only one free outlet in the whole place except for a double outlet in the bathroom it was hard to charge our phones and iPads. The TV was very old but then that is not why we were there.
My "private beach paradise" was ruined because this idyllic setting was located on a corner of the main road. The road was not visible from our room, but the trucks and car traffic noise was definitely loud and annoying and took away from the ambiance of the setting. The noise was not bothersome on the beach, only in our room and porch, even with the air conditioning turned on. There was no maid service or towel exchange but the gentleman on premises was polite and brought a cooler of ice when we arrived. I think this would be better suited to families with children for the beach access but not for a romantic getaway unless you don't mind the traffic noise.

Room Tip: Just know there is a good amount of road noise especially in the upstairs Honeymoon Suite. If you ca...
