“Wonderful stay at Royal Floridian.”
Reviewed 20 August 2009

Just returned from a week in a two bedroom fourth floor end unit and we had a great stay. The location is oceanfront, there is underground parking, across the street from a strip mall with TGIF's, Outback and a great little restaurant for breakfast, Peach Valley Cafe. Walgreens is also across the street.

Everything was there that you could possibly need: laundry facilities, stamp machines, coin changer, two computers, big screen tv in sitting area, small indoor pool, hot tub, very clean and warm outdoor pool, Tiki Bar, kiddie pool, mini golf, gas grill, patio tables for dining and more. Ample lounge chairs and plenty of clean towels daily. The staff was great. No problems whatsoever. One day our door lock didn't work and it was literally two minutes until they had service there and the lock was completely replaced.

We were traveling with a 3 and 7 year old and if you are looking for a "kid friendly" hotel that has scheduled activities to keep the little ones happy and busy, this is the place for you. We had a 2b/2bath unit with a kitchen with lots of floor space (not a galley kitchen) and a large master oceanfront bedroom with private bath. My only complaint would be the living room furniture was uncomfortable, as is the case with most, if not all, ocean front properties we have stayed as the concerns about sunscreen on upholstery, etc. but I must say that was the only complaint. Didn't spend much time in the living room anyhow. There are three tv's, one in each bedroom which was nice and one in the living room.

The most important issue with me is safety for me and my family and there was even a security guard on the premises. Everything was clean and far expected my expectations after reading some of the postings.

The only negative is they will be closing at the end of the year for a multi million dollar expansion (52 more rooms) and renovation of the deck areas which took a huge hit over several years with storm after storm and the installation of a larger pool to accommodate the increase in guests.

This location is quiet but Daytona Beach is probably just 4 miles down A1A and that area has definitely become more upscale since my list visit.

Be sure to visit Ponce Inlet Park and walk the lighthouse. Incredible view.

Final word: Don't hesitate to book. You won't be disappointed. Our family definitely will be booking at this location again.

Dont read the bad stuff about this resort not being nice. Is it the Ritz no.. It's clean and they will take care of any issues that you have and you should not worry.. Also, read my post on the forum about this place.

Located on the north end of Ormond beach, All units 1 and 2 bedrooms are oceanfront view. resort has hugh warm inground pool , walkin at one end to 10ft deep in deep end, fish shape, as well as a small kiddie pool right in front of the beach only 50 ft away from the ocean. Accomadations are very nice although some bedrooms are small.
Many resturants all within a 5 minute walk, granada plaza across the street with Outback.TGIF.Peach valley cafe and a nice icecream shop, also across the road a little south of the resort is Stonewood steakhouse, Julians and LULU.s and Billys just past the plaza on the southside.
The resort has a internet room inside beside the elevators and also a fair size indoor pool and whirpool. Mall shopping is in Daytona Beach about 15 minutes south of the resort (Volusa mall) across the street from the Indy 500 speedway.
You won't find a nicer location for a beachfront resort, new/clean safe area for walking around. Located in a richer area of town with multi-million dollar home to the north and along beach rd either side of the bridge.

Once again the Royal Floridian has made our vacation one to remember. When we arrived it was just like meeting old friends, they made us feel at home every minute we were their. As last year we attened 2009 Daytona Bike Week, the loacation to all the activities is great. We found new places to eat, new roads to ride and met new friends. They have around the clock security to keep you and your car and motorcycle safe. Infact the entire area is well lite and safe to walk. The underground parking is a big plus to keep your bike clean and dry. Pool was nice and warm squeeky clean and open till midnight. Just like last year the staff at The Royal Floridian made our stay go to fast.
Due to a major renovation project in 2010 the resort will be closed for most of 2010. But we are looking forward to 2011 when the resort will reopen to a new look.

After reading the reviews from various sources, we expected the worst- but were pleasantly surprised. The rooms were a bit older, but still nice and the location itself was awesome. We used our timeshare trade and got a two bedroom deluxe and also got a studio for our older teens. Maybe they were a bit small, but they both had an incredible ocean view. Probably the biggest complaint came from the kids because there were lots of senior citizens using the same week as us. The pool is very nice and incredibly warm. Our kids rented surf boards and really had a great time- and we did drive to Orlando for a few theme parks also. There is no restaurant so if you are into eating out lots, you may be disappointed, but we used the grill and went out to nearby places a few times. Daytona is just down the road and honestly, I didn't see any resorts that were much better except for maybe the Hilton. Don't believe all the negative reviews- go and have a great time, just don't expect an exclusive resort feel.

I have been an owner here for ten years. It used to be nice, with bargain dinners at the Tiki hut and karaoke on Sundays by the outdoor pools. The clientelle used to be high-class, with people that you would want to spend your vacation around. Now it's all changed. First of all, you cannot book a room here. Especially if you are an owner. I pay $1000's a year to stay here, and they tell me I cannot book a night more or less than 2 weeks notice. How can I plan a family vacation with only two weeks and that doesn't even guarantee that I will get a room? Once I get through this battle, and if you are new you don't have to go through this but you will eventually, then they give you a small and dirty room. I have found lingerie in my bed on two separate visits! Then not only are the rooms always dirty, then they give you a list of things to clean yourself or you are charged a $100 fee! The pools are usually closed, the tiki bar overpriced and closed alot, and nasty people now stay there. The clientelle has drastically gone downhill. Vacationing around shady ghetto people who cant afford to be there and who are only there b/c they got a free night does not appeal to me. I no longer feel safe there and it has also caused everyone's fees to drastically go up! It's simple business but the management has messed that up. They give free vacations to those who cannot afford to buy, at the cost of people like me who have been paying our dues for years (over ten for me), b/c we cannot get a room. Then these people don't make their payments, and we have to make up the difference! The location is beautiful but you are better off staying at a nicer place on the same beach. There are many of them that are reasonably priced that will give you much more than these people. Oh, by the way, check out is at ten am, which doesn't sound like a big deal...until you are woken up by a staff member pounding at your door at 6 am to make sure you are awake to do your cleaning duties and check out on time. This sounds too crazy to be true, but not only do I have witnesses to this event, but I have only given you half of my story!

We purchased our timeshare in Feb 08. We took our vacation in Aug. 08. You know, right when the big storms were ending! The room was ok. We werent in it much. It did have what we needed such as stove, microwave etc. Problems: The indoor pool was closed most of the time. Always a reason such as a kid put something in it etc. The indoor hot tub was the same. First someone put something in it. Then no heat, then too much chlorine. AND.. for the first 31/2 days of our vacation, the outdoor pool was closed! They couldnt get the chemicals right in it. someone called the health dept, so they closed it. Funny thing is..we checked all along the beach, and every other pool was open at the other hotels. Why couldnt Royal Floridian get their pool clean? Also, On the 3-4th day, they offered to let us go down the street and swim in another hotels pool. We didnt stay at the other hotel! Why didnt they just get someone else to clean the pool and get the chemical level right? The more they added chemicals, the worse it got! When we (and others) complained, the staff acted as if we were bothering them. 7 day vacation, no pool! Couldnt swim in the ocean, the waves were terrible from the storm. Putt putt golf course was full of water all the time. Pool table no working most of time. NOTHING TO DO AT ALL WHEN IT RAINED OUTSIDE! Im thinking we made a bad investment. No indoor or outdoor pool. no hot tub. no game room. no adult activities. Oh, and let me mention, they dont give you clean sheets all week. We asked for clean sheets after the 2nd day at the desk. They said they would bring some. Never did. And we practically had to give blood to get clean towels every day. House keeping doesnt give you clean ones every day. You have to ask for them constantly!

  • Liked — right on the ocean
  • Disliked — closed out door pool. closed and dirty indoor pool and hot tub. No indoor adult activities. no clean sheets
