“Nice Walk”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 March 2013

We spent an afternoon walking around the Church Street Shops, viewed the Old Historic Train Station. We parked at Lincoln Plaza and admired the architecture of downtown. As we walked around it appeared there were some homeless walking the streets and sleeping in a park. There was also "hooker activity" around the train station. Glad it was daylight...typical downtown medium-sized city.

“mixed feelings”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 August 2012

I lived in Orlando for the past 17 years, I have been going to church street forever. presently, it is home to a few rowdy night clubs and a few restaurants, the night clubs seem to attract the young crowds so i don't recommend them for 30+, the restaurants are nice however you do have to endure walking through the rowdy area where the clubs are located.

“Authentic African-American/Carribean/African culture, gifts, & food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 November 2009

Below is a description of the places I saw while on an African American History Tour of Orlando. These business are on WEST Church street (Across from the new Arena), west of I-4 (NOT Church Street Station which is east of I-4). The tour company is Florida Cultural Tours. But, if you are a local, you could easily go there yourself w/out taking a tour.

Johnson's Family Soul Food. This place was featured on the Travel Channel and is some of the best soul food in Orlando. It is a center of African-American culture. Another good place is

Paradise Island. This restaurant features Caribbean cuisine and is long established in the community.

Shopping is available at All Tied Up, if you need unique mens formal-ware. They showed my husband how to properly tie a bow tie.

Headstart Books an African-American Book Store which has novels, children's books, political books and more! It is an awesome place for hard to find literature.

3-Masks features AUTHENTIC west African art/statues (mostly Ghana). The owner also is a travel coordinator of trips to West Africa!

Zion's Daughter features the handiwork of Andria Brown, who is an expert seamstress/tailor. She has novelties and fiber art in her shop as well.

Shiobhan Charles Salon is next to Johnson's and the professionals there are able to style various ethnicities of hair. They are the exclusive retailer in Orlando for Miss Jessie's and Carol's Daughter products. It is a Paul Mitchell certified salon.
