I stayed at Gulfgate Condos for a week in condo #505. I called three properties managed by the same company.
First the general observations... I spoke with Anna at Gulfgate on the phone and she was very pleasant and helpful. So was Marie at Pelican Walk. Booking was a piece of cake! I checked in late and was still able to get in to my condo after the office closed with no problem. The condo opened with a keypad code. Never had to worry about keeping or losing a key! Awesome, especially when you have beach chairs, coolers, etc to carry! Also has luggage carts for check-in and out.The elevators ran perfectly. Never a long wait in July! The elevator even talks to you! The maintenance guy was on-site and speedy! The patio door was hard to open. I went down to the office for assistance and he came up with me right then! He also came up to check a leak under the sink the day I checked out.
The condo complex is right on the beach! Literally! You go down to the main level, walk through a very short breezeway where the pool is located, and your feet are in the sand! Its located right in the middle of the long stretch of Panama City beaches. You can walk for miles in either direction. There are 2 hoses for rinsing off when you return. I also walked on the street area/sidewalk a few days and it was great! I walked through the neighborhood and out to Thomas Rd. Several folks were out walking in the morning. It was great!
This is the perfect location if you don't want to be in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Front Beach Rd. Great for singles or couples who want quiet. The beach wasn't overcrowded though the beach chair rentals take the front spots. It's close enough that you don' have to go far to reach everything. A new Walmart is right at the corner of Thomas Rd. and Front Beach Rd. Beach shops are a block or so from the condo. Lots of restaurants around. Nothing like night beach in Panama City Beach! You could stay outside overnight. Just enough light to feel safe. Dark enough for walking, relaxing, etc...
Unit #505 was nice. Air conditioning really works! It was very clean. Nice furnishings. Big closet with boardgames stocked. All condos have a balcony facing the beach. It was nice being on the top floor. Great washer/dryer and fridge/freezer. Though its a 1 bedroom condo, it has a king bed, a queen sofa sleeper, a love seat and a great recliner which I actually slept in several nights right in front of a big 44 inch Samsung flat-screen tv in the living room. There's also a small flat-screen in the bedroom.
The pool was a bit small for the number of guests. Its a small rectangular pool located under the building beneath the breezeway, which was a good indoor/outdoor feel, but if swimming laps or sitting in the sun around the pool is your thing, forget it. We got in once late at night. It does have table and chairs on two sides of it, but only one side is in the sun. There are reclining chairs & tables on the outdoor deck area.
The metal chairs on the patio of #505 need to be replaced ASAP! If you haven't had a tetanus shot, you better not go out on that patio! There were shards of rusty metal that fell of the chairs and littered the patio floor! DO NOT GO OUT THERE BAREFOOT! Make sure you sweep this stuff to the side. There were two other plastic Adirondack chairs and small tables as well as a larger plastic table. I repeat...GET RID OF THOSE CHAIRS! (Note: This is not a deal breaker) Also, figure out how to loosen that sliding patio door. We needed to use both hands full-force and become a weightlifter to get it open each time. And...replace the bath rug. I would suggest not getting off-white next time.
It would have been nice to have more than 1 1/2 rolls of toilet paper, some paper towels and a travel sized laundry detergent pack. The cost would be minimal in comparison to what the renter pays for the property.
Overall, great stay!
