“Wonderful start to honeymoon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 August 2010

We booked into the hard rock hotel through expedia. (got 10% quidco and a 15% discount). I contacted the hotel prior to arrival to order the KISS package as we were on our honeymoon. Upon arrival the front desk congratulated us on our honeymoon and upgraded us from a standard pool view to a club 7 room. This was fantastic as we got a free continental breakfast every morning and free soft drinks throughout the day. The staff were always extremely friendly. The added bonus of express passes meant we waited a maximum of 10 minutes for express pass rides. We also went into islands of adventure an hour early and so only queued for 20 mins for the Harry potter ride. overall a wonderful first week of our honeymoon.

This hotel was so cool and comfortable. It combines a first class hotel experience with a laid back rock-n-roll theme. Some of the museum-like displays around the hotel are worth just wandering around to view. We also loved how close it is to the parks. If we didn’t want to take the 5 minute walk, there’s a water taxi that drops you off right in the city walk area. We bought our Islands of Adventure tickets right in the lobby and got in an hour early. (Beware! to beat the crowds at Harry Potter, you really need to take advantage of this.) Using our hotel key as a fast pass, we were able to get in all of our rides and have an entire afternoon to relax by the pool. The pool is huge and plays great music both above and below the surface of the water. We recommend eating at the poolside Beach Club. Our lunches there were fantastic! They also do a great job waiting on you poolside. We loved Emack and Bolio’s for ice cream in the afternoon and coffee and bagels in the morning. It is located right on the pool level of the hotel. Each night, we popped into the Velvet Bar (located just off the main lobby) for happy hour before dinner and loved their frozen margaritas. The only down side to our stay was the fitness club. They charged $10 for a visit, the equipment was old and the most of the treadmills were broken. Overall, this is a great hotel and worth the price!

Booked the hotel exclusively because of its location, within walking distance of the Universal Parks. We have stayed at Loews properties before and been extremely underwhelmed, so our expectations were not high.

That said, the ambiance and decor at the hotel was excellent. The room was perfectly comfortable for our needs, and (as mentioned before) the location can not be beat. The pool was terrific. The restaurants/amenities were some of our favorite national chains but priced very high. This is not a value vacation.

In general the "other" parks in Orlando are a lot more fun, but I definitely thought that this hotel itself was better than their hotels.

We booked to stay at the Hard Rock for 14 nights nights in August but unfortunately there was a problem with our room on arrival and we were sent to the local Treetops (2 adults 3 kids, 9, 14 and 15). Compensation for this inconvenience was excellent, we were upgraded to a room with a pool view and could see Universal in the distance. We had free breakfast for 2 days in the Kitchen and a basket of fruit delivered to the room. Kids loved the hotels closeness to the parks and jumping the queues especially in the August heat so much so that they refused to go to Disney but agreed to Epcot, Sea World and NASA. The Blue Man show was excellent, well worth seeing. This was our first trip to the USA but we'll definitely be returning to Orlando and the Hard Rock Hotel!

The trip started off great at check-in with Amy. She could not have been more friendlier and took care of all our needs. We arrived early in the morning on the Auto Train and headed to the pool since our room was not ready. Amy contacted me at 2:30 and met me to provide me the keys to our room. Plenty of room and having two sinks came in handy.
Of course staying on Universal Properties is the big key. The longest we had to wait for any ride was 5 minutes plus on-site property guest can get into the park a lot earlier. Our first day we headed to Islands of Adventures and the gate opened at 7:30 and we went straight to Harry Potter and got on the ride without any wait.
Check this place out. You will be very happy!

Issue #1:Requested a club level room on floor 7. Even called to verify request, was told to arrive early so to improve chances of meeting request. Arrived at 1pm to find out that prior night all rooms were booked and would continue to be booked. Hotel knew this when I called to verify but didn't tell me.

Issue #2: Room rates near $400/night and we still have to pay $15 parking + TAX? Even on club level rooms? Not good.

Issue #3: Club concierge lounge is very small (occupancy of only about 60, I counted). Plastic chairs, small food offerings, and waiters looking for tips. Paid enough, not looking to tip more.

Issue #4: Club level rooms are small. Traveling with family meant luggage absolutely everywhere.

Issue #5: Vibe of reception area was lacking. I was expecting more high energy, activity, etc in main lobby, didn't feel it.

Issue #6: How about printing out a bill and sliding it under door the night before? I didn't receive one and needed to ask at front desk.

All in all, poor value for the dollar. Stayed at Portofino (club level) last year and enjoyed it MUCH more. Portofino lounge is much larger, better food, better atmosphere.

We've been going here yearly for decades. Rooms are very clean. Sheets/towels
are always crisp and very fresh. Love the location close to Universal. Can walk back
to the hotel within 10 minutes from anywhere in the park.
We love the Palm Restaurant. The Kitchen has really good food with good prices.

Always something going on at the hotel but we were still able to go to sleep in quiet well
before midnight.
