“Great Campground with Fantastic Beachfront”
Reviewed 30 April 2012

Maybe some of the other reviewers were looking for a hotel, but this is a campground. It's got some cabins but the main thrust is the area for RV's and tents. There is a nice clubhouse with several tables and chairs as well as a TV. The laundromat is located next to the bathrooms, which are excellent for campsite bathrooms. The showers are home-quality, with great pressure. Everything is kept clean and neat. RV spots come with full power, sewage, cable TV and water hookups. Tent sites are more rustic, without power or water. They do come with a firering and a picnic table, and there are sufficient shade trees for tent placement. Since this site is on NAS Pensacola, all the visitors are either active duty or retired. People are very friendly, and the staff is very helpful. The beach is mere steps away, and it's basically a private beach. We spent all morning on the beach and only saw one other couple. The Pensacola Lighthouse is about 1/4 mile away and is well worth the visit. Rates for the 8 tent sites are $6/night for military and $7/night for DOD. There are 51 RV sites renting for $23-29/night with some sites available for long term rental (up to three months). There are also the cabins, but I would advise bringing either an RV or a tent for this stay.

Room Tip: We stayed in the tent sites. 1, 4, 5, or 8 would be the best sites - they are on the ends and you d...

The cabins cost 100 a night, for a one bedroom suite. The bedroom had two beds in it, I think they were fulls, maybe queens. The beds were sunken in, which made for a lousy night of sleep.
The location was great, you could walk right to the beach in about 100 yards. If plan on just staying there at the beach, swimming and fishing, this is your place.
The main room had the TV and kitchen all in one. It was clean and family friendly. There was one problem with the bedroom, you couldn’t close the door unless you moved the bed a few inches out of the way. It was kind of a weird set up.
Some of the downsides was no laundry in the unit, or free wi-fi. Wi-fi was available for $8 a day, 15 for the week. There is a small laundry mat down the road. There is a check in procedure when you go into the cabin, they go over a checklist. When you check out, you have to clean it. That means take out all trash, sweep, wipe down everything.
There is no maid service. You can go up the road an exchange towels and stuff on a one-for-one bases.
The service was so-so. Although the view is great, you will not sleep at night because the beds were terrible. Also, there was just one tv, compared to two at the Navy Gateway inn down the street.
A night or two is ok here, but we couldn’t sleep well so it was kind of a downer. Also, if you need to get out fast, you have to clean everything first. Including taking the linen off of the beds. Maybe you will like it. We did a first, but after two days we decided to check out. If you’re a true camper at heart, you will probably like this place. The Oaks does have a good web site with all of their information, check it out.
BTW, they are located close to the lighthouse, museum, and Navy Lodge. Give me a thumbs up if this was helpful.

Room Tip: We stayed in unit 9, but I think all of the units were pretty good. Units 1-8 looked like them may h...

The campground is a wonderful place to get away for a vacation in the RV or rent a cabin. The service has become non people freindly and very heavy handed. Always moving people around. Some how this place has lost the freindly nature it used to have. Makes the military look like the people serve it and not serving people. What a change from what we used to be.

I, like the previous person read the reviews about Oak Grove Cabins and was amazed at the very negative review written about this place. My family and I are now retired from the Air Force. I first came in contact with Oak Grove when I was sent to attend a school at Corry Station just outside NAS Pensacola. It was during the summer and I decided to take the whole family with me. We checked into the Oak Grove Cabins and fell in love with the place. We have since returned 7 times for our annual vacation. I will grant that the cabins are not 5 star hotel quality. The beds are old but the sheets are clean, the Bathrooms are hugh and its super quiet. The entire beach seems to be your private beach. Its not crowded at all. The view is wonderful and since you are on a military installation you dont have to worry about your safety. Being in the military has taught me that simple things can mean a lot. Oak Grove Cabins may be simple but its beauty is in its simplicity. I have reservations made for June of 2010 already.

My family stayed at Oak Grove Campground and Cottages at Pensacola Naval Air Station Dec 24-26. We had a waterfront RV site and a two-bedroom cottage. After reading a negative review I was prompted to write about our very positive feelings about Oak Grove. We used it for our family Christmas reunion. The entire site is very well-maintained, quiet and in a beautiful setting with the beach on site. Although we had foggy weather, we could walk on the beach, and area around the campground and the Naval Air Museum was within walking distance. Guaranteed our weather was better than in many parts of the country. The RV site was spacious. The 2 bedroom cottage was very clean and well-appointed. It was not luxurious but very nicely and newly refurbished. Everything was in good order. Our group had ages 12-78--
eleven total, and we all enjoyed our stay.

My family and I stayed at this site to be close to and visit our son at the Naval Station, what a mistake!

Besides the bugs, small cramped quarters, saggy beds, smelly linens, and stale air conditioning there really was no benefit in staying here. For $20 more, I could have had a 3/3 condo on the water in Pensacola Beach!

If you going to visit with a loved one on the base, stay off the base! The kids do not want to be there any longer then they have to, and will beg you to stay off site; listen to them!
