We just returned from a weekend getaway at the JW Marriott at Grand Lakes. The resort property is shared with the Ritz Carlton hotel. The grounds are manicured and the pool areas kept clean. As a guest, you are able to use the pool and snack bars at the Ritz as well. My husband and I found our location at the Marriott better if not nicer than the Ritz and we joked that they should switch the property names! Staff was extremly helpful in meeting our needs and helped make our weekend unforgettable. We were happy with the size of the room and the bathroom had both a shower stall and seperate tub that were clean. The resort itself is about 10 miles from Disney and 5 miles from International Dr. / Universal Studios. The location is away from all the touristy areas but within a short driving distance to all the main attractions. The resort is so nice and relaxing be sure to reserve a day to enjoy the grounds. There is 5-star golfing, bike rentals, and fantastic swimming pools. We will definitely be back to enjoy this best kept secret in Orlando!

This was our second time here...and we confirmed this is one of our favorite hotels for just plain relaxation - with great restaurants, food and several wonderful pools on site. Why leave?

We don't enjoy Disney World (rip-off), but this hotel is literally two miles to the entrance of Epcot. It is quiet, well managed, with a great pool, good golf course and easy access to the airport and other attractions. Check the pictures, the pools are pretty spectacular.

The Solara restaurant is one of of our all time favorite hotel restaurants, healthy, well made food, reasonably priced. It has the best breakfast buffet of any hotel we have even been in (and that's a lot of hotels).

Some might be put off by the fact that it's a Conference Center - so it can get busy. But, when there is no conference, you get all the amenities of a big hotel for a great price.

One trick we learned this time, you can park in the back. Parking here is somewhat far from the hotel, so it can be a pain if you don't valet park. There is a parking lot behind the north tower, if you can find it, you can use it.

A truly amazing experience. Everything about this hotel is fantastic - the staff, the pools, the food - everything. More importantly, we had a couple of irritations during our stay (such as the neighbouring room playing loud music at 2.00 in the morning), which were dealt with extremely impressively by the hotel (i.e. Security coming up immediatly and - in no uncertain terms - telling them that they had one chance to be quiet!). We will be going back.

My family just returned from a wonderful four days at the JW Marriott Orlando Grande Lakes. What a beautiful property! It's obvious that Marriott goes to great lengths to keep everything looking perfect. The staff was incredibly helpful and no request was too large or small. The hotel was decorated beautifully for the holidays, and there were plenty of special seasonal activities for the kids, both at the Marriott and the Ritz-Carlton next door. However, two things keep me from calling this a perfect stay. First, the hotel is a bit off the beaten path. It's secluded, which adds to the exclusive atmosphere, but it's a bit frustrating to get back and forth from the hotel to Disney, etc. Also, while we enjoyed the hotel's delicious breakfast buffet each day, we had a less than perfect dinner at the hotel. On the last night of our stay, we decided to try the dinner buffet at Citron. Perhaps because it was a very slow night, the buffet didn't offer many choices, and most were lukewarm. Still, for a hotel of that status, the food should be exemplary no matter how many people are dining that night. We ended up filling our plates with salad (which was very good) and picking at a few desserts.

My family stayed here Dec. 22nd thru 27th and had a great time. We booked on-line with AAA and secured a really great rate. We had a pool view room and I must say that it is the way to go. We were on the 19th floor and could also see Disney and Seaworld fireworks.....which was a treat.

The breakfast buffet had a wide selection of foods and I enjoyed watching the cook make Mickey Mouse shaped pancakes for the kids while waiting for my omelet and waffle at the grill station. My family enjoyed the meals bought at the resort. They were expensive but we were able to offset the cost by having pizza delivered and eating offsite too. We also brought soft drinks to the room which worked fine b/c I paid $4 for a diet coke poolside. We also visited the Ritz and I liked their toddler area better b/c the pirate play ship and splash pool feature were in one spot which is better for the parents. Their lobby had a really neat gingerbread village and a fully functional train.

I had a mani and pedi at the spa and enjoyed it. One family highlight was having S'mores at the fire pit which was complimentary. That was worthwhile. They also offered Santa tuck-ins which was nice, but our son is too old for that...........although he did peek into the hallway to watch Santa and his elf visit a guest on our floor.

All in all ....... it was a really great time and a memorable Christmas holiday!!

Stayed the Thanksgiving week, and found it to be a beautiful property, helpful staff and typical JW Marriott rooms regarding size and cleanliness. I only paid $149 a night per room and had an adjoining room for my two kids. Wow, feel bad for anyone paying $800 a night like the previous poster.

We got our onsite parking comped as we were silver elite members. We did the timeshare thing and received 15,000 marriott points and did not get a hard sell at all...just had to spend a couple hours in the morning to go over the property.

Staff: We had an issue with our tv, and within 5 minutes a technician came to our room and fixed it.

One night we went for sushi in the lounge bar and got there just after 10, but our server still let us order. Nice.

There were no conferences going on during our stay, so we didn't feel the hotel was busy until the weekend came around. We spent one day at the pool, and found the pool service to be prompt, the pool areas clean. There's a full spa that we didn't even try, but it looked nice and is in between the Marriott and Ritz Carlton properties.
Overall, I would return to this hotel as a destination for the area attractions.

My wife and two teenagers stayed at the J.W. Marriott Grande Lakes Dec 2 - 6 2008. We booked a king size bed suite with a adjoining room to a room with two queens beds and that is exactly what we got. I have experienced through out the years where your reservation states one thing but when you arrive, you get something else (not always better)
We have never had a bad visit at the J.W. From the moment we pulled up, the staff bend over backwards to make you happy. From the Car Valets (yes you can grumble that there is no free parking and the price difference between self parking and valet is about $4 a day but when you stay at hotel in this class you should not expect to receive anything for free even though I agree there should be free parking and free internet ) to the Front Desk Staff to the House Keeping Staff - everybody has a "how can I help you" attitude.
Check In was a breeze and the hotel splits the elevators between the ground and 12th floor and then from the 12th to 24th floor. I never had to wait for more than one minute for a elevator
The J.W. is not a cheap hotel but I feel that the hotel is worth the money (even with the charge for parking or the internet) If you like a hotel where service means something then a stay at this J.W. won't be a bad choice.
The suite was large and there was a separate area with a 2nd tv and a pull out couch. The bathroom was big, no bumping into your spouse in there.
The J.W. Grande Lakes has a beautiful pool area that has a wonderful lazy man river where you can float along (of course you have to buy the floating tire to float) for hours and even at night the hot tubs were hot.
The J.W. shares the grounds with the Ritz Carlton and there is a golf course also (not sure if 9 or 18 holes)
My only complaint is that for hotel of this class and price range, why they have to charge for internet when so many other 2 or 3 star hotels don't. If these other hotels don't charge, it just makes the fancy hotels look greedy.
I enjoy staying at the J.W. but I don't know if I would recommend the hotel for people who are solely in Orlando to do Disney and Universal. While Universal is not too far from the J.W. , Disney is farther away and pending on traffic tie ups, after along day with tired kids it can seem forever to get back.
