Great place to go shopping, enjoy the outdoors and bring the kids. The view you get from the road (98) you wouldn't guess the paradise in the middle. It has tons of stores to shop and even more places to eat. The thing that got me was the rides for kids in the middle of all of this. A ferris wheel, the sea dragon, a carousel and a butterfly exhibit which was unfortunately closed when we went. My 2 year old daughter enjoyed the carousel and the train ride down the road, which could have been longer for the price we paid, ($5 each for my wife and daughter) I would've assumed my 2 year old would have been free. Once you pass all of the stores and restaurants you can cross the street and make it to the board walk and go on the beach. If you want to go on the pier there is a fee. I don't recall how much but found it ridiculous and would rather walk on the beach for free.
One thing I like to keep in mind is the time of year you go, as a local I like to go when it isn't Spring Break and when most of the tourists are gone. There are plenty of security and police around but there are "young locals" roaming around with their loud cars that need their mufflers replaced that make it unpleasant as you have to cross quite a few crosswalks. If you have a kid be careful because most of the cars don't know how to yield to pedestrians and most were tourists as I saw their license plates. Enjoy!
