“The amazing Animal Kingdom Lodge”
Reviewed 1 June 2014

Stayed 7 days at the Animal Kingdom Lodge back in April 2014, Cannot fault the front desk service, the staff were absolutely fantastic pulling out all the stops to make our stay memorable. They arranged for my son an I to have access to the Kilimanjaro club, so that we take an exclusive early morning safari in the Animal Kingdom Park. it was amazing as we're were in the park at just after 07:00 and managed to get some wonderful close up pictures of the animals, something I will never forget. The hotel room we had was facing the pool, we had a lovely view across to the pool bar, the pool wa fantastic, spotlessly clear as was the whole resort. The rooms are African themed as you would expect, and had all the facilities we need for our stay. The maid service was daily and could not fault them. it's nice to see Disney have one upgraded to room TV's to LCD flat panels which now means the is more room in the rooms. The fast food service restaurant on site was adequate for our early morning needs. However being on the dinning plan we were able to explore restaurants at a variety of hotels, but Boma at AKL did not disappoint and must rate as one of the best restaurants in WDW. One a whole I would recommend this hotel and look forward to returning in the not too distant futures

Room Tip: Go for pool or savanna view ,standard view is of the car park.

We were in orlando for 3 weeks (7th-28th of May) and stayed here for our final week. From the minute we arrived through to our checkout we were totally amazed by the level of service, kindness shown by all the staff at the hotel. We dined in both Jiko and Sanaa restaurants and the food was to die for.
We were in orlando for our honeymoon and got a fabulous room overlooking the savannah (room 2272). The only negative comment I have about this hotel is the housekeeping, they clean the room and changed our towels daily however we did have dirty bed sheets (after I spilled some coffee) and these weren't changed. When I requested it be changed it wasn't done but was done on a 2nd request. I was told that they are changed every 4 days as part of disneys green friendly policy but I feel this could be done differently.
Overall this is a beautiful hotel with great facilities (the spa is fabulous) and amazing staff well worth the money to stay here.

The farm has come is what our three year old grandson shouted in delight when he woke up from his nap and saw zebras, giraffes and wildebeest. The afternoon grazing was different from the morning feeding we had when we last stayed, but our room was much closer to the lobby. If either matter to you, consult the hotel and make request prior to arrival, but pay the extra for the savannah room and have a zoo for yourself !

The resort is very pretty. When you enter the lobby, you are overwhelmed with the high lobby, the site of the savannah, and the scents coming from the hotel restaurants. We had a slight problem at check in (the entire reservation was a mess, and with the magic bands, things got even more complicated.) It took us an hour to check in, so by the time we were done getting our bags & finding our room, the sun had already set. The front desk employees were apologetic, we were all a little hungry since it was after 8pm, but after we got to our rooms we were happier. We had a great view of the savannah (pretty much every room with a savannah view has a great view). It was very neat to see the animals just hanging around outside. The room was decorated nicely, and we were very impressed with the upgraded bathroom. (Although, the toilet & door were quite close together). We had drinks down at the pool bar that were pretty tasty. And we had dinner at Mara, the "quick service" restaurant. The burgers were ok, ntohing too spectacular. The resort is pretty big, so we did have to point out markers to my MIL so she wouldn't get lost in the hallways. The buses were easy to access. When we returned from the Magic Kingdom, we got off the bus at the first stop. This was a huge mistake. We were at the Kidani house instead of Jamba, so we had to take a long walk around the property to get to our room (this was made worse by the fact that we had just walked around Animal & Magic Kingdoms all day long). We wish the bus driver would've announced which stop we were at. There were kids at the resort, but we didn't have any issues with noise. We might stay again, depending on if we can get a good deal again (FIL works for ABC/Disney, so we got a wonderful discount on the rooms). I'm not sure if I'd be ok with spending full price on the rooms.

Visited this hotel to celebrate my 40th birthday and was not disappointed. I could not fault any aspect of The Animal Kingdom Lodge. Firstly all the staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive. The room had a Savannah view (highly recommended if you have kids) and the kids loved spotting the various animals roaming this area. We stopped at Jambo house and were close to all the amenities. The pool was excellent with a maximum depth of 1.5 metres and was well patrolled by 3 lifeguards. There was also a small flume and a couple of VERY hot tubs. Music and kids activities poolside from 2.30 - 5pm. The kids enjoyed roasting marshmallows by the fire in the evenings, all this with the backdrop of an African Savannah.
There were 2 restaurants at Jambo house - The Mara was a quick service paper plates and plastic cutlery fare serving various fast foods. Boma was the main restaurant and is a quality buffet serving an array of different cultural cuisines.
The other section of the resort is called Kidani Village. The swimming pool here is more children orientated, and has an excellent splash area for them to enjoy.
The restaurant at Kidani Village is called Sanaa, and has an Indian theme. We ate here once and I was very impressed - however the cuisine did not appeal to 2 fussy eating kids.
The transportation to and from the hotel to the parks was extremely efficient and certainly a massive perk for staying at a Disney Hotel - maximum wait was approx 10 mins.
The hotel played a major part in the enjoyment of this holiday.

and has a large splash area for them to enjoy

Room Tip: If you have kids - a Savannah room is highly recommended

Stayed at AKL with granddaughters (3 and 5 years old) for 3 day Florida Residents package to Disney. Requested Club Level so we could eat leisurely bfast, coffee before heading out. Never took advantage of other included snacks and evening treats because we were always out! We never ate breakfast in the any of the dining rooms, on in club level lounge. With on-line check in, my check in was so fast and our room was ready for us on our arrival at 1100am instead of 3pm! Our room was beautiful and quiet...beds were extremely comfortable, great view....very good nights sleep. It was recommended to me that we stay at Jambo House, 2-4 the floor, near lobby, facing Arusha savanna. I got all my requests and our beautiful balcony looked out to up to 4 giraffes, zebra, ostrich, wildebeest, gazelles and more! More than I could have hoped for! Kids were thrilled! Outdoor movie at night for kids (Peter Pan), great swimming pool (zero entry was great for kids), night vision goggles for looking at animals on savanna. It was very, very nice. Food was excellent. Ate early walk up dinner at Boma. We were seated immediately at 6 pm and the food was excellent.... there was plenty of variety, even for picky eaters and children. Try the ginger carrot soup! I raved about it and they gave me the recipe! Mara was great for informal meals. We frequently got our food there and took it out by the pool to eat, so the kids could swim and eat. Convenient transportation to parks.
Our stay at the lodge was very expensive (even with residents discount), but it was perfect and worth the splurge. I'd do it again!
I will definitely alter my strategy for visiting the parks, which was a much different experience than the hotel....but that's another story!

Room Tip: With small children, Jambo House, 2-4 th floors, facing Arusha savanna was great!

Fabulous from check in to check out! Lucky enough to get a savannah view which was brilliant, if you don't there are loads of viewing points so don't panic! Room spotless! The pool is brilliant and well watched over by lifeguards! My 6 yr old loved the pool slide and toasting marshmallows on an evening!! Transfers to all parks were great, longest we waited was 10 mins!! Overall fantastic!!!
