We stayed in january 2014, in a 2 bedroom Villa. From the moment we pulled in, we knew this place was perfect for our family. From the friendly staff to the kid friendly environment, we had a blast the entire time. Every day they had activities for kids of all ages. We didn't even leave the resort for the first 4 days of our stay. The Villa was recently remodeled and very spacious and clean. We never heard a peep out of any of the other rooms. The staff was friendly and welcoming and they even took time to play and interact with our kids. This resort is very close to Sea World, Discovery Cove etc. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone with children. We cannnot wait to go back. My kids cried when we left and they still talk about the awesome time we had there!

We've been to the orlando area over 30 times. We've stayed onsite at Disney (Old Key West, Beach Club, Animal Kingdom, Polynesian, and just about all the rest), we've stayed onsite at Universal (Portofino Bay), and we were with a group and had to stay at Mystic Dunes (avoid at all costs!).

But a couple of years ago, we tried Marriott Harbour Lakes. It really is the best of the choices in Orlando if you're traveling with Kids. We've now stayed here three times, so we know the resort pretty well. Here's why it's the best choice:

1. Condo-style rooms. Your kids get their own room, you get a kitchen to cook a few meals, you get a washer/dryer for laundry, and you get SPACE with a living room, private balcony, and so on. The same style room at Disney will cost you about 3 times as much (and we were in the Disney Vacation Club, and rented from DVC members as well). Once you've gone condo-style with kids, you will never, ever go back to a single hotel room. For less money than a single room on property, you get to RELAX when you're back at your hotel.

2. Onsite activities. They have their own 18-hole minigolf course. You pay $30 per stay per family to play as much as you want (not per person, not per night, but for everyone in your party for the whole stay). We played every night on this last trip, and were the only ones on the course. No lines, no waiting, it was awesome. They have several pools with fun activities for kids of all ages. They have scheduled activities like movie night, magicians, games, and all the fun stuff. They have two basketball courts, a fire pit, gas grills, ping pong tables, and so on. It's a wonderful place to unwind after a stressful day at one of the area parks.

3. Upkeep. let's face it, some of the Orlando-area hotels are resorts start out really nice, but get worn down quickly after a few years - then never put the money back into maintenance. The great thing about the Marriott brand (and yes, the vacation clubs are now technically a separate company again, but still have the Marriott brand associated with them), is that they have high standards for maintaining rooms, common areas, and the grounds. This place is still like-new, and they quickly fix any issue you might have. The rooms amenities are a cut above disney (stainless steel fridges for example) and feel much more upscale.

4. Location. You're right between Universal and Disney, next door to Sea World, and 5 minutes from a super walmart and Whole Foods. You really are in the middle of everything, but feel like you're getting away from it while you stay. The trip to and from the airport is only 20 minutes, so you aren't wasting your time driving.

So give this place a try, they often have AAA rates that are supercompetitive with regular old hotels in the area.

When it comes to accommodations in the Orlando, Florida area, there is no shortage of possibilities. The Marriott Harbour Lake was recommended by a friend and we are so happy we chose to base our Orlando family vacation around this resort. We were 11 people in all and booked three 1 bedroom guest rooms, and 1 of the two bedroom villas to use as cooking and meal preparation for the group and a gathering place for family time and games. We were very delighted to arrive and find all our rooms ready and located all in the same building, with a view looking out over the ponds in the front of the resort. We had two babies in the group and the resort was very accommodating to provide us with high chairs and folding travel cribs. We couldn't change out of our traveling clothes fast enough and enjoy the pool areas with the young people and babies. The pool areas are perfect for a variety of ages. Wading ponds for the babies and slides even for the grownups. Another amenity that we enjoyed was the miniature golf. We ended up buying a weekly pass for the group, and I think there wasn't a day that went by that somebody didn't make good use of it. On Ice cream sundae day - we all made ice cream sundae's and enjoyed them at the pool. Sure did taste good on a hot sunny day!

The resort itself is well maintained, the screened in porch was perfect to extend the living area and keep the bugs out. All the units are painted in bright colors. The staff was very accommodating and we didn't have any problems during out stay. Harbour Lake is centrally located to the main popular family resorts such a Disney World, Epcott Center and Sea world. None of them are more than 20-30 minutes away even with the ever present bad traffic. One of our party did get sick during out stay and the staff pointed us in the direction of a medical clinic. Probably our favorite family activity - perhaps even more than the big resorts was Kelly Park. Tubing and swimming in the crystal clear waters. It's the perfect picnic spot and I think was only a minimal entrance fee per car plus tube rental at a local market just outside the entrance.

We plan to come back yearly. The pirate ship with slides and spouting water was a hit with my 3 & 5 year old boys. It's attached to a shallow pool. The bar and 2 hot tubs are near by for the parents. Across from the lobby is a water play ground, another pool and a hot tub. Great for older school age kids. They also offer table tennis and mini golf. As for the room it was beautiful with a screened in porch with table and chairs. We had a 2 room villa. It has a full kitchen, dinning room, family room with TV and washer/dryer. The 1st room has 2 full size beds with comfy linens and a full bath. The master room has a king size bed and 5 piece bathroom with views of the garden. We can't wait to go back! **very close to Sea World.**

Room Tip: Ask for a newly renovated room.

Family of 4, aged 8 and 6 went to see Disney and Orlando.

We stayed here as I had hotel points, so it was free. We used this hotel as a base for doing the disney universal thing, and when the kids needed a rest we stayed at the hotel and played in the pool.

We had an apartment with 2 bedrooms on the first floor, we had a first class time and I can recommend it as a base for exploring.

Stayed here with my family and we had a really nice time. The rooms are great and very clean. Actually the entire resort is very clean. They have a cute little kids pool are with a big pirate ship that your kids will just LOVE. The balconies have pretty views and it's close to everything Disney/Universal :) If you want to have drinks, go to the bar by the pool. A little overpriced but it's nice to relax and watch the game. The bartenders and very attentive and I remember them even being a little funny.

We stayed at Marriott's Harbour Lake for one week in January. Upon check in we were given a suite on the first floor. I asked for one on a higher level which would be quieter and we were given a very large corner room on the third floor.

The service was amazing. On several occasions we called down to the front desk (we had problems with the safe, we needed more soap, shampoo and towels and a light bulb replaced) and our problems were not only solved momentarily, but we received follow up phone calls to ensure that everything was taken care of.

Our room was very clean and the grounds were well taken care of. We did not have any children with us, but it would be a terrific place for families with small children to stay.

I usually have trouble sleeping in hotels because of the quality of the mattress on the bed. Our mattress at this Marriott was obviously very new and very comfortable. Needless to say, I had seven nights of peaceful sleep.

My only complaint was that I would have appreciated receiving more towels. The cost of replacement towels is $10.00 or, I was told, I could wash them myself. I was not thrilled with that idea while on vacation.

Room Tip: We stayed in Building 31 on the 3rd floor beside the laundry room. Except for a inconsiderate guest...
