“very good stay”
Reviewed 26 August 2009

My wife & I spent 3 enjoyeble days at the Ferry House Inn, The food was
excellent both at breakfast & dininng in the evening, the menu had good
choices.

The Inn in the evening had a very nice atmosphere and the real ale was
superb, sitting by the window looking out to the estuary was a bonus.

The twin bedded room also with good view, clean and with most essentials.
The staff were professional & efficient and the family were particularly
friendly.

I was amazed reading other reviews their comments were well over thr top and were not very nice to the owners & staff

This is not an advertisement for the Ferry House Inn, but a genuine review
by satistified guests who would not hesitate to stay there in the future.

We had booked a party of 11 into this Inn as we were diving. At the time of booking we mentioned that we would need an early breakfast as we needed to be at the marina by 9am so wanted breakfast at 8am, so hardly an unreasonable request, especially as we had booked all the rooms! We were offered help yourself cereal and fruit juice with prawn or chicken sandwiches. This was unacceptable to the party so we had breakfast at the marina.

If you are a party that needs to be away before 9am stay somewhere else.

Apart from that, bedrooms are perfectly acceptable, beds comfortable, good selection of food and two types of well-kept real ale on tap.

We had booked a 3 nights stay to explore S. Pembrokeshire. It was a mistake and we left after 1 night, happy to pay the penalty of a one night charge to get out of the place.

While sounding and appearing idyllic on the websites, The Ferry Boat Inn is in fact a run down pub with a restaurant and a number of rooms to let. To be fair, some effort has been made to develop the place some years ago but the impetus has not been carried through.

Specifically, the place was filthy with dust and cobwebs all over the light fittings and much of the furniture in the rooms in the room and bathroom. The heating was eccentric the rooms being either boiling hot or freezing. The food was indifferent - to be kind - and the plaice fillets served for dinner were inedible. They were probably on the cusp of being rotten, which was probably why they were served meat down and skin up. The stink from the plaice was indescribable ; needless to say it was not consumed. I have eaten in hotels and inn all over the world and this has to count in my top 3 worst ever meals. Notwithstanding, we did not complain as we had already decided we would leave the property first thing in the morning and we wished to be able to recoup some of our deposit.

The property seems to be used a lot by workers at the nearby oil refinery at Milford Haven. They appeared to be treated well as regular corporate guests which is natural.

Generally the staff were friendly while the management, sensing that we were about to leave early, was quite aloof and withdrawn taking every opportunity to advise us that we were lucky to secure rooms and that they had been turning people away due to our booking. I found this surprising as a Bank Holiday fell during our planned stay and we noticed several of the rooms unoccupied. Also, the "resident" workers were saying "Goodbye - see you next week" .... all rather conflicting with the "we are full" stance from the management.

In summary, poor location overlooking Pembroke Docks and alongside the oil refinery, disgusting public rooms with frayed and dirty furniture, a reasonably appointed restaurant with foul cuisine, recalcitrant management and filthy, grubby, smelly rooms.
Otherwise it's OK:-))

Never again!
