“Wonderful resort”

This resort is a luxurious place to stay, villas wrap round the well groomed golf course and lots of small lakes with water features, hire boats and get boat to downtown Disney. Olivia's restaurant serves great food, there's also a bar and a quick service take away, main pool is lovely, communal games room, bike hire and great walks around the resort, villas are very spacious and exceptionally clean.

We visited Old Key West in October/November 2013, our 3rd stay in a Disney hotel, the 1st time at this particular hotel.

From the moment we stepped off the Magical Express we fell in love with this beautiful resort. I had asked for a top floor apartment in a building close to Hospitality House ( as we were only hiring a car for 7 days out of 21) and we had the perfect spot at Building 64, top floor. Not all buildings in OKW have elevators, but this particular block does. We had unoverlooked views of the water and golf course.

It's a 3 minute walk from this block to Reception/Hospitality House/ Main bus stop so perfect for those with no car. It's a very spread out resort, as you will see if you take a ride around the resort on the buses that take you to the Parks.

The style of OKW is a tropical paradise, and very much reminded me of Sandals St Lucia where I got married..very laid back, palm trees, beautiful white washed buildings, and stunning views of the golf course and waterways.

We opted for a one bedroomed villa for the 4 of us (2 adults, 1 teen, 1 child) and we were not disappointed. There was a huge living area that comprised of a 3 seater sofa bed, a 2 seater sofa, and a large sofa chair. A full size dining table, and a full size kitchen that had every gadget you need including coffee machine as well as coffee, tea etc. A centre console housed a large tv and dvd player ( dvds available for free just ask at the Community Hall) The separate utility room with large washer and tumble drier was an absolute godsend, and washing powder was always there in plentiful supply from 'Mousekeeping'
The main bedroom was huge, with a superking sized bed - so comfy! Bathroom with a large jacuzzi bath, as well as another separate shower room with sink meant we could all be getting ready on a morning without getting under each other's feet.

There was plenty of cupboard and drawer space throughout, although I did take extra hangers (just squeeze them in your case and leave them there when you leave)

My children slept in the chair bed and the sofa bed (they don't like sharing a bed as one is a fidgety sleeper) and we sometimes just left the beds as they were, it didnt take up a lot of room. Mousekeeping would just make the beds up as they were, so it wasnt a problem to leave them out.

We had a large balcony with table and chairs, and it was lovely to sit out first thing with a coffee and watch the golfers in the distance.

Although the one bedroomed villa has a locked adjoining door to the next (studio) apartment, this wasnt an issue at all. There was only one night we heard our neighbours as they were having a Halloween celebration, but it wasnt enough to spoil anything, and I am a VERY light sleeper..

There are 4 pools at OKW, but we only used the main one. which the kids loved. There is actually a sauna in the lighthouse, which some people dont realise. They show movies on a huge screen that can be watched from the pool...Don't miss the nightly camp fire where you can toast marshmallows on a stick and make Smores!
My kids loved the Community Hall where for a few dollars they can design a pillowcase ( there are lots of Disney templates to help them outline their fave characters which they then colour in) and they get to keep, a nice souvenir. There is also pool, table football, constant Disney movies, plenty of other things to keep the kids occupied.

The main restaurant, Olivias, became a firm favourite of ours, so much so that we cancelled reservations at other restaurants to eat there again. Food was fresh, hot, and I had one of the nicest steaks there I have ever tasted - it even beat California Grill.

For a snack there is 'Goods to Go' which is a walk up counter service that is open early until late, serving the usual quick service meals...we used it for breakfast several times, and the odd snack. Its perfectly adequate, though they need to do something about the drinks station as it was always plagued with wasps when we tried to top up our drinks mugs.

Disney buses...on the whole these were great, though we did see one incident where there was a problem and no Magic Kingdom bus came for about 45 minutes, resulting in people getting very irate that had dinner reservations...we were there 3 weeks though and I guess there will always be the odd hiccup. The Disney buses are FREEZING. Seriously there is no need to have the air con as cold as they have it...no matter how hot it is outside, you need to take a hoodie just for the buses..its like sitting in the fridge for 20 minutes.

Water taxis..what a lovely relaxed way to travel to Downtown Disney..very chilled, we loved it.

There is a shop opposite Reception that is not too expensive and has all you need in the way of bread, cereal, fruit, drinks, snacks and groceries..as well as gifts and clothing.

I absolutely LOVED Old Key West and hope one day to return. It's laid back, beautiful styling without being 'in your face Disney, although there are plenty of touches to remind you that you are in the Land Of Mouse if you look for them ( Hidden Mickeys!)

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor to get a bright view above the palm trees and lush foliage. The resort is hug...

This turned out to be the perfect place for our family birthday celebration. We were four families, 8 adults, 4 children and an infant. The facilities had something for everybody, although the main swimming pool was most used by the children.

The rooms are bigger and just as convenient to anything at Disney. The pools are second to none. I love Old Key West! It provides all of the privacy of a desired Disney vacation along with all of the room a family might need. The pools are awesome for the off days.

I have stayed at 3 resorts so far. I want to stay at Old Key West all the time. Rooms are so much bigger than the other resorts I have stayed at. All of my family that stay with me agree, this is the best resort if you have a large family get together. You do not feel crowded when you have a big group the rooms are spacious and well kept up. OKW was refurbished last year. I was very disappointed in the Animal Kingdom and Saratoga Springs, because the 2 bedroom condos are so small. All of my family felt squeezed in, in these 2 resorts. I know that the latter resorts have smaller rooms because they wanted have more rooms for the DVC. I will always want to stay at OKW over any other DVC Resort.

I stayed in a two bedroom suite with four other family members in December. The suite was large and had a nice outdoor patio, which was fairly private. The suite was a good value for the price. However, our family found the check-in process to be very long and difficult. The man checking us in was not well informed about the property and took 30 minutes to find, deliver and register our magic bands. He could not explain the most basic information about how to use them- we later looked this up online. All and all we found the staff at Old Key West to be less than steller - no friendly Disney greetings which I had read about online, and a feeling that they were just going through the motions. The property itself was well maintained, although we would have enjoyed an additional dining option. I would stay there again in spite of these issues, if I was with a large family group.

Room Tip: Select a room near the end of the bus pickup route, so you dont need to wait too long to get there.

Stayed at OKW resort May 15 - 20, 4 adults and 3 children in a 2 bedroom villa. Acomodations were excellent, check in was easy. Service was very good. Down was the location of our villa, 5423 which was very, very far from the hospitality house, main pool and restaurant, and store - a 15 min. walk each way. However, we were across small street from a lovely smaller pool and playground. We were also at the end of the bus run for all the parks, often a long wait and trip.

Rooms were very clean, lots of towels, kitchen was well stocked, nice balcony.

Room Tip: Try to get a room closer to the main areas.
