I have to agree with the reviewer who talked about the private event and how noisy it was; it was difficult to make your way to the boats to the parks because of the crowds, but I had to walk a mile to get to my room, which in this case was a blessing because I was out of earshot of the event. Portofino has great theming, the service is IMPECCABLE. The 'cast members' (I know, that's Disney) at this resort are unbelievably attentive and helpful. The pool was great. One of the things I love about Universal Hotels is that they have servers that will bring you food and drinks at the pool, you don't have to leave your chaise lounge : ) And they always have huge pitchers of ice water with lemon available to ensure guests stay hydrated. Their bath towels are huge, their chaise lounges are padded. If you are so inclined, and don't want to wait for a water taxi, you can walk to the theme parks, or pay a 'donation' and have a bicycle-pulled Rickshaw take you to the parks or the hotels.
That being said, I think I preferred Royal Pacific, probably because I think that is better suited to families. Portofino is probably better for couples, and maybe for business. And Portofino is just a tad too big for my liking, it is easy to get lost.More
