“Terrific Stay at Wilderness Lodge”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 April 2013

We recently stayed at wilderness lodge ( at the start of March) - and it was absolutely wonderful. The pictures really do not do this place justice. It's hard to not say 'wow' when first walking into the lobby. It's absolutely gorgeous , and extremely large. There are tons of small nooks to explore around the lobby and the hotel -and places to sit and relax everywhere you turn. Seriously the attention to detail in the design of this place is extremely impressive.

The staff was extremely friendly and the rooms/public spaces were ridiculously clean. The pools were very nice as well. My four year old loved the hidden springs pool, bubbles from the bottom are a very nice touch.

For transportation - it looks like there are mixed reviews on the ferry. For the most part it was terrific , relaxing and quick. However our very last trip back from the park was ridiculously slow - and stopped and the campground first. If we had a trip like that earlier it would have turned us off right away. I am hoping that was just a fluke because all the other trips were fantastic.

As for the busses - I am not a fan at all , and try to avoid them at all costs. I am on vacation - I don't want to feel like I am on my way to work. I think there is a lot Disney can do to improve these, starting with at least an app to tell you where the bus is and when its coming ( like NY waterway) - but at lot of other people have already gotten into this so I won't.

Anyway - I really don't want to end on a bad note - because this place was beautiful , clean , and terrific. It is a great place to relax and escape from the craziness of the parks, and although the transportation could use some improvement , I think it's well worth the extra few mins travel time enjoy this beautiful resort. We absolutely plan on returning!

I have stayed at many Disney resorts but The Wilderness Lodge is our home away from home. From check-in to check-out...it's all great. The hotel itself is beautiful and they recently refurbished the rooms...very nice! The pool area is gorgeous and there is also a sandy beach since the Lodge is situated on Bay Lake. (You cannot swim in any of Disney's lakes). There is also boat service to Fort Wilderness, The Contemporary Resort and
the Magic Kingdom, which is so nice since riding the buses can get tiring. In the evening, around 9:30ish, make your way down to the beach area...they have the electric water parade right on the shores of the Lodge or if you have a room high enough and on the back of the Lodge, you can see the parade from your room! (That's nice if you're getting the children ready for bed).
The Lodge has a counter service area that serves burgers, chicken, pizza, salads and deli style sandwiches and all types of beverages but buy the refillable mugs...a lot of people think they are expensive but if you do your math, they are REALLY worth it!! The Lodge also has two other restaurants, one that is family oriented (ask for catsup) and another that is more pricey but good!!
If you have a chance to go around the Christmas holidays, you have to do it...they decorate the Lodge so beautifully!! Don't ever pass up this resort...it's the BEST DISNEY RESORT EVER!!!

This is a fabulous place. Ferry boat, cruise boat, and buses to WDW parks. Ferry is great.

BEST thing is the rooms with bunk beds for the kids. YES, regardless of their age, [mine are teenagers] they will fight over who gets the top bunk! Queen bed for the parents. I do not know why all hotels do not have similar family rooms. Solves the problem of how to sleep when you have a boy and girl child!

Also buy the unlimited soda mugs for everyone. Free refills of coffee, soda, tea, etc.

Even better is the meal plans, particularly when they have the 'free food' promotions. We would bring cereal, buy the milk for it, to have for our breakfast. Get a banana as the free snack. Eat in the park for lunch as the free tray meal. Then use our table meal for dinner.

ABSOLUTE best place to eat dinner is the LIBERTY TREE TAVERN and their all you can eat family style dinner of turkey, London broil, Virginia ham, and all the trimmings! Other places are the buffet at the Contemporary Hotel, Fort Wilderness, Wilderness Lodge, and the Italian place in EPCOT.

Room Tip: If you have kids of any age always request a bunk bed room.

We stayed a week at Disney's Wilderness Lodge over Christmas and we had a great time. We stayed club level and I can't say enough good things about it. They had great offerings every night and the drinks were good. by the end of our stay the personnel at CL knew my kids name. We checked in and I heard a knock on the door and they were coming in to change the mattress on the beds. how cool is that? New mattresses for the rest of the week. Can't beat that! I think they were remodeling the entire building and I guess they started with CL. I have stayed at other resorts in Orlando and in Disney and I do have to say the rooms are in the smaller side. We had 1 queen bed and a set of bunk beds. We all had a great time and can't wait to go back to Disney.

Heavy Native American theme using mid and north plains tribes. Hidden lounge areas on certain floors with lit fireplaces provide secret seclusion to rest from the hustle of Disney. The openness of the Lodge makes it feel like you can read a paper or read or work in a semi-alone state. Use the pathways to get to your room if possible versus the hallway. It is much more calming. Due to it's centralized size some rooms may seem like a long walk through some twists and turns. Once walking the paths outside among, flowers, cool breezes off the lake, and bird song you won't want to walk the hallways to your room. Elevators are located close to all entrances from the outside. Disney cast members are dressed in a semi-western wagon/settler theme. The store is stocked with drinks, dairy, snacks, and clothing. The video game room is mid size and accessed from outside so video game noise does not disturb the main hotel area. A 1/2 mile dirt path follows the lake and is nice for a morning walk. It does connect to the main paved bike path for longer walks. The pool is smaller than some with a short slide. Disney cast members o a nice job getting kids involved in games. There is enough room to spread out and relax. Evening movies are a nice break on the lake beach. The Fireworks from Magic Kingdom are visible on the beach, a small gap between the boom sound and light is fun. The lake parade occurs in the late evening and lasts 20 minutes. The key noticeable difference is the feeling of seclusion and peace when arriving back at the Lodge, you do feel away from the hustle of the parks. Due to the Lodge's centralized main building style it feels smaller. Average time between parks on the bus ranged from 20 minutes to 50 minutes depending on stops and traffic. Though the bus was not uncomfortable. Taking the boat to Contemporary and taking the Monorail takes an additional 20 minutes. The boat ride from the Lodge to any place is very relaxing. Well worth it to take to magic kingdom.

This was our 5th family visit to a Disney resort hotel and our second visit to Wilderness Lodge. It is our favourite Disney Resort Hotel And we really enjoyed our 7 day visit. The check-in process was slow and confused and the self-service restaurant food was poor. However, everything else was exceptionally good. The location is fantastic for the Magic Kingdom and we love the boat trip. The Hotel staff were very helpful and friendly and the rooms very comfortable. We will return but I hope my 2 moans are addressed.

We just returned from a day stay at Disney's Wilderness Lodge and were thoroughly pleased with the staff's friendliness, cleanliness of rooms but most importantly the LODGE itself - gorgeous and very close to Magic Kingdom (MK).

Pools are great, ferry to MK a definite plus as we're shuttles on premises to all other Disney attractions.

We'd definitely consider a return trip!

Room Tip: If you have little ones ask for a room with the cool log cabin-like bunk beds. Our kids loved them!
