“VERY NICE RESORT BUT SMALL POOL AND ROOMS FOR A RESORT THIS SIZE.”
Reviewed 23 May 2014

I've been going to Disney World since I was a kid ( early 70's) and have stayed at almost all of their resorts. The Bay Lake Tower at Contemporary Resort was one we decided to try on our WDW trip in October of 2013.

We usually stay at a couple of different resorts in WDW on each visIt as we travel light and we like the fact that each resort is totally unique and a completely different experience. To our surprise Bay Lake turned out to be a very good resort. The grounds are clean and uncluttered and only a short walk to the Magic Kingdom. The pool is a bit plain and seems small for s resort this size. Our room was a little small for the money but had a very modern and refreshing decor.I like that fact that a DVD/CD player was included in the room as Disney TV can grate on you after a short time.

The California Grille Restaurant is tasty, but expensive ( I will review that restaurant soon!) but food options aren't limited to all fancy fair. The Wave offers some good choices and Chef Mickey has character dinning all conveniently located in the main Contemporary Tower along with a food court as well. Overall it is a nice resort, but for my money there are better lodging choices at WDW.

Room Tip: Take advantage of the location, walking distance to The Magic Kingdom, great locations to see the MK...

I stayed there with 6 family the week before Memorial Day. We stayed in the grand villa which was more than grand. Although we opted for the lagoon view, we had room 8510, of which you could see the lagoon as well as the park. Space Mountain was down below and we had a great view of the castle and fireworks. The room was very much contemporary, however, the living room which spanned two floors high was not amenable to family gatherings, as there is only one couch and the wooden chairs were very uncomfortable. It would make sense to have another couch or love seat or some fabric chairs. Although our room was on the 15th floor, it was right above the ramp for deliveries and every morning and it woke us up every morning with the beeping sound when they were in reverse. I will say that the staff was awesome and appreciated their immediate help when we had to rush a family member to the hospital for severe stomach virus and dehydration. Transportation options are great with the monorail at the contemporary, but I guess we just miss the Boardwalk atmosphere.

Our home resort is the boardwalk, and unfortunately the grand villa was not available.

As a dvc owner of this resort I can't fault it. Rooms are spacious and modern. Location is excellent. Literally a stone throw from the magic kingdom entrance. Monorail takes you to various other Disney parks.
So rooms. We took a 3 bed lock off room with kitchen bathrooms etc. Fantastic design. Main bedroom had ensuite with jacuzzi bath which you could slide the panel back to watch TV. Other bedrooms were fine. Also two other bathrooms were well equipped with tv etc. Kitchen is well stocked with all the mod cons and has fridge with ice maker microwave etc.
Apartment has laundry room with washing machine and dryer.
Staying here gives you early access to the parks and as it's right next door it's great.
Outdoor space is a bonus. Nice swimming pool with sunBeds and kids slide.
Overall fab place to stay and if you get a room over looking the car park you can see the fireworks. We had our room over looking the lake. Beautiful.

My favorite point, the walkway to Magic Kingdom! We stayed in a One bedroom with five adults, the two bathrooms are a major plus. Not all of Disney's one bedroom villas have two baths. The front desk staff/concierge are really friendly, I love that they welcome you every time you come in. We checked in early in the AM and went to the park, middle of the afternoon I got a text saying our room was ready. Now about the room... Great space but housekeeping needs a class on vacuuming. From the start there was trash in plain view. All week the hall in front of our room needed vacuuming, just a lazy job done. The beds a really comfy, sofa bed and the chair bed. The blankets are keep in the ottoman, and didn't smell good, so we called to have them replaced. The room was a bit worn to be so new. I think that the rooms should be cleaned more often, DVC or not.
The views are amazing! The walk over to the food court at the Contemporary isn't bad. The walkway although covered doesn't help in a florida thunderstorm.

Room Tip: Some lake view rooms have a view of the Magic Kingdom from the balcony. The higher the better. We we...

My party of 6 (2 grandparents, 2 parents, 2 small kids) LOVED Bay Lake Tower, the Disney Vacation Club (timeshare) property attached to the Contemporary. We rented the villa through a timeshare broker rather than directly through Disney. The 2 bedroom villa was huge and gave us all plenty of space. I kept pinching myself that by renting the time share, we had so much more and better space, and for much less money, than if we had rented 2 adjoining hotel rooms at any monorail hotel. The finishings were beautiful. Our only small gripe was that the living room furniture was a bit uncomfortable. Although we paid for a "standard" view, we lucked into the best room in that category, which had a great view of the monorail and a side view of Cinderella's Castle, Space Mountain, and fireworks. BLT has its own exclusive pool with waterslide. Access to the Contemporary was easy over a sky bridge. The Contemporary has a good quick service restaurant and some great table service options. The Contemporary is also on the monorail, so that was great for our Magic Kingdom and Epcot days. BLT/Contemporary is the only resort with a walking path to the Magic Kingdom, so that was great the night we stayed in the park for the fireworks. We just walked home instead of fighting the crowds for the monorail. BLT/Contemporary also has water ferry access to Fort Wilderness, where you can enjoy certain activities as well as the Hoop Dee Doo Revue. You can also see the Electric Water Pageant from the hotel. BLT was an awesome place to stay! I would definitely stay there again.

Here is the good and the bad:

RIDICULOUSLY LATE CHECK IN -we never received the check in text message that they promised. Our room was not ready to check in until 7:30PM!!! So basically we arrived at 8:30 and could not get into our until around 8pm after our lugagge was delivered. Felt a little cheated considering we paid $650 a night.

The jacuzzi bathtub did not work (the jets did not turn on)

The boat parade at night is SUPER LOUD, so if you have an infant or you are a light sleeper, beware of that. That parade starts at 10pm.

Service at pool bar is not friendly. We noticed this also at the Grand Floridian pool bar. That was the only bad service we encountered in our stay.

The good:
Amazing location for proximity to park.
Evening smores and bonfire...so unexpected and fun
Great view of fireworks
Rooms were large and very clean and modern
Villas included laundry room and extra bathroom
Kitchens were very well stocked

Room Tip: Keep in mind that lakeview rooms have a loud boat parade every night.

Fantastic family oriented Disney property. Great pools, great hospitality, great accommodations. Very well maintained, excellent customer service. 14th floor one bedroom suite. Incredible full length window views of south and east Bay Lake. Rooms very modern. Lots of activities, can walk to Magic Kingdom and right on monorail to Epcot or Magic Kingdom. Excellent buffet breakfast/dinner at Chef Mickey's. Nightly camp fire and outdoor Disney movies. Lots of children activities. All in all, a great resort for families!
