My wife and our 3 children (ages 6, 5, 2) decided to stay at a Disney property for 2 nights prior to our real vacation at Cocoa Beach. After some internet research, we selected the Wilderness Lodge.
Comments:
- The hotel decor & theme is nice, but not nearly as much of a wow factor as the similar Lodge near Animal Kingdom.
- The rooms are smallish for the price, and feel a bit dated. Bunk beds were a fun novelty.
- We paid more to be on a higher floor with a balcony. That was wasteful for our family. Didn't use it once.
- We really didn't understand how "Disney Transportation" works. Had we, we would have selected a hotel that is on the monorail.
- Taking the boat to / from Magic Kingdom was fun, but lengthy process.
- Taking a bus to / from Epcot is not as much fun and a lengthier process.
- We ate several times at the quick serve "Roaring Fork". It was ok for the kids. Pretty bland for us.
- Why does a hotel that costs 300 - 400 a night have powdered coffee machines? Really?
- Drinks at the pool bar were not resort quality, but resort priced.
- We ate once at the Canyon restaurant. Great service, very bland food. Particularly for the price.
- Pool was packed most of our time there, but they have the staff to handle it.
- Water slide was fun

All in all, this was not a bad place to stay. Its just not great for the money. I think the real value in staying in a higher end resort is the caliber of families staying there with you. Most of the families were classy, nice, and happy.

The lobby of this place is stunning. There are many pictures online to get an idea of what I'm talking about. The room was average -- it was clean but nothing special. Our view was part woods and the back service parking lot and some dumpsters (where's the Disney magic to hide that stuff?) The staff was nice, but their uniforms are horribly dated. The pool was nicely designed and very fun to look at, but it and the deck space around it were far too small for a resort of this size. However, the hotel is in close proximity to the Magic Kingdom and the ferry boat takes you right to the park, which is a big plus. I would stay here again, but don't expect to be awed by anything other than the lobby.

This was our second 10 day stay at Wilderness Lodge and we loved it. The grounds were beautiful, the room was clean and the staff friendly. The pool is nice, but deck chairs are hard to come by in the afternoon. Whispering Canyon is fun to eat at and the food was good. Booked a bunkbed room over looking the "Otter Pond" which at this time was a "Gator Pond". Look forward to staying there again.

Room Tip: Room was clean and small...rarely there.

My 18 year old daughter and I just returned from her graduation celebration trip to Disney. We used the online registration, and there was no wait at all. I lobby is beautiful, it looks like a very large log cabin. The Mercantile is stocked with supplies you might need, as well as disney merchandise. We loved the signs in lobby telling where everything is. We had a room with the woods view. Elevators were great, no wait. Bed and the pillows were great to after a day at parks. We loved the boat to Magic Kingdom, it was fast and relaxing. The boat as went to the Contempary Resort , where we had a reservation. We also booked a massage at the Study Branches, we really enjoyed it, especially after riding roller coasters the night before. Now what didnt go so well, as many have said the rooms are dark, so what we did was turn on very light we could find, so that worked. The bus ride to Downtown Disney took forever, so it seems to me. My daughter is sensitvie to smell and everytime we walked by Artist Pointe, we smelled a strange odor. We also ate at the Wispering Canyon, dont eat there if you have a daughter that does not want attention, or gets embarrassed easily. We loved the Roaring Forks, but they did not have the Minnie Mouse ice cream sandwichs, which is my favorite. Overall we really loved the Lodge. We stayed at the Animal Kingdom lodge two years ago. If we get to come back, I think I would like to stay somewhere else, just to get to see other places. The lodge cast members were nice and helpful. I was like being at home. The pool and the grounds were very nice, we only got one afternoon at the pool, but it was great. I read the reviews before my trip and it really helped me, oh yeah take some plastic spoons with you in case you bring back a dessert to your room. Hope my review helps someone. We love Disney World.

We were fortunate enough to stay here at a Disney Deluxe Resort for my boys' 7th birthday. It is on the "low end" of the deluxe resorts. You may take a water taxi to the Magic Kingdom, which is quite convenient, however all other places require bus transportation.
The pool area has a small slide. The geyser is interesting, and it "erupts" every hour. The smaller pool area is quiet and it had 4 jet springs of water for a spa-like feel. The resort has a nightly campfire for the kids with marshmallows. The Electrical Water Pageant can be seen nightly on the beach at 9:35PM. The resort also shows nightly Disney movies on the beach.
There are many other activities, which may be experienced at cost.
The rooms were well appointed with bunk beds for the boys, and each had a small light. The bathroom is small, however the double sinks are outside of the shower/toilet area. There is a small table and chairs with an adjustable light. We also had a porch area on the first floor.
A table service restaurant Whispering Canyon Cafe was fun as we had to yell "We need ketchup!", and when another table yelled it we had to take 9 bottles to their table. The boys rode "hobby horses" around. The food was good, and the fun was nice for families.
The quick service area is quite small Roaring Fork, but it serve its purpose with salads, sandwiches, pizza, and snacks.
We did not experience Artist Pointe which is a signature dining experience.
Overall, we enjoyed the comforts of "home".

Room Tip: Request a bunk bed room for the children. Request a room near the main themed pool area.

Ages: 25 - 65 years old

We have travelled to Disney 7 times over the years and 6 of those times we stayed on the Disney property. This was the first time we stayed at the Wilderness Lodge and it was great!

Hotel Room: We had two rooms located next door to each other and they overlooked the maintenance parking area...and we had no problems with noise. It was actually nice to have no one that could see into the room at night it we had the drapes open and we could see the Magic Kingdom fireworks in the evening over the trees!! The room was spotless and the decor was cozy!! Both rooms had 2 double beds and the rooms were a perfect size...and the bathroom had double sinks! You also get a coffee maker and fridge which was super!

Pool: We used the pool once since we spent everyday in a park. It was very nice, a good size and the water slide looked like fun!!

Hotel: The front desk staff were very good!! We were able to check in when we arrived at 10am and got our rooms immediately. The hotel is large and beautiful and the property is very nice as well!! I loved the lodge feeling!! The gift shop had everything you would need...we visited almost everyday to look around and to pick up water for the next day!!

Bus and Boat: The two modes of transportation from the Lodge are bus and boat. We never waited longer than 10 minutes for either of them. The boat was really nice to use to get and forth from the Magic Kingdom and we also used it to get to the monorail!!

Dining Plan: THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER!!!! Your room key is also your park pass and dining plan card - which made everything very easy. We had a quick service meal, a table service meal and 1 snack per day and based on the cost of food in the parks you will save money in the long run if you get the plan. All of the restaurants (both quick service and table service) we ate at were fantastic!!! We all agreed that we will book the plan again next time we return!!

Table Service Restaurants we ate at:
Luau at the Polynesian Hotel: the show was a lot of fun and the food was delicious!! :)Crystal Palace at Magic Kingdom: Buffet - ok food! Good for kids, its a character dinner.
Tony's Town Square: great menu - great food!
Le Cellier at Epcot: excellent menu - excellent food!!!
Coral Reef at Epcot: great menu - great food!!
Boatwrights at Port Orleans Resort: good menu - good food!

Disney Magical Express: This is the service that takes you to and from the airport. This was very convenient to have...you don't have to worry about getting a cab or renting a car to get you to the hotel.

We had a great time at this hotel and would stay here again!!

Room Tip: Call the hotel or your travel provider close to your travel date to confirm your requests.
