We have stayed twice and enjoyed the experience on both occasions. Very good place to stay and very good services. Nice beach. Nice hotel. Friendly staff. We recommend this hotel. We will certainly return in the future.

Room Tip: The 505 is amazing . The room 607 was very good too.

We were at the resort for 3 nights and had great service. The place was well run, and the on-site food and offerings were both adequate and reasonably priced.
The negative side: it surprises me that in a humid climate that there is no ventilation in the bathroom. As a result, there was visible mold growing in the tile grout. There are two pools. Why is only one heated?? It creates friction fighting for preferable poolside lounging.

We have known of the Beachcomber for years, eaten at the restaurant as we lived around the corner years ago. We had not had the occasion to stay until last week. I have traveled extensively for business including Gaylord properties but had never been treated as nicely as we were treated at the front desk. The front desk receptionist Julene was helpful and charming, switching rooms upon request when I was the one that reserved the wrong room. The rest of the staff was friendly and helpful even though they were working on the Christmas holiday. We plan to return in a few months.

Room Tip: Their "Euro" rooms are spacious by chain standards but the balcony rooms are large and be...

Beachcomber has pluses (exceptionally nice staff) and minuses (maintenance issues galore) but currently the biggest problem is that Pompano Beach is using Beachcomber as ground zero for the huge trucks and heavy equipment attempting to restore the sand on the beach. Poor timing by the city and very poor choice of location as this is the narrowest part of the beach from the Lighthouse Inlet to the Lauderdale by the Sea pier so there's not much room for the huge vehicles to maneuver and even less room for beach users. The already challenged beach is thus made virtually unusable by the huge trucks chugging up and down the beach from 7 am to 5:30 pm. The worst for us in our pricey ocean front suite was the banging, honking, beeping, and groaning of the equipment that awakened us at 7. It was perilous to access the beach at all and impossible to find any spot to sit that avoided the construction. The hotel had not disclosed the construction ahead of time nor when we arrived and they put us in a lovely room which turned out to be the worst when the construction started up. They refused to reduce the room rate and blamed the city. We had to leave 3 days early to escape the tumult. In general, this is a good choice for families who don't care about any luxuries and aren't bothered by the overall rusty and old feel of the place. The kids were unperturbed by the commotion and their parents seemed equally unaffected. Also note, the pools are unheated & cold. There's no hot tub, no fitness room, & no free breakfast. Wifi is free but has spotty coverage & is often slow. People seem to enjoy the Tiki Bar but no one uses the indoor restaurant. They charge for beach chairs, as well as cushions, umbrellas & cabanas ($25 a day). Parking is free but hard to find an open space.

Room Tip: First, demand to know if the construction is over BEFORE you reserve. If it is, the rooms in the x1...

Let us make it perfectly clear that the Beachcomber is not operating or managing the work described in this review. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is in fact operating a Beach Renourishment project on the Beach here at the Beachcomber. The project is Federally funded under a grant issued as a result of Hurricane Sandy which wreaked havoc along the eastern seaboard; especially the northeastern coastal areas. Although south Florida was spared by the brunt of the storm, the high tides and wave action by Sandy and other storms over the years has caused significant beach erosion.

We were not given any advance notice about the logistics of the project on any government level (Federal, State, County, or City government) about the logistics or timing of the work and the impact it might have on our business. It took us over a week to make contact with anyone from any government agency who could give us any straight answers until we spoke with the project manager from the Army Corps of Engineers. The project manager admitted to a total lack of communication (and of course said that the county and city tossed the issue around like a hot potato) with regards to informing the local residents and businesses that would be effected by this work. What of course makes matters even worse is that this was happening on the heels and into the holiday season right in the Beachcomber’s backyard.

We had no information or opportunity to create a strategy to inform pending guests because the work schedule was not clearly communicated to for us to pass on to our incoming guests. We certainly sympathize with Ms. Gore (and Ms. Kirk who wrote the review entitled BEWARE) but the circumstances here are out of our control and not sanctioned by the Beachcomber. We are doing our best to deal with each unhappy guest on a one on one basis in an effort to maintain the goodwill we have built over our many years. We are sure that some of the other negative remarks voiced in this (and other reviews on this topic) are motivated by their (and our) frustration that their beach vacations have been negatively impacted by the Beach Renourishment project.

On one hand we have a Federally funded and operated project to blame for the disruption it has recently caused, but on the other hand, in the long run; them to thank for restoring our shoreline. We also cannot control Mother Nature whose storms over the years have eroded our beach area to the point that made this project necessary. If it was not for the funding and government effort taken to replenish our beach here at the Beachcomber, we would soon have no beach at all.

All this said, it still does not make things any better for our guests who have to cope with this situation; it is absolutely terrible timing to run a project like this at a time when the resort is most busy and folks are here to get away from the cold weather and enjoy some sun and sand.

We do very much feel and share your frustration.

The facilities here are nice -- pools, tiki bar, restaurant, inside bar, etc. But, these folks need to fire their maintenance and cleaning staffs and hire some aggressive management. Our room was on of the European Rooms. In comparison to the description, it was quite large, long but narrow but includes a huge walk through closet and bath. The furniture in these rooms are nice. This is our second time staying, and like the first time, the rooms just aren't clean. The bath tub drain would take 20 minutes to drain, leaving scum. From the desk, "The plumbing is 50 years old and filled with sand." The light fixture in the bathroom took 2 bulbs but only one worked. We asked for a replacement. It didn't happen, we called again and this time maintenance came, replaced the bulb but didn't clean out the dead bugs from within the fixture. A good example is the elevator floor had white foot prints from sand or chalk on the day we arrived. THese came in from the rear of the elevator, that door can only be used by hotel staff. The foot prints were still there three days later when we checked out. No one had moped the floor in 3 days. And then there is the extensive beach construction going on from just north of Beachcomber to well south of it. See photos, It's like sitting on an expressway under contraction, several large trucks (parked just behind the Beachcomber) driving up and down the beach dumping sand from 7AM to 6pm. Shouldn't they call and tell you that such is going on and let you back out of a reservation weeks earlier. I mean, isn't the beach a key ingredient to what you are paying for?

The view and sound of the ocean from an oceanfront balcony room would have been wonderful had there not been construction on the beach right between our room & the ocean. As it is, the night our room rate doubled, from just before daylight the day after Christmas until dusk and again the same time the next morning, dump trucks and other equipment right outside our room were frequently honking at each other and constantly the irritating sound of their reverse warning systems were sounding and their fumes + the sand they were moving around made me so sick that I had to stay in bed all that day. We purposely went back to this hotel after a stay 2 years before & booked an ocean front room solely for silence and relaxation of our room & enjoyment of the beach & ocean from our balcony, not intending to leave the room or balcony for any sight-seeing or other beach activities. Our first day, Christmas Eve and Christmas we enjoyed our stay, but the day after, the day our room rate went from $120 to $239, the constant noise was exhausting & nerve-racking even though we could not even open the balcony door to enjoy the sea breeze, much less get out on the balcony; and due to the harmful fumes the first business day upon our return, I am out another $100 diagnosed with bronchitis I did not have when we arrived in Florida exactly a week before. As we checked out, we asked the manager to change the rate on that last night's stay back to $120, NOT to comp the room, but he refused stating the hotel had no control over the timing of the beach work and would not adjust rates for anyone because the hotel could not make money that way. We witnessed him turning down another unsatisfied family's request due to the construction. He stated he would email us a discount for a future stay, but because the insides of the rooms are greatly in need of upgrading and the cleaning of the room left it less sanitary than before it was cleaned with a long hair of the maid's left on the bathroom floor & more items left on the carpet after she vacuumed than before, we had already decided we would not stay there again.

Please see our response to the review entitled BEACH CONSTRUCTION RUINS VACATION.

We also wish to apologize to Ms. Kirk who was very frustrated with us along the same lines. However, we do need to respectfully beg to differ on a few of her comments. I did tell Ms. Kirk that we would not be offering any financial compensation because the Beachcomber was not responsible for the work and out of our control. I did not say anything about the hotel not making money; that is just inaccurate.

I also promised her I would follow up and send her an email with an apology and an offer for a discount on a future stay, which in did in fact do a few days after her departure. Her review makes it seem as though I did not follow up. In fact, in my follow up email, I shared the email sent to me by the Army Corps of Engineers’ project manager who admitted to not effectively communicating the timing or scope of the project so she could at least have a better understanding as to why we did not have a chance to better inform her.

In spite of my face to face meeting with Ms. Kirk where I offered our sincere apologies and a follow up email reiterating the same with more details and a discounted offer to return; this was not enough to give her the resolution she must have expected. I do understand and sympathize with Ms. Kirk’s frustration and need to vent which is why I believe she took the opportunity to remark about the cleanliness of her room. Worth noting that Ms. Kirk had stayed at the Beachcomber in the past, decided to return on this trip, did not mention any shortcomings about the condition or cleanliness of her room or her feeling ill in our conversations until posting these additional points in her review.

With all due respect, we believe had it not been for the Beach Renourishment Project going on during her stay with us this review might have been quite different.
