“Cozy, tranquil, and in the best off site Disney location possible.”
Reviewed 21 January 2010

I was happily surprised with this quiet little all suites hotel. Walking distance to Downtown Disney, and a 5 minute drive to all major Disney parks. Too numerous to count were the great quality restaurants and two supermarkets at the ready to stock your kitchenette in every room. If you time it right, the hot, free! breakfast buffet and free shuttle to Disney parks, were definitely a major plus for me and four other family members traveling on a budget. Not to mention you save $14.00 by not having to park your car at Disney. The parking at Hawthorn is, you guessed it, also free! The rooms were spacious enough for three adults and two small children and everything was very clean. I will definitely stay here again for our next Disney adventure!!

LOCATION
Firstly, when you go to Orlando, your hotel is usually just a base, so if you want clean, friendly, good location (and if you have a hire car) this hotel is for you.
If you rely on hotel/public transport and you like to be in walking distance of a lot of shops/restaurants then you would be better staying at International Drive, however, at the Hawthorn, you are within walking distance of several restaurants - Perkins, Dennys, IHOP, Red Lobster, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Macdonalds, Black Angus (we loved this steak restaurant, one of our favourites.)
Hawthorn is a couple of mins drive from I4, and downtown disney, in Lake Buena Vista. There is a pharmacy and a doctors couple of mins drive away also. The doctors is open usually till 8pm, very good service, I had a chest infection :( very expensive though, over $250, we paid upfront, and claimed from our insurance when we got home, but I think if you take your paperwork in with you, they can sort the payment through them there and then.
HOTEL
We arrived at the hotel in the evening, and the desk was manned by Jason (Jason rules!) who upgraded us to an executive suite (Living room, kitchen, separate bedroom)
We like our hotel quiet, and this one suited our needs perfectly. (Again, if you want to have your children entertained at the hotel, this may not be ideal, the pools are small, but there is a small games room and a basketball court)
The breakfast was complimentary, if you expect a feast, this isn't for you. You get the basic choice - 2 cereals, toast, usually either bagels or waffles, porridge, and 2 hot items, ie sausages and scrambled eggs, tea, coffee. juice - you serve yourself, so you can eat as much as you want. (What do you want for free?! )
The hotel decor is what I would call basic American hotel standard, nothing special, but it all seemed new and clean. We never saw any litter in or around the hotel, it was always spotless. The maid service was always good. (If you don't have a 'do not disturb' sign, just ask a maid, she will provide one happily)
We have been to Orlando many times and have stayed at a lot of hotels, and we would definately stay here again, another one of our other favourites being the Fairfield Inn at the Mariott Village, Lake Buena Vista. (Which has a full breakfast with every item you could think of being offered - for those of you who like a hearty breakfast!)
TRAVEL
We booked our hotel, car and flight (virgin) independently, I would recommend this if you have a few hours to trawl the internet, and it is always cheaper than going through a travel agent.
(Internet prices always vary each time you check, but I've had previous deals through Expedia, Opodo, Travel Republic, Travelocity to name a few) and every time I have beaten the travel agents by at least £100 per person.
Virgin have always been the best choice for us for comfort on the flight, however, this time they weren't as good as usual. (dirty planes, surly staff, inedible food, broken T.V. screeens etc) however, I would recommend them for their early check in at downtown Disney on your homeward flight.
You can check your luggage in from 8:30am, then you can have a full day at the parks, and when you get to the airport, you just go straight to passport control. Please note though, that they will charge you $10 each for this service if you have not booked ALL of your holiday through Virgin travel agents.

my husband and my son and daughter and i,booked this hotel back in january 09.After travelling for nearly 23 hours, the very freindly receptionist jason, had us booked in within minutes. The hotel was very clean with maid service to your room every day which was exellent. The food was good if you liked eggs, and there was plenty of fruit, bread, bagels, even porrige. The wine and beer in the evenings were lovely. My son really enjoyed the half basket ball court out side just over from the swimming pool.Because we were there for christmas the reception area was all decorated with a tree and stockings hanging over the fire place. The only down side was the pool is not so big,Christmas day was just another day over there,so we will be staying in the uk at christmas time.We really enjoyed this hotel and would stay here and in the lbv area again.

We visited South Florida and did our share of hotels. This was the worst by far. When we arrived we were told the quoted price/rate was wrong and were asked to pay more. Then the rooms were smelly. The breakfast (included in the prices) was completely below standard. Worst, they overcharged us and had to ask my credit card to review the charges. There are many other hotels in that same area. Avoid this one.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hawthorn Suites. Location was excellent. You can walk to several good restaurants in 10 minutes and drive anywhere else quickly, but it is in a quiet spot away from all the giltz and bright lights. We had a 2 room suite with loads of space, kitchen dining area, etc. Take tea bags if you like tea as only coffee provided. Reception were very helpful; thanks Jason. Good breakfast. Free nightly drinks if you are around. You can drive to Disney Village end of Downtown Disney (car park one) park for free and hop onto their buses and go anywhere for free. Change at French Quater bus stop 1 for all the parks, we found the best. If you love architecture then go to South Florida College about 50 miles south down Interstate 4 to see 6 Frank Lloyd Wright Buildings. Use Palm Parkway to get about Orlando as very quiet, unless Interstate 4 is busy. Cirque du Soleil excellent. Earl of Sndwich at Downtown good value. Goodings Supermarket at Cross Roads good value.

we stayed at this hotel for part of our trip to disney, universal, ect. (because the other goergous place didn't have any rooms for all of the days we wanted to stay. our toilet clogged the second morning we were there and asked them to unclog it. the maintence man came to plunge it pretty fast-i must say on his behalf. but alittle later (next time someone used the bathroom) the toilet clogged again (it appearently wasn't totally fixed the first time) we again asked them to unclog it again and later the man came to "fix " it. this time the maintainance man looked at us as if we were doing something wrong but i can assure you that we were not.when he came this time he grumbled that there was paper still in it and preceded to scoop it out and put it in our trash can and left it there! GROSS! the next time someone used the toilet yes, you guessed it, it was still clogged. this time my husband went down to the front desk and explained to them that the plunger was not fixing the problem and they will need to "snake it" (my husband said that is a tool they put down into the drain to unclog any "problems")the man said they would come fix it and that they do infact have one of those tools. we then left for the day to go to one of the parks. after a long exhausting day with the kids we came "home" to an awful smell hitting us in the face as we opened the door.it was late and not something i felt like dealing with after a day like that.i was furious that they left a toilet full of (i am sure you know what -that i do not need to describe) and all of the stuff that ran over on to the floor was still there.i told them again at the desk. to get the response of that we didnt tell them until my husband reminded them about the snake conversation he changed his mind and said oh yeah thats right and "if we want them to fix it let them know" and "we are welcome to use the public bathroom down the hall near the lobby". are you kidding me! my husband had to get up in the middle of the night, get dressed again to go down the hallway to the lobby to use the bathroom. (mean while our room smelled like crap!). we had to pull the bathroom door shut until the morning when we decided to just go home a day early. the man at the front desk at check out asked us how our stay was and even he was mortified that we were treated like that!!!! ****our other half of our stay we stayed at cane island resorts and would never stay at another place in orlando area! it is absulutely beautiful ! granite countertops in both full bathrooms and kitchen, desk everywhere a countertop was, both bedrooms had full walkin closets , beautiful full kitchen also with granite, ceramic tile floors through out unit. bedroom and living room had flat screen plasma/lcd tv's. another walk in closet in living area and a complete seperate laundry room with washer and dryer (soaps included for dish washer and washing machine) everything looked brand new and imaculate!!!!! also forgot fully stocked kitchen with every utensil and dish ever needed even a complete knife set in wooden knife block. complete dining room table with 8 chairs and everything is decorated beautifully.we got that beautiful place and was very affordable too!!!!! can't say enough about CANE ISLAND RESORTS!!! ***** GO STAY THERE!!!!!!
