We were really looking forward to our stay at the Sandpiper Beacon, but what a disappointment it was!

First of all, I would like to thank you for only billing me 3 of the minimum 4 days, as my father in law died just a couple of days before our stay at the Sandpiper Beach Resort. This was a real nice gesture from your side.
The check-in procedure was unfriendly and almost rude. We were told to wear these plastic bracelets but it never got clear why we had to wear them (we saw many people walking around on the premises without the bracelet, using the "facilities").

When we got to our room it was a huge disappointment. There was a strange smell in the room, the kitchen was old (stove was from the eighties and dirty, the cupboards were almost falling apart and even though we booked a 6-person room it only had cutlery, plates and cups for 4 persons and there was only place for two on the balcony). Then our eye fell on the most disgusting thing in the room: “The Couch”. The couch had the weirdest spots on it (must have been used for many other purposes then only sitting on it), smelled and looked disgusting. Most likely the couch was really great when it was brand new in the 70’s, but as it was made of same kind of fabric that cannot be cleaned, which made it really disgusting in 2014.

We arrived with two children (4 and 6 year old) in our party and as the Sandpiper Beacon Beach Resort does not have the “cheap motel rates”, but ask over 250 USD per night, we had the highest expectations of our stay (especially since the Sandpiper Beacon Beach Resort advertises with beautiful pictures on their website as try to be a real family hotel). The kids amused themselves on the beach, until the other guests in the Sandpiper Beach Resort woke up around 13.30. The Sandpiper Beacon Beach Resort is mostly used by teenagers, who drink tequila in broad daylight, play loud music and misbehave. All of this is fine and I even used to do that myself as well (light years ago…), but then you should not advertise your resort as a family friendly hotel.

We decided to leave the beach for what it was and our kids used “the facilities” (two old pools with some slides). Even though they only used the pool for a maximum of 30 minutes, both my daughters had an eye infection the day after they used the pool.
That is when we decided to leave the Sandpiper Beacon Beach Resort after only 2 of the original 4 nights. At check-out, the guy at the reception noticed we were leaving a day early and said he could not refund our money for the 3’th night but could give a “credit” for our next stay. When I kindly refused he was not surprised and did not even ask why we were leaving a day early (they must be used that people leave a night early…).

Overall this hotel is only recommendable to teenagers who want to party and if you are looking for a nice family style vacation, please do not even consider staying at the Sandpiper Beacon Beach Resort.

Room Tip: Book at another hotel!

We have stayed here before in 2012 in a waterfront room which was nice! The hotel was great because of the family activities they had going on each day which we enjoyed! This time June 2014 we were very disappointed! Our room was very small and the beds were not queen size like promised! We paid $144 a night with no view when on their website it says $129 a night. Some nights there were drunk underage kids running around knocking on doors and screaming at 3AM. We left a day early because my nephew cut open his head on their waterslide. The staff that got us to the urgent care was great but once we went in the lobby to speak with someone about the accident on their slide, they acted like it wasn't a big deal. Concerning my nephew had to get three staples, it was a big deal. But they did refund me for the one night since we left early. We plan to visit Florida again in November but still unsure if we will stay here again.

Our vacation this year was planned around having our granddaughter with us, she is 8 years old. Lots of activities for children. Our room was extremely nice and very clean. The entire facility was kept very clean all the time. Staff very friendly.

Room Tip: we were on 2nd floor overlooking the beach

We have now stayed here 2 years in a row. We love it. They have everything you would want as a family. Our kids love the big yellow slide! Robert H is the best. All the staff are great with people. Will be back next year!

The lady working at the lobby was very rude when we try to get our room.
the cleaning crew is very efficient and friendly.
The location is Great.
I love because is a pet friendly environment and about a mile down the street you can find a dog's beach.

Old, dirty, bugs, noise, over crowded, over priced!! The pictures posted on their site are not at all what you will find when you arrive! I reviewed the rating on trip advisor and felt ok with the rating and pictures ,so I booked a room with a non refundable deposit of half the total cost. I was horrified when we arrived with what I saw! I expected a family friendly place that my teenagers could enjoy. I was afraid to let them out of my site! Drinking and drugs were everywhere! The hotel is run down and disgusting . With no other options since a large part of our budget was already taken we decided we would only be there to sleep... So we would deal with it. I would highly recommend to find another place if you want to relax and be able to sleep. The noise of neighbors and the a/c was terrible. If you choose to stay here please keep all items that you value on you are locked in your car. The staff will steal anything, even when we told them we did not need house keeping . We exchanged the towels on our own because we had been advised about theft . Still they managed to sneak in the last night we were there when we went to the beach for pictures and stole medication that was buried in my suitcase. I contacted the office , which showed no concern . I filed a police report. The police were familiar with a problem with people entering rooms and stealing items. I checked with BBB and there are other cases like mine. Please do not stay here and find a SAFE place to stay! I am a Florida native and have been to almost every beach and tons of hotels and condos and I never experienced such a horrible place!

Room Tip: Find another hotel!!
