This the second time I have been to Okeechobee on business and stayed at the Holiday Inn Express. I don't think you can do any better. Room rates were in line and the breakfast is excellent. Rooms are very clean and the service at the front desk was excellent. In the words of Genral Dougal McArthur, "I'll shall return."

We stayed here in August based on Trip advisor ratings. We thought they were spot-on as usual. Let me explain: I always figure one star for a place that should be shut down up to 5 stars for a location that would give you a world class experience, whatever that may be to you. This was a typical NEW American motel in the same category as the Comfort Inn / Hampton Inn tradition. It was not a world class experience to us, but it was just fine. It was a new facility so you would expect it to be clean; it was. The Clerk was quick, courteous and helpful as he let us check in early as I was in town on business and my wife accompanied me. I was hoping to keep her entertained at the pool while I was at the job:). She enjoyed it. The room was roomy and comfortable with the usual accoutrements: Fridge, microwave, ironing board and iron, coffee maker and a TV with 2 premium channels:). The wireless had 4 bars, which isn’t bad and I had absolutely no trouble logging on. Only fault was the bed had a “firm” (HARD) mattress which kept me up most of the night althouth the bedding was clean. The building does have elevators, in case anyone needed to know. The morning breakfast was the usual fare for this type of motel. Nice common area room with a large screen TV. Everything was fine except the scrambled eggs apparently had been kept in the heated pan and stirred much too long. By the time we got there, at 8:30, they had turned into hard little ball bearings. Otherwise it was fine including the sausage and bacon, juice, pastries and cereals. The facility is fine but is it much better that the next two rated listings on Trip advisor? I doubt it. I looked at both of the facilities (Hampton and Travelodge) and they all looked similar and I’m sure they would also be just fine. If you can save substantial cash, don’t be shy about checking either one of these out.

We spent two nights here so we could explore the area around Lake Okeechobee. After a poor stay in Miami, this place was a breath of fresh air. We were welcomed at reception with cups of coffee and a little later, the receptionist came looking for us with a tray of freshly baked cookies. The service was nothing less than amazing. When I mentioned about trips on the lake, the receptionist insisted on phoning around for me. The room was spacious and spotless. All in all I could not fault the place. Continental breakfast was included in the room rate.
For evening meals I recommend "Cowboys". The steaks were fine and the bar can get a bit lively but that is part of the charm of the place.

We arrive late and were greeted by a very polite staff member who made us feel right at home.

Rooms were great and beds very comfortable.

Hotel is off the road so you hear no traffic. Good planing as this town has a steady flow of traffic through it.

breakfast is all disposable plates etc but fool quality was very good and buffet service which meant you can eat and run very quickly

Just had a one night stay at this lovely hotel. The accomodating is excellent. Try get room 102 on ground floor lovely big modern room. The breakfast is included and has an excellent variety to choose from. Gym and Laundry facilities are provided.

Avoid the Pizza Hut at the end of the parking lot food barely passable and staff terrible. Maybe Taco Bell down the road. Big Walmart Superstore 2 minutes away.

We were told hotel is about 1 1/2 years old. Looked even newer. Very pristine lobby and hallways.

LOVED the new HIE bed system -- wonderful linens and great mattress. Towels were 'thick and thirsty'.

Breakfast was several notches above average for free "continental" breakfasts.

Staff was helpful on all inquiries and very agreeable to a 2-hour late checkout that accomodated the special event we were in town for.

Outdoor pool looked great. Wish we'd had time to use it.

I travel for my job and have stayed at this hotel about 8 times. It is the newest hotel in Okeechobee. Other options are mom-and-pop-type places (cement clock motels) and the Best Western. I have not stayed at any of these but they don't look as nice from the outside as the Holiday Inn Express. The HIE is very clean, safe, offers a great breakfast, cookies in the late afternoon/evening, is fairly quiet (noise from other guests in hallways), has a small exercise room with cardio equipment, and good staff (polite, friendly).

  • Liked — clean and safe
  • Disliked — no fridges in rooms
