“Best of the Best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 June 2011

We stayed for 1 week at the Hard Rock from 28 May - 5 June. Every moment of our holiday was absolutely faultless. Although most reviews are positive, I read some of the negative reviews on Trip Advisor before booking this hotel and really can't understand how some people can be so picky. We stayed at club level which I would recommend we had a brilliant view of Universal Studio's from our room window, our room was clean and the hotel was immaculate and provides all the facilities you need. Food in the restaurants was excellent especially, 'The Kitchen'.
The walk to Universal Studio's was about 5 mins and the express tickets and early (1 hour) prior access to the parks is priceless (especially as the queue for Harry Potter can get quite long). With only 1 week we were able to do City Walk, Universal Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios in 3.5 days which left us 2.5 days to go to Seaworld, Aquatica and shopping. This was because our express tickets meant our queuing time for the rides and shows was never more than 5 minutes (this may differ in peak period).
Hotel staff were always friendly and extremely helpful - always willing to go that extra bit to provide more help than you need and always on hand to make recommendations for the best places to go and how to get there. I WILL definitely be going back here!

Room Tip: Go for Club level on the 7th floor

We've stayed in Disney hotels maybe 5 times -this was our first trip to Universal.

We had a 6:00 am flight and we arrived in Orlando at 9:00 am. We got to the Hard Rock Hotel around 10:30 am. We checked in and received our Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure and City Walk passes. We were told that we would receive a phone call/text when our room was ready. Typical check in time is 4:00 pm -however, we read in the hotel policies that if a room is available prior to 4:00 they will assign it to you. We gave our luggage to the hotel to hold until the room was ready then we walked over to Universal Studios. 4:00 came and we still hadn't receved a call or text telling us that our room was ready. By now we had been up since 3:00 am -we were tired and hot (it was 48 degrees when we left home so, we weren't exactly dressed for 90 degree Florida weather) and just wanted to get into our room to freshen up -change clothes and relax a little. We went back to the front desk and pretty much pleaded for a room. We were finally assigned a room on the 1st floor. We went to retrieve our luggage and were told that the hotel staff would deliver it in about an hour. We didn't want to wait another minute to freshen up and change into "Florida" clothes so, we said that we'd take our own luggage to our room.... they didn't seem pleased with that -but we weren't really pleased either so, we insisted that we'd take it ourselves. If we'd waited for them that would've been at least another hour that we had to wait to change and what good was getting into the room without any of our stuff?? Getting into the room was our biggest complaint -there had to be a room somewhere in that hotel that was available before 4:00. This is one reason why I gave them 3 stars. Other than the room issue -the staff was pleasant -actually everyone in the hotel seemed nice. We ate at 'The Kitchen' a few times -everyone seemed nice and friendly and the food was pretty good.
The pool was always crowded but there was plenty of poolside chairs available and room for more people without seeming over crowded. If you exited through a gate near the back of the pool and followed a path City Walk and the 2 theme parks were a short 10-15 minute walk away -this is a big bonus... no waiting for buses! Bicycle taxies were available at both ends of the path -these people work for tips only so, tip good if you ever use them. It was nice to get a ride back from the parks at the end of the day.
There isn't a fridge available in the room (big thumbs down -another reason for the 3 stars) they do have a locked (the key is available at the front desk) mini bar with unreal prices -like $7.00 for a bottle of water. We ended buying water at the hotel store and filling up our ice bucket every night and using it like a cooler to keep the water cold in case we were thirsty in the middle of the night. A regular empty fridge for our use at no charge (like they have in the Disney hotels) would have been great. We read that they will switch the mini bar out for a regular fridge for a fee of $25 then charge $15 p/day on top of that to keep the fridge. There is also a small safe available for a p/day fee -again Disney gives you use of the same exact safe at no charge.
The hotel and our room were neat and clean. Even though we were out of the room for most of every day no one showed up to clean our room or give us fresh towels. By the 3rd day we had to call down to the front desk and ask for fresh towels and to have our trash emptied. They were apologetic and sent someone right up.
Would we stay here again...??? Maybe -but, we think that we like the way Disney runs their hotels better. We also liked how Disney gives you one card for your room key, park passes, etc -1 card covers everything. At Universal we had a room key/park express combo pass card, City Walk pass card and Universal/Islands of Adventure pass card. Having 1 card for everything is a lot better all around. If you want to stay here (or any other Universal Studios hotel) just make sure you know what's included and what's not included ahead of time so there are no surprises -otherwise just expect to pay extra for everything and you'll be good.

We stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel at Universal because we just had to see "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter." We were there over the NJ Teacher's convention weekend so it was pretty crowded. Fortunately we stayed on a club floor so that was a great bonus that the kids loved. We had free breakfast, cookies and milk every afternoon, and happy hour every evening, between 5 and 7pm, I believe. Then at around 9:30 there was hot cocoa or chocolate milk, coffee, tea, etc... and snacks again. It was a nice touch.
The hotel was great, we could walk everywhere we wanted to go. The parks were clean and beautiful, the citiwalk area was really cool. We even saw a movie in their huge theater at Citiwalk, and it was so clean and large, we LOVED it! Hotel Restaurants were OK but definitely try some of the awesome places at Citiwalk, like Margaritaville or Bubba Gump's.
I highly recommend this hotel, if you can upgrade to club, go for it!!!

We have stayed at the Hard Rock one other time. Our room had a musty oder to it and wasn't exactly what I was expecting for $250.00 night. The help either didn't speak English very well or were simply just rude. Although, the front desk attendant at checkout was extremely pleasant and expeditious. There was a large group staying on the Club Level and it seemed they were more interested in keeping that party content than making the "ordinary" visitors stay totally enjoyable.

I am meeting a high school friend of 20 years here for us to spend a couple days with each other and our kids. I am hoping the hotel has really picked up it's game. I have been ill for two years and am this is the first real trip I have taken since, I am really looking forward to an enjoyable couple days at Universal and hope the Hard Rock adds to the trip and does disappoint again.

From check in to check out, the staff at the Hard Rock hotel rocked! It was my husband and son's birthdays during our stay, and in our room they left a huge piece of birthday cake for each of them. They each got cards and hard rock birthday pins. This was a huge hit with our 9 year old son.

Our room was spacious and clean. The toiletries were very nice, smelled good. The beds were comfortable with lots of pillows. Our room overlooked the pool and initially we were worried that it would be loud. It wasn't. Our kids had fun swimming during breaks from Universal Studios.

The day after we checked out, we realized we had left two bathing suits and a swim cover up in on room. Despite thinking it would be futile, I called the hotel to see if our belongings were found and turned in. They promised to check and call me back. Within minutes, I had a return phone call and they had our swim gear! My husband drove back and picked them up. What great service!

I would definitely tell a friend to stay here if they were visiting the Orlando area.

We stayed in a deluxe room with two queens. It was a large room with a nice view of the pool area and an additional sleeper sofa. My children hate sharing a bed so the sleeper sofa worked out great for us. The furnishings were modern, and the room was mostly clean. Some dust left on the headboard that grossed me out a bit but beyond that pretty spotless. We ate at all the restaurants in the hotel and liked them all. My children enjoyed the pool. We all liked the beautifully landscaped and shaded walk to the theme parks from this hotel. We never even used the boats because the walk seemed faster to us.

Room Tip: Ask for a room above the third floor, lobby floor
