Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress
Ranked #30 of 341 Hotels in Orlando
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 6 December 2012

"The Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress is excited to announce the completion of our $45 million dollar renovation."

The above quote is exactly what was quoted on my reservation...How exciting!...unfortunately this was not the case...

My lengthy hotel search landed on this one because of the promise of 2 waterslides, a childrens pool and 4 spas. I have a 3, 7 and 10 year old and this was our first visit to Orlando. When we checked in, the staff informed us that they had only one pool open. No waterslides, no children's pool. The only pool they had open was their "heated" pool which was in fact not heated. Half of this pool was closed down due to waterslides being (very noisily) constructed. There were construction vehicles driving on the sidewalks which made it very dirty and muddy.
The resort fee was still $24/day regardless of the construction.
Will never stay here again and will question staying at any hyatt's in the future due to the misinformation I was fed upon reserving my room.

This is an old, dated hotel. The front desk service was good. The restaurants are overpriced but serve passable food. Pool is nice but very cold and mostly under construction. Like most of Orlando there is no personal touch or feel here. Bathrooms are old and dated, no baths in single bed rooms, only in double bed rooms (same for the hilton we stayed at in Orlando).

Overall the stay was passable, but nothing about this compares to other Hyatts in similar price ranges.

Thank you for the comments regarding your recent stay. we are just wrapping up the lagoon pool renovation and our new water recreational area will ready to go by late February. i was surprised that you stated that the bathrooms were old and dated. all guestrooms were totally redesigned and brand new in 2010. New rain shower enclosures were added to all King rooms while new European-styled tubs and wing doors were placed in the double/double rooms. Hopefully, you will return again after March to experience us again.

I took my family here for an extended weekend. We were initially drawn here due to its location right outside of Disney. We checked in late, and the staff was able to get us moved into a great room. Upon check in, my wife and I were given champagne, and our daughter was given a bucket with sand toys. The rooms were great and updated. Bed was very comfortable and linens were great. We were even able to watch the fireworks from our balcony.

There were renovations going on, but we were unaffected by them. The amenities were great. Large pools and water slides were a nice escape from the bustle of the parks. They also had some water sports and other activities that we did not take advantage of. The hotel offers a handful of dining options, but they seemed to lack good options around lunch.

My family really enjoyed staying here and have recommended it to friends. They too have had great experiences.

Room Tip: Hotel is undergoing renovations! Request a room with a "usable" balcony overlooking the p...

This is a very nice hotel. I locked my price in from Priceline at a very low rate, so I am still way ahead of the game.

Resort fee is $24 a day. Self park is $12 a day Valet is $22 a day.

12-5-12 Construction...... They seem to have a beautiful pool, but it is closed. Glad I didnt have my kids with me. Lots of construction going on at the property so that is not a positive for my stay.

The grounds are very nice. It is a gated property. I was served a glass of champagne when I registered.... nice touch with the construction going on.

Room is very nice, no complaints.

All in all, very nice property.

Glad to read that you enjoyed our resort. Our resort fee is a great value if you are comparing what we offer vs our competition and their fees. There is much more to do and we feel it is better that having hourly fees as some resorts do. The pool and pool deck will be completed in the spring ready for the 2013 season. New water slide and rock wall, bar and grill as well as pop up water heads in the pool deck will add to the value that we already offer. We hope you will come back with the family to enjoy all that we have to offer.

Let me start with this... if you are staying here to go Disney World, you can actually save money by staying at a Disney moderate resort WITH a meal plan. A few times a year, Disney World resorts offers 25-35% off. Last year, we stayed the same number of days that we stayed here but only spent $2100 (including our flight AND food) at Disney. Here, thanks to the ridiculous mark-up on the food (Your $15 omelet does not come with any sides--add those for $5 a piece....and I hope you enjoy that $16 hamburger that is only average) and the fact that the hotel is kind of tucked up on a hill, so it can be hard to walk to things, and they don't allow any places to deliver past the front gate (which means you have to walk 1/4 mile in the dark if you want to get food delivered), we've spent way, way more. There are also hidden charges everywhere for all of the things that they list as complimentary on the website.

Plus, with Disney, shuttles run back and forth to resorts and parks every 30 minutes. We took the Hyatt Grand Cypress hotel shuttle to Universal at 9:15AM. The next pickup was 6:15PM...and if we wanted to take a taxi from there, it would've been $40. The concierge talked us into two day tickets--it's not even worth us going back another day if we'll be stuck there that long. The shuttle to the Disney is the same way, so we decided to save our Disney trip for when we're staying at a Disney hotel.

Bright spot: The shuttle to the outlets was good though--more pick-up options.

I'm chalking this up to the time of year, but there is a lot of construction going on. Lots of banging, things roped off, etc. We couldn't even get into the gym (once we finally found it)--pity, because it looked kind of nice.

For a business event... or even a wedding...or maybe a super short weekend trip, I think this hotel would be great. It's really pretty on the inside and out. The accommodations were nicely appointed, clean, etc (well, except for the bathroom, which has a sliding door that can't be locked and a shower that only has half a door, so the bathroom gets really wet). The people/service are really nice. I just couldn't wait to get home where I can get a bowl of cereal for less than $7 and actually use the gym.

I definitely won't be back.

Room Tip: Ask for a high room with a view or you will wind up listening to construction all day.

Stayed here for 6 nights until thanksgiving day - great location for the parks and downtown disney, there are also lots of breakfast restaurants near by.

The pool is under construction there is still one small heated open but for two of our days it wasn't available - for these days we were able to use the pool at the villas on the golf course a bus brings you over - 5 mins - must say the guy that looks after the pool at the villas gives 5 star service and is very friendly and welcoming others in the hotel could learn a thing from him.

Getting our room made up each day turned into an event - on our 2nd day we arrived back from disney at 5.30pm and the room was not made up we had to ring 3 times to get someone to come up - this wasn't a once off over the 6 nights 3 days the rooms were not cleaned until after 4pm - not good enough

We ate at the Hemingway restaurant twice food very good, had room service 1 day and the food was also good. Had breakfast buffet twice food was ok but very expensive better breakfast food and value nearby

Overall this hotel is ok what let it down this time was the pool being unavailable and the poor service to get the rooms cleaned

Hotel is one of the best in Orlando. The quality and amenities make the money you spend feel like it was a good deal. There is a lot of entertainment at the hotel, I would recommend making one of your days a fun day at the hotel, from golfing to swimming there is a lot of fun for all types. The hotel is going through a renovation in the pool area and it does limit the amount of fun you can have if swimming is your preference, the construction was also loud at times. However, the hotel did a good amount of effort in keeping the guest entertained with new activities during the construction work that is happening. They added water slides and additional hot tubs during this time when the regular hot tubs and pools are under construction. My family and I have stayed here twice and would stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: When you arrive, ask to get a room with a view of the Fireworks at Epcot, really great!
