Was searching for a local Bed and Breakfast as I was attending a Wedding in Orange Park in July 2007. I must say that everyone I dealt with was very kind and gracious. I was offered to stay in the Main House or the River Suites. As the Main House was to be the site of 2 Evening Weddings they suggested the River Suites as they stressed that it could be very noisy staying in the Main House on Friday and Saturday Night as there would be Evening Weddings both nights. So I made a reservation at the River Suites which my final bill for 3 nights was approximately $450. I must say I was disappointed in the condition of the room. The furniture was beautiful and the room nice on first glance. However, as our stay progressed I was more and more disappointed. The Room all in all did not seem to be that clean and had a well worn feeling to it. The Patio Sliding Doors were flimsy and hard to secure. There was a beautiful view of the St. Johns River and the Buckman Bridge but the small balcony had the Heat Pump sitting on it and everytime you tried to sit on the balcony you had to listen to the heat pump rattle which greatly decreased any pleasure you might have had sitting outside on the balcony to view the River. Also, there was no canopy over the balcony and in July with the sun beating down it was impossible to sit outside on the balcony and drink your coffee in the morning without melting!! The refrigerator in our room did not work - The drinks we placed in the refrigerator were nowhere near cold. On all 3 mornings we were not left enough coffee service for the 4 cup Coffee Maker so my husband hiked up to the Main House for both of us to have a cup of coffee. There were few amenities in the bathroom except for 2 small soaps, 1 small shampoo, and 1 lotion which were present when we arrived but never replenished. I specifically left a request for extra towels on our first morning but this request was not met. And on the final day (with check-out time at 11am) the room service person loudly knocked on the door at 10am to find out when we were leaving!!
Again---everyone we dealt with was very nice especially the staff in the continental breakfast room. The continental breakfast was very good except that a hot entree is only served on Saturday and Sunday Morning (and it was a very good Egg Bake.) Again, this establishment should not advertise as Bed and Breakfast as there is no real personal service and it is similar to staying at a chain hotel. I would not say "don't stay there" but also I would not say it was an outstanding experience which is what I expected.
