Holiday Inn & Suites Across from Universal Orlando
Ranked #170 of 340 Hotels in Orlando

To start, the location was Perfect to me. It's directly across from the entrance to Universal which seems like a short walk but either pay $5 (plus gratuity of course) for a cab or drive. You will not feel like walking back once you've enjoyed the park and it is quite a hump! The Hotel was great. I was in a 2 BR suite which was Very spacious and both bedrooms had a separate shower/sink. The room was clean, a little wear on the shower curtain but I wasn't turned off; again it was Clean! Staff was friendly on every encounter and I used the front desk quite a bit. Elevators were quick and the wait was never too long, hallways were clean, not too noisy which really can't be controlled when you're in a kid friendly environment. The breakfast at TGI Fridays was buffet style and nothing fancy. There was fruit, eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, oatmeal, grits, toast, assorted cereals...that kind of stuff and it was good. I was there on 2 separate mornings and the wait staff was friendly both times. The stay was overall good, some Very minor things not worth mentioning but nothing I can complain about. You can't beat the rates for the space. I would definitely stay here again!!!

Room Tip: 2 BR suites are very spacious but there is no stove so no need to shop for actual groceries that hav...

Nice, huge suite, with comfortable, clean beds. Adequate kitchen. Typical Holiday Inn bathroom with shower/tub. Great stay for family. Front desk was awesome in handling all my arrangements. Quiet for the busy location. Connected to TGI Friday's. Ideal for family vacation.

The suite was huge (3 rooms), 2 bedrooms with 2 queen beds with a bath room in each, big living room and even a small kitchen. The hotel's furniture and decor were a little dated, but it was comfortable and clean. The mattresses were comfortable and we all slept well. Even the outdoor pool was heated. The staff were helpful and friendly. There was an iHOP within a half mile for breakfast and you could walk to Universal. This hotel and it's location made it a great vacation.

This hotel is conveniently located directly across from the entrance to Universal and was easy to get to from the airport. You can tell they get a lot of people passing through - everything was super clean but showing some signs of wear. The room was very clean and quiet, the seminar/meeting room our group had was just what you'd expect, all in all a good stay right up until they threw some of our stuff out.
We requested late check-out and the front desk confirmed it. We took some of our bags down to the car early to save time and left food, our own coffee, leftovers, etc. in the room fridge, along with a nice tote, etc. in the room for later removal. When that time came, our room key didn't work and we only got back in because the housekeeping supervisor happened to be inspecting the room, which had been freshly cleaned for the next guest already. No one told housekeeping about the late check out, they didn't ask a question, decided we were gone and threw out our stuff. After much brouhaha, our tote was located but everything else was gone. The front desk offered a $30 discount, but it leaves a bad taste in your mouth nonetheless. The nice housekeeper said it best when she was yelling into the walkie talkie, asking for someone to come help (in spanish) "because we're going to lose this customer!" It wasn't her fault, but she's right, they did lose this customer.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent stay with us. I want to apologize for the unfortunate experience that you had at our hotel regarding the thrown out food. It truly saddens us to know that we may lose valued guests over this matter. I would like to discuss this with you at your earliest convenience, and would like the opportunity to personally invite you back. Please contact me.

A good value stay for a family. Get a one-bedroom suite with separate bedroom if you've children with you, and you'll enjoy your stay so much more.

This was our second time staying at this hotel (last time two years ago), and we chose it because of its in-suite amenities and location. It's not a luxury resort location, but it does serve VERY well as a base for a family vacation. Last time we stayed in a 10th floor suite, and received a 9th floor suite this time, again with a view of the parking lot across the street (not Universal side), but expect that it was quieter than the traffic side.

PROS:
- obviously across the road from Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure at Universal (you can easily walk)
- Universal has numerous great restaurants and bars, as well as a Cineplex, that you do not need to pay entry for (it's all in a publicly accessible area, but you must clear security first if you've bag/backpack)
- if you've a car, going to Super Target for groceries, and adult beverages, is very easy
- ditto for high end goods at the nearby outlet malls and the Mall at Millenia (luxe shops galore - bring platinum card!)
- free meals for kids at the connected TGIFridays
- easy enough walk to other restaurants along South Kirkman Road
- one-bedroom suites have good kitchenette and decent layout (separate bathroom area that can be doored-off from the living room area, and leads to bedroom area)
- again for one-bedroom suite: two televisions (one in bedroom, another in living room)
- having a kitchenette will allow you to save money on breakfast out, and allow you to start your day on your own schedule AND (perhaps most importantly) one spouse can have coffee, watch the news, feed the kid(s), etc ....while the other sleeps in!

CONS:
- the hotel pool is not luxurious, but a decent enough for sunbathing and cooling off (towels provided in poolside rack, but no lifeguard)
- bonus: a mini kiddie water splash area that's fenced off - great for toddlers, etc
- hotel ballrooms/conference area has constant events, so there's many non-staying visitors to the hotel daily/nightly
- ticket sellers in lobby might try to get you roped into a timeshare selling seminar

Room Tip: Get a one bedroom suite for the space and kitchenette. Good for family stay too.

We stayed here Feb/14 and if you want a good nights sleep, this hotel is not the place. I have never stayed in a hotel with so many slamming doors. We were here for 2 weeks and the first week we were put on the same floor as a school trip. Running in the halls, yelling and screaming followed by the slamming down was a little too much. We brought the situation to the front desk 3 times, but it didn't make a difference. Even if you wanted a lay down in the afternoon you were greeted with slamming doors by other guest and the cleaning staff.
The temp of the pool was very nice, but don't expect to get a lounge chair as they're few and far between
