“Fun in the sun”
Reviewed 8 October 2009

This resort was the nicest place to stay. Everyone on the staff has a smile and greets you - from the staff just walking in the hall to the desk personnel. The room was great - big kitchen with all the appliances, dishes and serving ware you would need. The view faced the Gulf of Mexico with its clear water and gentle waves. The pool area was clean and kept up nicely. I did have a small objection to people taking their infants and toddlers into the hot tub. I chose not to go into the hot tub after soggy diapers were in there. The afternoon games by the resort kept people entertained, but the music was a little loud. All-in-all, this was a great vacation and the resort was really a great place to stay.

The resort is nice and clean with great decor and great pools. The parking garage is a little tight, well it is just plain small!
We did not have any of the stair/escalator/sky bar trouble that were in previous reviews. We were there M-F. It was just not that big of a deal.
The condo had a great view of the ocean, it was spacious and clean. We were missing a broom but when I called guest serivces it was brought right up. I would recommend this resort to families. The pools by check-in were great and fun for kids! As far as Panama City Beach goes, a little more of a party atmosphere than I like. Thank goodness we checked out July 3rd right before all the holiday travelers came in! Loud teenagers and stereo systems all day and night on the strip.

My family stayed at the Wyndham for a week in May after the kids got out of school. We drove to Florida from Illinois and were interested in a relaxing beach vacation where the kids could play all day on the beach. We arrived late in the afternoon and did not have any issues checking in. We were actually upgraded in our room selection which was great. The Wyndham is right on the main strip in Panama City Beach and consists of the high rise with a walk bridge across the road to where you check in, park in their deck or parking lot, and where the kiddie pool is located.

Once you check in you have to drive across the main strip and make more or less a u-turn into the loading/unloading lane of the high rise room side of the complex. Luckily this was after the spring break crowd came and went so the traffic was not bad to cross both directions. I would have hated to try to cross these lanes to get to the other side during the crowded season.

The Wyndham had carts available for luggage and such. We definitely needed them as we drove with a full car of beach toys, food to cook, luggage, games, etc. When we travel on a driving trip we have a packed car bringing everything but the kitchen sink along! There did not seem to be much help standing about waiting to help unload cars. So are some points there were 3-5 cars waiting in line to unload. Again, if it was a more busy time you might have waited longer. My wife and kids took the carts up to the room as I went in search of parking.

The parking deck is back across the street where you check in at. It is a fine parking deck as long as you don't have a large or oversized vehicle. The Wyndham offers an open parking lot behind the parking deck for large SUVs, oversize vehicles, those with toppers, etc. There is no charge for parking in this open lot. I don't know if they charged for parking in the deck as we had a large SUV with topper that would not fit in the deck. The open lot is adequate but poorly lighted and basically a dirt lot. We were apprehensive about parking back in this dark lot and walking from it at night. We found out the first night that the valet is complimentary which I think most do not know. So from then on we had valet take the car and they, not wanting to walk all the way back from the back lot, placed the SUV in their reserved spots each night that are just around the corner from check-in. That worked well.

The Wyndham could have used a store in it. While there is a convenience store next door we would have liked a small store to buy basics at when needed. The Starbucks was there and open all the times we walked by. We did not understand the Sky Bar in the cross walk over the road. It was never open. We were there 5 days and it was never open. It looked very nice with TVs and tables/chairs setup, but never open. We are not sure what their intention was with this area.

The elevators are slow and people were waiting a lot of the time. We got a room on the second floor and used the easily accessible stairs instead of the elevators each day which worked out great.

We found the room to be great. With 3 kids and all their stuff we had plenty of room. We were on the second floor right above the pool. The view of the beach and pool area was great. Though we would have liked to been maybe 1 floor up as to not feel people were looking in all the times, but we were not going to live with the curtains closed all the time so we got used to it. Maintenance did come the first day to fix a stuck door to the balcony but that was a non-issue. Most of the unit had tile floor except the bedrooms. We found we were wearing flip flops all the time as sand got tracked in and out al day long. We eventually got the vacuum out and ran it over the tile to pick up some of the sand. We were supposed to get a 'mid week' cleaning per the room description but no one ever came. We had plenty of towels so it was not an issue. The room also came with huge beach towels which we used daily.

We cooked in for breakfast and lunch each day which saved a lot of money and allowed us to come and go to the beach easily. There are enough grocery stores in the area to get whatever you need. The kitchen was a bit lacking in utensils. We found we had to wash them each day to have enough. We would recommend to the hotel adding more measuring cups, cooking utensils, etc. But there was enough to get by.

The room came with a washer and dryer. We used these constantly. It was great to wash sandy beach wear each day and to go home with luggage full of clean clothes. The layout for where the washer/dryer was at was a bit tight but it worked.

We found all the rooms to be adequate and comfortable. Our eldest took the second bedroom where he got his own bed. He thought that was great. Our 2 younger boys took the bunk beds and they too thought they were great. The master bedroom had plenty of room and the bed was comfortable. We had a huge bathroom with whirl pool tub, but never got to use it. The master bedroom had it's own door to the balcony which we kept open all the time even when sleeping. Being so close to the pool we did have to put up with the noise of chairs being arranged each morning, but we got over it. The shower in the second bathroom was slow to drain. So you would end up with sand all in the bottom after it slowly drained. I believe another reviewer stated the same issue. The master bathroom had a tiny leak under the cabinet, but we simply put a bowl in the cabinet and moved on. It was not an issue, nor did the kids complain about the slow drain.

The beach and pools were loved by our kids. We did not use the kiddie pools across the street that are located by check-in and the parking deck. These seem to be a waste as they were always empty. We were surprised at the number of people always at the main pool by the beach. It is probably too small and was always crowded. We used it the first night we arrived as it was too late to go to the beach. Kids still loved it and played in it for a while. When we go on a beach vacation we spend the time at the beach and not the pool which is why we were surprised at so many people at the pool. We rented chairs and an umbrella at the beach which is highly recommended. You can rent them for a week and they are reserved with a number only for you. Definitely worth the money not to drag chairs to the beach or lay in the sand. The kids loved the beach and played all day long collecting shells, building castles, burying each other, and boogie boarding. There was some seaweed that would come and go but nothing causing a show stopper. We did feel the hotel could have cleaned the beach in front of their hotel each day to remove some of the washed up seaweed. We have seen this done on other beaches before.

Overall the trip was great, relaxing, and the kids loved it. We have no huge complaints regarding the Wyndham and think the hotel is great. We booked using points from Hilton and converted them to RCI so we did not 'technically' pay for our stay. We thought the hotel was well worth it, in a great location, and would definitely return to the Wyndham again.

The hotel did not have a fitness center which was surprising, but they stated they had one planned along with another tower being built now next to the existing tower.

A note about the internet....the hotel has free plug in access in the rooms. Starbucks has Wifi. We could not get the Wifi to work in our room or balcony even though our laptop was showing some available. We thought there should be Wifi in the rooms as well.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Wyndham for 6 days while we were in PCB with my sister and her husband (who opted not to stay at the Wyndham). We are all between 32 and 38 years of age, and were seeking a relaxing beach vacation. Luckily, we were there the week after all the spring break traffic was over, so it was not hectic from that standpoint. I have been to PCB about 20 times throughout my life, and have stayed at many different beachfront condos. While we love the beaches of PCB, I have to say that the Wyndham was not my favorite. Last year we stayed at the Shores of Panama, and without question, the Shores far surpassed the Wyndham. They are not even comparable properties in my opinion. The Wyndham was indeed very clean, has a great location on the strip, all rooms are oceanfront, etc. I was always impressed with how hard the staff worked to keep the property in order and extraordinarily shiny and kept. Yet, the layout and quality of the resort is what left much to be desired. First, I didn't care for the beach side pool area at all. It was very stark, far too small for the hotel, hot tub was overrun with little kids, and the entrance to the pool area is through the basement of the resort. They do have a second pool, yet it is a kiddie pool, and it's located across the street by the parking garage. We had no interest in pursuing that. Additionally, the one bedroom guest rooms all had the bedroom in the back of the condo. Since you have to keep the curtains closed at all times, unless you want people to walk past your room and see you, I felt as if I was sleeping in a cave. We were fine with amenities in the room, however the quality of the room was not up to par. Our shower was a major issue, as it didn't drain at all. After spending entire days on the beach, and being covered in sand, sun screen, etc. it was disgusting to try and take a shower, only to ultimately be left wading around in 4-5 inches of filthy water that took about 25 minutes to drain. Also, while there is granite in the kitchen, everything else in the room was of extremely cheap quality. I will agree with a former reviewer who said the Wyndham is all "smoke and mirrors" because it appears to be very nice from the surface, yet once you have the opportunity to really look at the property, you notice it was cheaply thrown together. Other con's; check in was somewhat of a mess. They had absolutely no record of our reservation-none! This was shocking considering we had made the reservation (and paid in full) 4.5 months in advance. Thank goodness I brought all of my paperwork and was able to secure our room. Additionally, the elevators are a problem as others had reported. Almost always one set was down, creating really long wait times for the working lifts. The amenities that the resort brags about are really a non-issue; the Skybar isn't open daily and was basically just a huge empty area that everyone walks past as they are traveling to and from the parking garage. No attraction there. We tried to go to the Starbucks twice during our stay and both times it wasn't open. We were there after 7:00 AM, and they were closed! What kind of Starbucks isn't open early in the morning? Parking was fine for us, and the walk across the sky bridge to the other set of elevators was also a non-issue. Yet I can see how for families with little kids or the elderly, it would be a major issue. Finally, when I went to print our boarding passes for the trip home, of course there was no paper in the printer. There was also no paper in the drawer that said "printer paper" nor was there anyone available to help. I ended up printing our boarding passes on the back of some paper I had in my PCB reservation/confirmation folder that I brought from home. All that said, I still have to mention the price, and this is why I say you get what you pay for. My husband and I booked the round trip flight from Milwaukee, and six nights in the hotel for about $900.00 total. It was a really good deal from the monetary standpoint. However, in the future, I will, without question, pay more in order to stay at the Shores again. The Shores is simply a far better property, with an absolutely gorgeous pool area. It has much more of a "resort" feel and the layout can't be beat with the parking structure literally attached to the property.

We (husband and two grown children) stayed at Wyndham Panama City Beach Vacation Resort from 5/8/09 to 5/15/09. My parents are Wyndham owners and had given us a week to use and we selected this resort for it location. We had a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom deluxe unit which was on the 6th floor, so we weren't up so high that we couldn't enjoy the the view of the beach and the sounds of the gentle surf from our balcony. We were expecting the king bed in the master bedroom (which was huge, with bay window and direct access to balcony) and the queen bed in second bedroom, and has assumed our son would have to sleep on the pull out couch. When we first entered the unit we found a set of bunk beds located in an alcove right inside the front door, so that worked for him. The unit was very spacious and everything was in excellent condition. The kitchen had granite counter tops, all the accessories you'd need for cooking and serving, pantry space, and a stacked washer/dryer unit. Dish detergent, dishwasher soap packets, 2 laundry soap packets, a roll of paper towels, extra trash bags, and even s couple of coffee packets and microwave popcorn were provided. Also, the kitchen came with kitchen towels, wash clothes, and hot pads.
The dining table seated 6 and the living room had a couch and one side chair. There was a nice flat screen TV and DVD player. Best of all, the whole of one wall in the living room was picture window and sliding glass doors. The view from the balcony was wonderful and we enjoyed sitting out there both for breakfast and to watch the sun set. Because the sliding doors are hurricane proof they are very heavy, and in fact our second night there when trying to close them the handle broke off. When we informed the front desk, they had someone up there to replace it with a stronger handle (apparently they weren't originally fitted for the stronger handle that can handle the weight of the door as the repair guy said this is not the first time this has happened) within an hour and we had no other problems.
The master bedroom had it's own flat screen TV, a large walk in closet and wonderful view out the bay window. The master bath had a corner jacuzzi tub, dual sinks, and separate shower stall. Everything was very clean except there was just a touch of mildew around the bottom grout of the shower. Hotel size bottles of shampoo, conditioner, lotion, body wash, mouthwash and bar soap were provided in both bathrooms. The second bedroom also had a TV and it had a queen bed. The hall bathroom had a shower/tub combination and just the one sink. Both bathrooms had plenty of towels for the week (we had no maid service) and we also discovered there were blue and white striped towels for use on the beach or at the pools which was great. Each bathroom also had a hairdryer in the drawer.
The public areas were all very nice and new looking. We didn't get a chance to enjoy the Sky Bar (in the walkway over the street connecting to parking garage) but is was very urban in look and feel, but it wasn't open every night. We never had a problem finding a parking spot in the garage and it was nice not having your car sit in a parking lot in the hot sun all day. Check is was very easy and they were all very nice.
The beach was great - very soft white sand. The ocean varied slightly from day to day - sometimes there was a little seaweed, some days not, and most of the time the water was very calm. Wyndham contracts with an independent vendor to provide beach chairs you can rent by the hour, day or week. Each chair set is a pair of connected wooden slat chairs with cushions and a large umbrella. We rented one set for 6 days and then brought a couple chairs of our own. They charged $5/hour, $25/day, or we got 6 days for $125. Note, they only take cash or credit card, and if you pay cash they don't charge the tax but because I paid with credit card I had to pay $10 tax.
We didn't use the pool much as we like the beach, but did use the beach side pool a couple of times and it's larger in person than it looked in the pictures. The side by side pools across the street were also very nice and there is a fourth pool on top of the parking garage but it wasn't open when we were there.
We ate several dinners at Pier Park (Margaritaville, Reggae J's, Back Porch, Red Brick Pizza) as it was only a couple of miles away, and also ate at Sharky's and Barefoot Beach Bar, all good meals.
We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it both for it's location and the great condition of the whole resort.

My husband and I truly enjoyed our week at the Wyndham Emerald Beach Resort in Panama City, Florida. The one bedroom unit was very spacious and the kitchen had very high end appliances. The two full baths in the one bedroom was a nice touch, We really enjoyed listening to the pounding of the surf from our sixth floor terrace. The concierge was very helpful in terms of restaurant recommendations. It was a great week and we would definitely recommend a stay there.
