Traveled 8/14-8/19/13 and stayed on the 5th floor of the new South Tower.
Top notch employees with valet and front desk. The pool was nice and the gym had a little of the basics. Things that didn't work so well: did not received house keeping on 2 of the days which I had to call down to front desk, paid for the room 100% online and still was charged for 2 nights at checkout but was reversed, 25.00 per day for valet is beyond me, and the biggest question I have...paying to use lounge/beach chairs by the beach (12.00 - 100.00)?? Felt like you got nickeled and dimed to death on amenaties.

Two things to know up front: new hotel and mandatory valet parking at $25/day

Our experience with the poor service at this hotel started right with check-in. I requested a high floor for a better view and they dd not have one available even though we checked in on a Thursday. Also, it took almost 25 minutes for them to check us in because they had to release a room and had problems. NOTE: credit to the manager on duty who gave us two breakfast vouchers. If that had been the only issue, all would have been forgiven but it was only the beginning.

The next day when we were arriving back from being out, the valet told us that because my wife used a wheelchair that we did not have to use the valet service and could park in the disabled spot just outside the entrance. All well but we had already had to use the service for a day and a half which was very inconvenient (mandatory valet is a pain anyway - why can't i be optional - just a way to get more $$ in my opinion). He told us he would have it taken off our bill. More later on that.

The next day I called down and requested additional towels. After about 20 minutes they had not come and we had one of our teens ready to shower, so I found someone on staff who helped us get a couple of towels. However, the ones I called for never came.

The following morning at breakfast we were seated and had to ask for a server because no one had come to help us for about 10 minutes. That night when we returned the disabled spots were taken so the valet told us to just leave the car in one of the adjacent valet spots and they would move it later. He asked if I left the keys in and I told him yes. The next morning (yes, overnight), when we went to get the car and asked for the keys they told us they did not have them. We realized they never moved the car so our keys had been in the ignition the whole night with the car unlocked!

Finally, when we received our bill for checkout, the valet charges were all still there. So I had to go down and ask for them to be taken off. Thankfully the stay had ended.

Sadly, every single person we encountered at the hotel was so very friendly and a pleasure. But all the friendliness in the world can't overcome that much poor service. If they didn't have their act together, they should have delayed the opening. The poor word of mouth will kill them.

I cannot recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Make sure you get the south side of the north tower if you are in that building; much better views of beach plus pool

We experienced top notch customer service from the moment we got out of our car! The staff were very friendly and accommodating. This quickly started with Izel who helped us with our luggage and escorted us to the front desk. We asked for an oceanfront view and was promptly checked in. He escorted us to our room at which time my husband requested a room with a better oceanfront view. Izel immediately got on the phone to the front desk to address the situation. He waited with us for a response during which time he was very courteous, and friendly. We did have to go back to the front desk (no problem), where Rich Hess handled the problem swiftly and professionally with a smile on his face. Izel stayed with us the entire time and helped us to our new room which was PERFECT!! We had a great view of the pool and beach. He called down to Rich to let him know how pleased we were with the room (as Rich requested). Hands down we were highly impressed with the EXCELLENT customer service we received in the short time since our arrival. But, it just continued at that level our entire stay. We were blown away with how the staff remembered our names when they saw us (one gentlemen went so far as to remember the color shirt my husband had on when we arrived).Whenever we saw Rich he always asked if everything was to our liking (which it was). We officially met Falencia ( who was part of the hotel staff) on our last day. But whenever we saw her before that she was always very friendly to us. Janea and Wayne at the pool area were also terrific. Janea went so far as to put on some music to "jam" to while laying out at the pool...lol. They made sure the area stayed clean, the lounge chairs had towels on them and took our drink orders. They were not only great with us, but with everyone around. The hotel facilities were lovely. Everything was very, very clean. There was always staff around working to keep everything aesthetically pleasing and smelling fresh. We did not eat at the hotel as we had scheduled dining at various restaurants in the area. We did utilize the bar service which was somewhat slow at times. Also, the elevators were small. But we took it in stride. As I mentioned above, we loved our room with the great view of the pool and beach and nice décor. We were pleased with how the maid service cleaned our room and kept it stocked with towels (nice and thick) and toiletries. The beach area was fantastic! The chairs w/cushions, and umbrella provided by the rental company were great quality. Edwin did a great job setting up the chairs and umbrella for us! My husband and daughter went jet skiing down the beach from the hotel. Great father and son (Matt) owned business. They had quality equipment and great instruction. It was the first time our daughter went jet skiing and they put her at ease. They are a very friendly group and we HIGHLY recommend them!!!The thought of arriving at a brand new hotel on the THIRD day of opening, would make some people skeptical, but NO need to be. The excellent customer service provided by Rich and his staff, the cleanliness of the hotel, the beautiful facility and location makes it well worth it. We DEFINITELY recommend this Marriott hotel as one to stay at when in Fort Lauderdale!!!

Ok, so let me start by saying that this is a brand new hotel so things will likely improve considerably in the coming weeks. The rooms are very nice and vert well acquainted. Mine had a view of the beach/ocean though it was not ocean front - with a nice balcony.

Employeees were friendly and wanted to help - especially the wonderful lady at the front desk from Korea. Used the fitness center and it was also very good. Now for the growing pains.

Valet parking is a steep $25 per day (no self park option) plus tips
Bar/restaurant is very brightly lit for evening hours - not condusive to relaxation
Outdoor jacuzzi was the same temperature as the pool - about 80 degrees. Should be 103F.
There were glitches where guests were asking me to let them back in the hotel due to security problems with the doors - I'm sure this will be fixed soon.
Coffee is Illy rather than Starbucks - a much weaker alternative.

So my overall view. This is and can be a very nice hotel - with a few adjustments and improvements. They are new so some will happen by default. Others we will have to wait and see. The room rate was very reasonable for an ocean view room - certainly one of this high standard. There are fridge's in the room and the bathroom is nice size also. Definitely a HUGE let up on the Residence Inn next door. For details, see my review on that property and you will understand why.

Room Tip: The people at the front desk said to stay in the North Tower for a better view.
