We stayed here on a much needed break after a horridly frigid Northern winter. The Magic Express bus system was easy to use and we were glad to not have the hassle of a rental car/driving, especially after arriving late to the Orlando airport. The grounds of the hotel are lush. The lobby is impressive -- all dark wood carvings, a lofty ceiling, and African art. Loved the open fireplace. Hotel desk service was predictably excellent (it is Disney, after all). We had reserved a basic room but were given a room with a partial view of the animal park at no extra charge. The walk to the room was long, but it offered a nice view of the animals. The room was reasonably sized and we had a small balcony. Food options were somewhat limited and overpriced for the captive audience. The African-themed restaurants required reservations made in advance, which took a bit of spontaneity out of our day/evening. The Indian restaurant was excellent! Yes, it is a Disney-fied version of the African savannah, and the fences around the animals reminded you that you were located inside a park/zoo, but it was fun...and an easy, safe stay.

Room Tip: Ask very nicely for a room with a view

If you plan on visiting WDW, you have to stay in a Disney hotel. Shuttle bus from the airport is nice and smooth, and shuttle buses to and from the five parks is frequent and convenient!! (just outside the hotel!)
First of all, you can always count on Disney service. There was something wrong with my reservation since i booked the room from Expedia.com, and the check-in lady asked us to go on our dinner plan while she was resolving the issue. When we finished our dinner, we were told that our room got upgraded to a giraffe side room. Getting upgraded is always good, but their friendly and considerate attitude is what I love the most!!
Then we walked into this amazing room with patio overlooking giraffes and zebras!! It is nothing like waking up to those cute wild animals in front of your eyes!! The room was big and clean with African decor! It's not the modernest hotel room you can get, but the point is to enjoy the true "Animal Kingdom" feel!!!
There are other great advantages staying in Disney hotel, like the waistband that gives you three fast passes, takes care of all your purchasing, and it even comes with your name on it! All the stuff you buy in theme parks will get delivered to your hotel so you don't need to carry them around.
We will for sure staying here if we have chance to visit WDW someday in the future!!

Room Tip: Def. get a room on animal side. It's worthy!!

You can imagine the anticipation many people feel before they travel to Walt Disney World Resort but once you reach animal kingdom lodge you are faces with disaster! The resort itself is marvelous with African cuisine and a unique savanna right outside your windows but the service at this expensive resort it terrible! I have had many issues with the staff at the resort and it has been found that the moderate resorts have nicer staff than the deluxe! Eh!!!

We live in the area and honestly avoid the Disney area most of the time but we have a 3 year old and 18 month old so we take them from time to time. We stayed at AKL for the weekend to celebrate by 3 year olds bday. Our boys loved it! We had a Savannah view room and saw tons of animals while we were there. The pool area and restaurants were also good. We ate breakfast at Mara each morning which was quick yet good. We ate dinner one night at Boma and although expensive found the food to be wonderful. We'll enjoy it even more one day when we're not looking after 2 toddlers! We took the bus service to Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom and newer had to wait for a bus. The ride to MK was a little long but manageable. We'll be back! There is also a nice shaded playground area by the pool we didn't use but found on the last day. Looked nice!

We stayed in one of the lower rooms facing the larger savannah area. We were not disappointed by the views and proximity to the animals. Room was nice, nothing special. There was a free wine tasting of south african wines that was nice. Pool is large but usually pretty crowded. Prices are on par with other disney resorts of the same caliber (Grand Floridian, Contemporary, etc...). We have stayed in several of the other hotels as we live in Florida and so far this is one of our most favorite disney hotels.

Charm has lost its appeal here. The rooms and halls are drab, perhaps a way to camouflage waning maintenance and care.
Bus transport to and from the amusement parks are too sparse especially for dozens of waiting customers sweltering with family and friends. The staff are varied but when I asked the concierge to help change a resort dining reservation, I received sympathy but the final outcome was there was nothing he could do to help.
I plan to visit the "Most Magical Place on Earth" again but will steer away from Animal Kingdom Lodge and take greater caution trusting Disney's Restaurant Reservation system.

We stayed here 7/ 17- 7/19. A beautiful resort with great staff! Loved seeing all the animals on the savannahs. We enjoyed all the viewing areas located throughout the resort. Lots of great photo ops. The staff is wonderful and accommodating! Beautifully decorated, comfortable room. I am rating it as a 4 only because of the amount of walking required to our room. (Great views while you walk.) Great experience!
