The Contemporary is one of the hotels where I can definitely say you don't need a car to stay at WDW. Lots of dining options and fun are only a monorail ride away. If you are on a high floor, definitely go out on the north fire escape during the Magic Kingdom fireworks for maybe the best view on the property. We stayed in the main building on the Bay Lake side and had beautiful sunrises over the lake. Every night, the kids wanted to go to the balcony and watch the Electric Light Parade on the lake. The rooms are well appointed and large for a standard hotel room. If you want to splurge a little, the Contemporary is a great place to experience WDW.

Room Tip: Go for the Bay Lake view rather than paying extra for the theme park view and ask for a higher floor

We just stayed at the Contemporary for my daughters 1st visit to Disney. The proximity to Magic Kingdom (5 to 10 minute walk - monorail takes 20 minutes) is great and the viewing for fireworks can't be beat. We sprang for the club level which really helped with breakfast and snacks as we picked the wrong meal plan and ended up paying a lot out of pocket for the character meals. If you plan to do all the princess/character meals I think premium dining is the way to go.
But for the Contemporary Hotel the facility is extremely dated, the rooms were updated but the overall feel is old and in need of a major facelift. It was a little depressing and lacked the "Magic" that Disney is known for. We ended up having to leave as our daughter got sick and we had to extend our stay (they were sold out at the Contemporary)so we transferred to the Grand Floridian. The Grand Floridian is FABULOUS and when we return next year we will stay here!

This is the 1st time we stayed at the Contemporary. We were very excited since we heard so many good things. Our resort room looked like someone did a very FAST remodeling job. You can see the cut out to the bathroom door where the new framework goes and can still see the old paint color around the smoke detector. The sink is so low that our 3 year old think it's made just for him. It was very disappointing to see the lack of "Disney" standard in our room. Another reason for the bad rating is becsuse when we checked in, the front desk forgot to set the limit on our magic band and it was very embarrassing when paying for a $6 item and being told I'm over my limit. For the price of the room it was not worth it for the aggravation.

We stayed at the Contemporary for the 4th (or 5th???) time last week and loved it just as before. We had a room in the garden room area just a short walk from the main building. We did the online check-in and so someone met us as we got off the Disney bus and walked us in and we completed the check-in with just a few quick questions about how we wanted to handle charging food/merchandise to our room.

Room was clean and well cared for during our stay. The only issue is that the bathroom doors slide open/close and don't lock - one child learned that the hard way late one evening when they slid one up to find another child using the facilities. So remember to knock. ;)

Hotel is a short walk from the Magic Kingdom which makes it our favorite resort. The only time you'll need a bus or monorail is when you go to Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, or EPCOT. EPCOT requires a somewhat convoluted trip as you have to take the monorail on the 4th floor to the travel/transportation building and then change monorails.

Our only complaint for the entire week is related to the buses. On the day we went to Hollywood Studios the bus didn't show up for over 30 minutes and by then there was a huge crowd. We jammed the bus full and still left people behind. The same bus was supposed to stop at the Polynesian and had to just drive right by. Coming home that night the buses from the studios said they were going to all three resorts (Contemporary, Polynesian and Grand Flordian). Again the bus was overloaded and again we left people behind. One bus for three resorts isn't enough. Each resort should have it's own buses running.

But a minor quibble as we only got on the buses twice - to hit the studios and to go to Downtown Disney.

We did breakfast one morning at Chef Mickey's. Good breakfast buffet - but way overpriced. It was around $200 for three adults and two children. Unless you want the character experience - eat at the quick service counter right outside. We had that for dinner one evening and it was only about $30 and was tasty.

Wonderful stay and I wish we could afford to do it more often.

We stayed here for a conference and was not going to any of the Disney parks but this hotel is in a great location for those who want to go to Disney. It's directly across the street from the Magic Kingdom (about a 5 minute walk). We had the Tower - Bay Lake View room and it was huge! The bed was super comfy and the room and bathroom was very clean. The staff was very nice and helpful.

From our room, we could see the pool and the lake. Around 10 p.m. there's a boat light show so it can be a little loud if you like going to bed early. On the 4th floor of the hotel is the restaurant area as well as some shops and an outdoor seating area where you can watch the fireworks. There aren't a lot of seats and the tram partially covers the view but each of the floors have a small balcony so we just went to the 5th floor balcony and was able to get a great view of the fireworks and Cinderella's castle.

For such a big hotel and with so many kids around, it was not noisy (except for the boat show).

The only negative I have about this hotel is the costs of food but I am sure it's the same with all the Disney resorts.

Very nice hotel. Clean, comfortable and convenient. We stayed in one of the rooms on the concierge level and found the personal service very helpful. The included buffet was a very nice feature and the view for the fireworks show was fantastic. Restaurants, pools and other amenities were great too. I highly recommend.

I cannot believe they built it. OK it might be contemporary but the only interesting part is that the monorail goes through the middle! Compared with the Grand Floridian. Polynesian or Wilderness Lodge no way could I ever stay there. Sorry Mr Disney.
