Our family of 4 adults stayed again at the Portofino as usual when we are visiting Universal Studio.

Stayed for 3 nights in a room with 2 queen beds and a decent size bathroom. Room was clean with the usual amenities. However, the room and hallways could use some refreshing.

Check in was busy, but staff were friendly and helpful.

Positives about the property:
- upper scale property
- good selection of restaurants on the property
- able to have a buffet breakfast or a smaller breakfast with bakery goods
- several pools on site
- water shuttle to Universal
- biggest advantage - getting express pass for many of the Universal Studio rides and attractions; plus early entry to see the Harry Potter parks

Cons:
- a bit of a walk to Universal Studio, especially in hot weather. The water taxi service comes every 15 minutes if you don't want to walk
- you have to get separate tickets / passes from different people to get entry into the park and to get the express pass - why can't they do everything electronically on a bracelet like Disney's Magic Band?

Room Tip: Rooms at the extreme ends of the two wings can be quite far from the hotel lobby. Inquire about the...

My husband had a conference for work at this hotel and our son and I decided to travel with him for the week. We went down there the second week of October in 2013. The room was beautiful, clean and service was great. My son and I did room service one morning and it was a bit pricey but it was a one time thing. They have several restaurants on the grounds of the hotel and 2 pools as well. They also have a shopping area inside with keepsakes. They have water taxi's to take you to and from City Walk which is also where Universal Studios and Adventure Islands are. You can purchase all your tickets at the hotel and you get discounts for some things. We have no complaints at all and hope to visit again some time.

Another trip to Orlando, this time for 6 nights.
After staying at the Ritz Carlton at the Grande lakes for the past 2 visits, this Hotel had a lot to live up to.
I read with interest many reviews for Hard Rock and Portofino and in the end decided on this property.

With so many mixed reports I was actually concerned as to what we would find when we arrived, but wanted the convenience of location and the Express passes.

On arrival we were greeted warmly and efficiently and went off to our room. Located on the East wing a 'Double Queen room' overlooking the bay and Universal studios in the distance.

The room itself was large, decorated nicely and well appointed.
We never once heard any noise at night and slept silently throughout out stay. The bathroom was also of a good size and had products that reminded me of the 'Bliss' range.

The only comment I would make about the room was the very average housekeeping. The room was always serviced daily, by 3pm, but on several occasions the room was not hoovered? As it was such a nice room I can't say it bothered me too much, but just not what you would expect. More on cleaning standards later....

The location itself is truly worth staying on site for. The little boat trip along in the morning sun, or a stroll along the path at the end of a day, or if your too tired hop on a bike ( Not free!- up to you how much you tip them), all making easy access to the parks.
Of course the express passes are worth there weight in gold, especially if you are there for a good few days. We never waited more than 15 mins for any ride and it meant we could come and go at anytime. You can purchase tickets on site, easy to do and very helpful staff at desk. Express passes you print from your room key in the lobby, again quick and easy.

Back to the Hotel itself-

For me personally the Italian theme just didn't work and I think lends to the overall feeling that the Hotel looks maybe a little run down in corridors etc..the choice of colours and schemes clash a little.
Set in a bay and not so extensive to walk around if you understand the layout of the property before you book. There are benefits of the larger grounds, choice of 3 pools- visited two, the main pool, but our favourite had to be the 'Hill side' pool that often we had completely to ourselves! No food or drink available there, but perfect for a quiet dip in the pool and sunbathe! Again, both pools could have been better maintained, just not nice seeing the same plaster in the same spot day after day...

Plenty of food choices both on site and at City walk.
Used room service and was pleased with the food and communication regarding arrival time. Ate in the deli a few times at breakfast, and one evening meal, very handy, and worth noting that pizza's can be taken back to your room too- great if you've had a long day! Starbucks opening soon...

The Hotel it's worth noting especially if you are not familiar with the area is very close to good shopping mall's, easy to reach in a car, both Mall at Millenia and Premium outlets.

So, would I stay again? - yes, but I would contact the Hotel before to be specific on room type and view.
The Hotel is clearly very busy all the time and you should note that most guests check out at 11 and check in at 4pm,best avoid reception at this time!

Worthy of 4 sparkling diamonds, but needs to improve it's standards of cleaning in some areas. Go if you want to stay on sight and are willing to overlook a few minor issues.

Always a pleasure to stay here when we visit Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. So much to do at hotel to get away from the crowds at the park. Favorite time of year is Christmas time, stunning.

We booked a bayview room, of course we were given a "very partial bay view with an excellent view of the tree" They moved us to another building on the opposite side which still sucked. Upon check in room keys machine was not working we could not do our express pass and had to wait for some to open our room. This went on for over 3 hours. When we were given our key there was a long line for three machine only 1 worked. We spoke to the manager all he did was apologize and did not offer any solution, you could not get him or anyone on the phone. To me this Manager was very unprofessional. DENNIS-You lost us as a guest.

Bathroom had mold and tub was left dirty. Room wasn't ready at check in time and had to make the check in line three times before I got final set of room keys. Loud clicking noise all night in bathroom, complained and was told hotel was booked and that they couldn't move us.
