“Polynesian Paradise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 November 2013

OK, OK, second time here within several years. Been to Universal Park three times, but for hubby and me, no need. The park is fun and all, but been there, done that.
Wanna know what's really cool? We will be here five nights, never get off the hotel properties, and City Walk, and still won't see it all.
Let's start here at Pacific Royal. We've been to Mexico and Caribbean, both were to die for, but this is just as fun and no passport needed.
When you drive up to the entrance you are in tropical paradise. Palm trees, exotic plants galore!
In the lobby the elephant fountains, the sunlight, the wall murals, the sunny help with Alohas...all the stress melts away.
We got an average room, very nice, wonderful beds, and more exotic plants and water to view from our window.
There's a beach with a plane...sort of a Gilligan's Island theme. We love sitting there and watching the sunset.
The pool, hot tub, outdoor bar are Oh so nice. I love the pool, and can imagine how much our grand kids would love it. It looks like a big boat. The food is great here or City Walk, Hard Rock, or Portofino Hotel.
The walk from here to City Walk is tropical, romantic, and has a very private feel. Or you can take the free water taxis (I would guess they show up every 15 min).
We love taking the water taxis to Portofino Hotel. Instantly you are in Italy. Completely relaxing.
City Walk is a shopper and foodie's dream. There is an Emeril's here and in City Walk. Tomorrow we are going to see a movie and Blue Man Group.
I guess I could go on and on. I'll leave you with this...if you are a couple just needing to chill with no itinerary, this is the place. I know I sound fake or like a commercial, but this vacation is a great fit for us. We can choose a party feel, or solitude in a moment, depending on our mood.
My one and only complaint has been a very slow wifi, which they have apologized for.
Wasn't a problem last time, I'm hoping it was a glitch.
We will probably stay at one of the other resort hotels next time just to mix it up. But we will be visiting here a lot for sure.

Room Tip: I like the fact that they have a laundromat that uses credit cards. We prefer to pack less and wash...

We've stayed onsite at Universal Studios before, but this was our first time at Royal Pacific. We were checked in quickly and into our room in no time. The standard rooms are the smallest of the 3 onsite hotels, but were fine for just the 2 of us. The whole property is so lush and really has a tropical feel to it. The room was comfortable but the walls seemed a bit thin and heard lots of noises from other rooms. Another down side was the wifi. It was $9.99 a day (I received it for free being a You First member). It was so horribly slow that most of the time, it was unusable. If I had to pay for it, I would have been upset. Other than that, all positive. The onsite restraurants were very good. We ate at Jake's, Orchid Court Sushi Bar, Emeril's Tchoup Chop. Enjoyed the pool one day during our visit. It's a lagoon style pool with lots of activities for the kids. A nice pool-side bar with drinks and food. Plenty of lounge chairs. They have a continental breakfast each morning which was convenient to just grab something and get out to the parks. Or linger at the sit down breakfast served in the Island Diningroom. We did not eat there, but the menu looked good. The location of the hotel was excellent. Just a short walk to CIty Walk and the parks. If the water taxi was there, we would hop on that, but the walk was so easy, we often did walk.

Overall, a very nice, clean hotel with a lot of amenities and a nice way to relax after a busy day at the parks.

Room Tip: Our room was in Tower 1 (there are 3 towers). I found it to be in a good, central location with eas...

For the amount of money you pay for a traditional room at this place, you'd think that certain privileges would be included. Parking, use of the fitness center, etc. Well, think again! Because it's Orlando and apparently the magic of seeing your money fly out the window as Mickey snickers in the background is "worth the memories," people put up with the horrendous price-gouging. This place charges fifteen bucks a drink. Want a bottle of water? Fork over seven dollars. I will commend them for at least offering free water at the pool, but I'm certain it's only because they are just trying to avoid a lawsuit from someone passing out from dehydration and cracking his skull.

It seems I've segued into a pool discussion. I will say that the shape and ambiance of the pool is appealing. Once you get down there, though, it's another story. Debris all over the place in the water, ducks everywhere. People thought it was cute when the ducks swam in the water, which I don't get. If you looked down as you walked around the pool area, you saw pile after pile of duck poop mixed with pool water, getting dragged all over the place by barefoot patrons. Absolutely gross.

I have been spoiled by staying in pristine five-star hotels for the past few years, so perhaps my expectations are high, but they SHOULD be high when you're paying three hundred dollars per night, paying to park your car on their lot, and dropping at least $300 per day on food and drink. I do have a few positive comments regarding the helpfulness of the concierge and car service, though. The staff was great and very helpful. Printing boarding passes at concierge couldn't have been more easy or convenient. Regardless, I will never go back and I don't recommend this hotel.

Stayed here during our visit to Universal Studios and Pleasure Island. Great location, Islands of Adventure and City Walk just 7-8 mins walk away, Universal Studios around 15 mins walk. Staff were friendly and efficient. The food was good but nothing special, we ate at both Jake's and the Sushi bar. I'd choose this over Hard Rock Hotel, where we have stayed before, on cost and ambience.

My family has stayed numerous time at the Portofino but this was our first time at the Royal Pacific. We went the week after school started so it was very quiet at the hotel. The parks still had a good volume of people but the ability to always go to the front of the line eliminated any wait times.

The rooms are a bit smaller than the Portofino but on the same level of elegance. We stayed on the Club floor, which is definitely worth every penny. All of the refreshments and snacks are top notch. It's definitely worth a try if you've never done it.

The restaurants are all wonderful, with Emeril's polynesian place by far the best. We will definitely be returning!

One of the best benefits of the RP is that is is much closer to the parks that the Portofino. It's just a 5 minute walk to CityWalk.

The Royal Pacific has a nice lobby, grounds, a great pool with a splash zone play area, plus movies at night, and fun things to do like pool and ping-pong tables. The staff was friendly, and the rooms were average. We had a nice stay, and really appreciated the perk of having a fast-pass for Universal through the hotel. We did not wait more than 8 minutes for any ride, so we were able to experience everything we wanted to at the theme park. Plus, the ferry to the park was very convenient.

If it were not for the perk of the fast-pass however, we would not likely stay here again unless we were very wealthy and did not care about money. We were not happy that everything was an extra charge. $18 for parking! A charge for Wi-Fi? A fee to use the gym? These simple things come standard with other hotels. Forget about eating there, the cheapest thing we saw was about $18.00. I felt as though we were nickel and dimed.

Enjoyed our stay immensely. Pluses: Great place for a convention (which we attended). Rooms had nice, roomy bathrooms, high-end toiletries, room safe, coffee machines, new TV, snuggly beds and pillows, beautiful grounds, free water-taxi to other resort areas, high-end restaurants on the premises. Opportunities: Maid service repeatedly left bedding on the floor, outdoor poolside restaurant wasn't prepared for onslaught of conventioneers visiting at lunch time which caused slow service, gym costs $10/day. We had Tower 1, top floor and it was absolutely lovely view of the lilly-padded gardens below.

Room Tip: Tower 1, 7th floor can't be beat.
