“Stay here only as a last resort! Otherwise, run the other way!”
Reviewed 13 March 2011

I went to Bike Week with a friend and we decided to ride to Daytona and then find a room. It's often cheaper to do this. We called the hotel from a local restaurant and they did have a room with two beds left. They gave us what they said was a discounted rate because the room was in their "older" building. Figured we'd give it a whirl. After arriving, we saw that the room was really old; but seemed clean. They had done some very light remodeling (replaced the door to the room, some caulking, etc. It had a new A/C - Heater unit that looked as if some half-blind amputee installed it. But it did work. So far, so good. On our second night, we got home late (around 1 a.m.) and saw the sink overflowed. There was a dead roach that had floated up out of the drain and crap in the sink. The floor was all wet but it was contained to the bathroom. So we went to bed and in the morning, the sink overflowed again and kept on flowing. We called the front desk and maintenance said there was a sewer system backup. After we complained face-to-face with the staff, they didn't charge us for the second night. They explained that this building was remodeled and they've never had all rooms occupied since so they didn't know the plumbing was messed up. Basically, this place is an old, very rough and absolutely not worth $138 a night plus tax. This is a $39 hotel at the most. But during bike week, they gouged us just like everyone else. Stay away from this property unless it is your last resort. If there aren't any rooms anywhere else, then stay here. Otherwise, run away.

I tried posting this review before-but it never seemed to get posted-so here goes again. This is not a 5 star hotel, but is great for families, loved the full size kitchens. It has a great location on the beach. It was being renovated when I was there at the end of January-beginning of February.

I stayed at The Makai Beach Lodge for 3 weeks on business and it was wonderful. I walked into my room and looked out my patio door and the beach was right there, not even 35' away. The staff are awesome and the new owners are really restoring the hotel to its splendor. While I was staying there all of the beds were replaced, all of the guest room doors were being replaced with more new electronic locks. When the new owners are finished with all of the renovations The Makai Beach Lodge is going to be the only place that I will ever stay.
