Marriott's Harbour Lake

Reviewed 22 January 2014

Family of 4, aged 8 and 6 went to see Disney and Orlando.

We stayed here as I had hotel points, so it was free. We used this hotel as a base for doing the disney universal thing, and when the kids needed a rest we stayed at the hotel and played in the pool.

We had an apartment with 2 bedrooms on the first floor, we had a first class time and I can recommend it as a base for exploring.

Stayed here with my family and we had a really nice time. The rooms are great and very clean. Actually the entire resort is very clean. They have a cute little kids pool are with a big pirate ship that your kids will just LOVE. The balconies have pretty views and it's close to everything Disney/Universal :) If you want to have drinks, go to the bar by the pool. A little overpriced but it's nice to relax and watch the game. The bartenders and very attentive and I remember them even being a little funny.

We stayed at Marriott's Harbour Lake for one week in January. Upon check in we were given a suite on the first floor. I asked for one on a higher level which would be quieter and we were given a very large corner room on the third floor.

The service was amazing. On several occasions we called down to the front desk (we had problems with the safe, we needed more soap, shampoo and towels and a light bulb replaced) and our problems were not only solved momentarily, but we received follow up phone calls to ensure that everything was taken care of.

Our room was very clean and the grounds were well taken care of. We did not have any children with us, but it would be a terrific place for families with small children to stay.

I usually have trouble sleeping in hotels because of the quality of the mattress on the bed. Our mattress at this Marriott was obviously very new and very comfortable. Needless to say, I had seven nights of peaceful sleep.

My only complaint was that I would have appreciated receiving more towels. The cost of replacement towels is $10.00 or, I was told, I could wash them myself. I was not thrilled with that idea while on vacation.

Room Tip: We stayed in Building 31 on the 3rd floor beside the laundry room. Except for a inconsiderate guest...

This is not the grandest of Marriotts resorts by any means however if you have small children then the play areas with and without water are much better for them. They are safe too as lots of squirting water but nothing you are going to drown in so parents and grandparents can relax their guard a little which makes for a more relaxing holiday.
Apartments are not huge and seating not terribly upmarket but again nice family atmosphere. Am taking my daughter and granddaughter (who is 2) here again this year as its just so good for families with small children.
Particularly good if you are visiting Seaworld or Discovery Cove as very near indeed.

We loved this place so much, we returned for a second stay. As always it was a great place for us and our kids, aged 5 & 6. Unfortunately they added a little too much chlorine near the end of the week and our new friends and their son got chemical burns, as did all of our family. Our daughter was in particular pain and refused to swim on the final two days of our stay. The resort did not take our concerns about this seriously and acted like they had never heard about it or seen it before. As a lawyer myself, sadly I think they are simply so concerned about liability that they are all instructed to play dumb. I'd love to know how many other guests complained.

I booked two of the 2-bedroom villas through interval exchange for a family vacation. The units were clean, spacious, well equipped, and appeared recently renovated (Bldg 31). Check in was easy and the staff we encountered in the lobby and in the patio grill were always friendly and helpful. I had a minor maintenance issue which was immediately addressed and fixed. We spent most of our days out in the theme parks, so we did not get a chance to take advantage of the many programs and services they offered... or the pool as it was too cold for swimming. I felt very safe and secure here. The complex is gated and is staffed by a security guard. No getting in without a room key card, or your name on the check in list for the day you arrive. It was very quiet at night. I didn't hear a thing while trying to sleep.

The area is also very nice and appeared safe. Lots of newer Marriot hotels, a huge CVS down the road, restaurants nearby on Central FL Expressway and on International Drive. There is a 24 hour super Wal-Mart a few miles away on Turkey Lake road where you can find anything you need to supply your room. Sea World is literally down the street and around the corner, as well as I-4 West to Disney, or Turkey Lake up to Universal. No park was more than 15 minutes away. Would definitely stay here again.

Only thing preventing a 5 star rating was that it would have been nice to have an indoor restaurant in addition to the outdoor one, Also the entrances to the rooms are outside (motel style) which was a bit icky on the cold rainy days.

We stayed as an exchange through Interval International. Check in was a breeze. Our unit had just been renovated and still had that "new carpet smell" but it was not a problem. We had a one bedroom villa. The full sized kitchen had plenty of utensils, pots/pans, silverware, etc. It also had an apartment sized washer/dryer. The kitchen came with dishwashing detergent and sink soap and the clothes washer came with detergent for two loads. The sleeper sofa, according to our two teenaged daughters who are 5'9" and 5'6", was very comfortable and big enough for both of them to sleep on. The bedroom has a comfortable king sized bed that was just a tad bit too firm for me but my husband slept very well on it. There was enough storage space for clothing and a small safe for valuables.

The bathroom could have been better. Having two teenaged daughters and myself getting ready in the morning, a larger vanity/mirror area would have been greatly appreciated. There is another mirror in the living space but the lighting was not the best. There is only one sink in the bathroom with limited counter space. The shower space was large with two shower heads but no tub. Having no tub is not a problem for us but I imagine someone with small children would prefer having a tub. It would have been nice to have the toilet roomed off instead of a part of the bathroom. That way it didn't block off the whole bathroom when one needed to "take care of business".

The porch was large and had a wire table with four chairs but was uncomfortable without padding and was a bit bare.

The oddest thing was that there was no maid service or replacement of towels and washcloths without paying an additional fee. We washed our towels but only started out with 2 washcloths. Just a heads up. We also took our own garbage out. Again, they give you the bags in the kitchen just different than any other resort I have stayed at.

The grounds were beautiful and the pool areas were very nice. It is definitely geared towards younger children with lots of pool space devoted to safe water play. There was a pool table, ping pong tables, foosball table, two basketball courts with two different height goals, soccer goals, fresbie golf, and a fire pit. Also, there were a couple of gas grills to use and covered picnic table areas to use.

The cafe/bar area was nice. We watched the 49er game on a very large pull down screen and was very enjoyable. I had the Palm Palm Shrimp Salad and the shrimp were very good! The resort is also on a large lake which was very pretty.

The staff that we interacted with was mainly at the front gate - they were always very cheerful with a quick wave!

It was a very relaxed atmosphere and absolutely no pressure to buy - not even one phone call!

The water did not taste very good but we bought water bottles to take to the parks. Walmart and Publix were not too far away and plenty of restaurants within a few miles. The front desk had maps and suggestions for dinner.

Be careful on the stairs though when it is damp they are very slippery!

Again, I would give this resort a 4.5 - just the bathroom and the additional costs for maid service brought it down from 5.

Room Tip: If you have small children, check to see if they have a room with a tub if this is important to you.
