This was our 2nd time at this property - and I have the same thing to say about both stays. Very cool hotel with a great theme - fun to come home to at night. However, that trip home is LONG...as this seems to be very far from every park at WDW. The bus gets very full because it's one bus for Jambo House and Kidani Village, and they are both large properties. We used the buses exclusively the first visit, and we felt we spent A LOT of time on buses or waiting for buses. More so than any other property at which we had stayed at WDW previously. The 2nd trip to AKL, we rented a car. You get free parking when you are staying on the resort, so we drove to the parks instead of using the buses. That was significantly faster, especially if you went close to park opening and parked up close to the entrance. That way at night it was a quick walk to your car and you didn't have to wait for the parking lot tram. We were so happy we did that. Just a suggestion for those considering this hotel....the rental car made our lives so much easier!!

Other than the location, I really like this hotel. The theme is fun and the restaurants are great. My kids really enjoyed it - especially when the animals were on the Savannah. Just a word of warning though - they aren't out there that often (at least when we were there), so don't feel bad about not booking the Savannah view. We rarely saw animals when we woke up or got home at night, and let's face it....you're not in your room that much at WDW!

Room Tip: Don't feel bad about saving money and not paying for Savannah view - not missing much.

The is a wonderful Disney property that has all of the expected Disney Details. The service is great, the restaurants are good, the rooms are clean---however the beds in the Studio Suite are below average. The mattresses on both the king sized bed and the sofa bed made our long days at the parks end poorly. I think the floor would have better comfort. We had a savanna view and greatly enjoyed seeing the animals from our room. The Disney bus ride is not as bad as some may complain as even when we stayed at other Disney properties, we may still have the same length wait or longer if we arrive at the transport station immediately after our bus left the station.

Another complaint we had was the airline service downstairs. We completed the proper procedures with paying for our luggage, and going downstairs to provide the payment confirmation, however they could only print and check-in only two of our tickets. They kept claiming it was a US Air issue, however, the staff really didn't attempt to contact any additional help until it was time for us to catch our bus to the airport, and then just left us with having to just go to the airport and stand in line anyway. Their attitude was really that is was just a problem we would have to solve and they claimed US Air would "see" we paid for the luggage. However as you can guess, when we arrived in the airport, US Air had no record of our baggage payment and we had to pay again. We did eventually get our money back from the Disney baggage system, but it took almost 3 weeks.

All in all a great property with lots of extras, but the beds really made us rethink staying here again. And we will probably reconsider paying for Disney to just handle our baggage again. As many other Disney properties had great comfort.

Room Tip: Savanna Views are worth the extra money at this property. If you are already paying this much for a...

We had the opportunity to stay here on our last trip to Walt Disney World. We absolutely loved our stay here. There are so many things to do on this property other than just visiting the theme parks. If you are planning to spend time at the resort make sure you get a Savannah view room. Having a giraffe right off of your balcony (not close enough to touch) is a nice way to start the day!

Room Tip: Kidani Village does not have it's own "food court" you will have to walk over to Jambo...

This hotels exterior and interior looks magnificent as does almost everything else in this hotel. The pool and large hot tub was wonderful and so were the balcony rooms overseeing the majestic wildlife peaking through your window in the morning, the service in the catering establishments were okay but nothing major was wrong with them, but the breakfasts were very nice and consisted of a vast selection of tasty full English foods.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the wildlife are a must have if you want to experience the best out of this Hotel...

To begin, I have stayed all over property in all 3 categories. My personal favorite deluxe is wilderness lodge, but this resort is a close second.
This resort is best for families who want an experience out of their stay and for those who wish to have down days without park activity.

The service: from check in to check out, this resort announces it's presence as a classy experience. Upon arrival, we had a knock on our door. A kind woman was verifying that our room was up to cleanliness standard and that we were comfortable. She met my daughter who was raving about a bunny on the savannah. The woman returned later with a bunny towel animal, this made my daughter so happy, and impressed my husband and I. All of the staff greeted us in the hallways and we met several kind African representatives. While enjoying the savannah overlook off the lobby, we met Maude. Maude tried to connect with my daughter by allowing my daughter to lead the interaction. My daughter is a shy introvert, but opened up to Maude by showing her her very special stuffed animal, Dumbo. Maude sang a beautiful song about elephants with her beautiful accent. My daughter then really began interacting. This was so meaningful because often times staff do not understand how to interact with introvert children.

Dining: please see my reviews for all 3 options at this location. All required separate reviews.

Room:
We had a savannah view overlooking the Arusha savannah. Upon arrival we saw very few animals, a staff member explained that they appear at different times. Sure enough, they slowly trickled over to our side and we were graced by giraffe, zebra, and a number of small animals. I enjoyed seeing and hearing the grazing animals just below our window. We had two queen beds in our room which worked well. We had ample room to space out. The bathroom was lovely, and the shower was incredible. We live on the coast of Florida with tight water regulations so our water pressure and amount is limited, I could have stayed in this shower all day. I appreciated the chairs on the balcony. I did notice a sign on our door advising guests that cameras were monitoring the savannah for safety, which is perfectly understood, just make sure you close the curtains before changing ;-).

Pool: we only used the pool off of the lobby, but really enjoyed it! We took almost an entire day to enjoy the pool. The water slide was my daughter's favorite part. Just be sure you watch your child get to the top of the slide. There is a small path leading away from the pool and to the hot tub, and my daughter tried to wander off. The life guards appear to be very good about monitoring the pool, but they are not babysitters so do not expect them to watch your kiddos. Many kids were unsupervised or passively supervised from parents in chairs. Kids drown in all pools, and it could happen here, even at Disney.

The arcade is a separate expense and doesn't have much for younger kids, I saw a lot of 8-14 year olds.

Simba's Clubhouse- my daughter saw this going to the pool. She begged and cried to go. I was reluctant because I didn't see the need to drop my kid off for a few hours while on a FAMILY vacation. She was persistent so we allowed here to go for the minimum of two hours. It costs around $12 per. Hour, but my daughter loved it. The staff was wonderful.

Shopping: the only shop I visited was the gift shop off of the lobby. It was we'll stocked and had a bit of everything including unique handmade items.

Buses: we didn't use this system as we had our car and preferred that option over a bus.

Spa; did not attend.

Activities: there is a mix of paid and free activities for kids, pay close attention to the documents at check in as a time sheet is provided.
The savannah overlooks are awesome and have great educational material. This resort would be wonderful for class vacation assignments and for homeschoolers. Cultural and zoological lessons are practically endless.

This resort is expensive, but a classy, fun and unique experience for families. If you are a first timer, or a group looking for a significant experience, this is the place.

Room Tip: Choose a very high floor (5) or lowest option, these offer best views.

As Disney Vacation Club members, we had the opportunity to stay at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge (Kidani Village). This property really enhanced our Disneyworld vacation. The rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable. Our one bedroom "villa" had a complete kitchen with a full sized refrigerator and stove--helpful in saving some money on food. Super Target is about a 10 minute drive away and is great to stock up on groceries. You will need a car if you want to grocery shop! The convenience store in the lobby is nice for a few items, but is limited and on the expensive side. We rented a car from the car care center the first day we were there (they will pick you up) and went grocery shopping for the week. Although we did not have a savannah view room, the animals can be seen from the lobby or at the many viewpoints (staff members are stationed at the main lookout point near Sanaa restaurant to answer any questions). The service was what I would expect from Disney--great!! As with the other Disney Hotels, there is frequent bus service to the parks and Downtown Disney, as well as Disney's Magical Express, a free bus shuttle to and from the airport. Overall a great Disney vacation at a great Disney property!
