A great place for a walk or have a bike ride. It's a nice place to have a picnic and feed all the ducks there.

This man-made lake known to locals as "Swan Lake" is a great place to walk your dog, or take a young child to feed the many ducks, geese, swans, grebes and coots that reside on the lake. There is also a few picnic tables and benches around it, but I'd only advise eating there if you don't mind being mobbed by over confident swans!!! If you take your bikes down, you can go up the ramp on the far side of the lake and take a left and follow the cycle route all the way down to Shipley Country Park without ever needing to come off the path and is a lovely ride past some more lakes. If you take a right instead, it is good for younger children with bikes or scooters as it takes you through Kirk Hallam and Stanton, along the canal and down to the crossroads at Sandiacre. This path is very flat so any unconfident riders will be put at ease. You will share the path with dog walkers and other cyclists as it is a very popular and pretty route. It is free to park your car at Straws Bridge.

Very pleasant area for a stroll with or without dogs. Well maintained paths, plenty of bins and areas to stop and watch the waterfowl or just have a quiet conversation.

Straws Bridge is a nature reserve situated on the A609 on the border of West Hallam and Ilkeston. Walk around the lakes or watch the numerous birds feeding it is a very calming place. There are picnic tables and plenty of car parking space available.
