“Great view and friendly people in bar”
Reviewed 25 January 2011

We had a Ocean View with two queen beds and it was perfect. The bathroom a little outdated but a huge closet for 4 girls! We kept the door open on the patio veranda and could hear the ocean at night.
A little older crowd in the bar with a great piano man and the older people are so friendly.
The Tiki bar was the best part and they have the most awesome bartender-Stevie who can make a drink like no other! What a friendly man with lots of stories.

Steve is a great asset for us here at the Beachcomber; thanks for taking the time to mention him specifically. He's the best and really loves "entertaining" our guests (he'll love that!)

Thanks for being our guest. We are so glad you enjoyed your experience at the Beachcomber and look forward to having you back real soon!

Before i booked for this hotel, some reviewer had already said cockroach was found.
Yes, i found one in the bathroom. But the room is very clean and staffs extremely nice.
One more thing, in standard room, bed is full size, not queen, which is too small for 2 persons. Generally, we're pleased with our stay.

The Great Part
My husband and I just wanted to get away for a relaxing weekend. Our room was gorgeous, it looked like the one on the website. The hotel was clean, the beach was clean, the heated pool was clean and Steve at the Tiki Bar was super! The staff was always friendly and helpful. The concierge printed our boarding passes for us the day before we checked out. The bed was king size and super comfortable. We had no trouble with internet access. The food at the hotel restaurant was really good and the pricing was reasonable. We did not have a car with us and there is not much nearby. However, there really was never a "need" to go off the property. We did walk 0.7 miles (each way) to a Walgreens to buy a beach chair that I could use to sit in the water. Across the street from the Beachcomber, there is a little bar/pizza/meals place called Stingers (yum!). Also, in the same area, there was a gift shop there and a convenience store.

The So So part:
There are free towels for the beach, lounge chairs you could "rent" each day, or "rent" a cabana with 2 lounge chairs. Everything had to be turned in by 6:00 pm. Our trip was during Thanksgiving so it wasn't really crowded. There was some construction going on and future visitors probably NEED TO ASK about it and make sure they get a room away from the noise.

The Not So Great Part:
I recommend earplugs for sleeping, the walls were pretty thin. I was disappointed in the lack of privacy on the balcony. There were not walls between the balconies only a white railing that matched the railing across the front of the balcony. It made it so that someone could literally be sitting just a couple of feet away. Also, because of the access to other rooms, we did not feel comfortable leaving our door open which would have been a real treat in the evening to listen to the waves when you are going to sleep. I cannot recommend a room on the first floor. Not only do you not have privacy on your balcony from the people in the next room, but the balcony comes right out next to the paths people walk about on in the pool area.

We really had a great time. The Not-So-Great parts would certainly not be enough to keep me away. We hope to visit again.

(Also, AAAirport-Seaport Shuttle picked us up from the Beachcomber for Ft. Lauderdale Airport service. Very good service, even picked us up at 2:30 am. No troubles.)

We just stayed here for three nights while visiting family in Pompano Beach. Our room was a corner beachfront room which had a tiny kitchenette with coffee maker, sink, microwave and dorm-size fridge with a round table and two chairs. Just inside the room was a very long walk-in closet at the end of which was the door to the bathroom. Further into the room was the sleeping area, with two very comfy queen beds, a nice-sized desk, chair with large foot rest, and windows on two sides. Large florida-type shutters cover the windows, which do not open (the windows not the shutters!). There is a door to the large oceanfront balcony which had two very comfy, padded lounge chairs. The view from the balcony is just awesome! We were on the 4th floor. Our kids were in the adjoining room next door, and they did not have any type of kitchenette at all, and they had a king bed. They had the same kind of tv and cabinet, and a dorm-size fridge as well. Their closet was similar to ours but the bathroom seemed to be a bit larger. The rooms have been updated recently, everything has new paint, but the tvs are still 20 years old and there is interference from the wi-fi so that the channels are sort of fuzzy.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming, the pool was sparkling clean, as was the deck and garden area. The pool seemed to be heated, at least it was warmer than the 65 degree air when we checked in. The beach is lovely and wide. There is a restaurant but we never did eat there. The smoking area is immediately outside the front entrance, which I would strongly encourage them to move it further away from the entrance. Nothing like walking through a cloud of cigarette smoke into the lobby of your hotel.

As for the housekeeping, they did an ok job. Beds were made and bathroom tidied, but for some reason, every day we ended up with fewer towels, as the housekeeper would remove the used towels (even though we hung them up to indicate we would re-use them) and not replace them. The second day I had to call housekeeping as we were down to one bath towel, no hand towels, and one washcloth! Strangely, there are no towel rods to hang up towels after use - only the shower rod. The bathroom had plenty of hot water, but the fan was completely ineffective in removing moisture as it was obviously clogged with dust and lint. The bathroom window was inoperable. Also our room door actually didn't lock by the dead bolt - something must have been out of alignment. We felt perfectly safe anyway and actually slept with the balcony door open so we could hear the surf. I did report the fan and door lock issues to the clerk when we checked out and she seemed less than interested in seeing to their correction.

All in all, we thought the hotel was very pleasant and the location is really good.

Stayed at the resort hotel one night on our recent visit to Pompano Beach. Check in was quick and easy, the clerk was very friendly. A complimentary upgrade put us in a Junior Suite, spacious and well appointed. The balcony view was great, the pool inviting, and the beach well manicured. The weather did not cooperate however as it was cool and rainy. The hotel heater did not warm us up much, so we bundled up for a cool night's rest. The price made it worthwhile. I would definitely recommend this resort.

While the Beachcomber Resort is nicely situated right on the beach in Pompano, it was a bigt disappointment for a number of reasons. Unless you have a car, it is way out of the way. Other than a hamburger place across the street, there are no restaurants close by. The pool was nice, as was the food service at the pool, but to use the beach, you have to pay extra for the hotel's own chairs. The room was really small! The promised wifi didn't work in the room - I had to go in the hall to access it. And worst of all, the hot water didn't work. Their solution, despite the signs in the room about preserving the environment, was to tell me to run it for 15-20 minutes! It never got hot, and it took two more calls to get maintenance to my room. Even with that "fix," it was barely warm. They told me it was because I was on a "high up" floor (5th of the 8 floors!). I spoke to someone on the 8th floor who had the same problem. The price was right, but that was about it.

We appreciate the feedback and wish to address the issues identified by this reviewer. The Beachcomber is located on the ocean on a road known by many names which are all the same road (A1A, Ocean Blvd); approximately 7 miles north of the Fort Lauderdale strip where most of the “action” is. The Beachcomber is technically in the city of Pompano Beach (which is just north of Fort Lauderdale proper). There are very few hotels in Fort Lauderdale that are directly on the beach itself, most of the hotels that are on the Fort Lauderdale strip are across the street from the beach which means that to get to the beach you would have to cross A1A/Ocean Blvd.; the Beachcomber is directly on the beach (so those who stay with us can get to the beach without having to cross a road). With that in mind, there is a trade off if you choose to stay since the Beachcomber is in a quieter less commercialized area but is a full service hotel with a pool side Tiki Bar, Cocktail Lounge, dining room (that serves 3 meals a day); room service is also available. We do offer everyting one might expect from an Ocean Front beach resort and we have many guests who stay on property for their entire stay. However, there is a wide variety of restaurants and shops 3 miles south or ¾ miles north of the property just off of A1A/Ocean Blvd. Although we do have a varied menu and reasonable prices, it is not unusual for our guests to venture out and experience the destination. If you do not drive your own car or rent a car, we can suggest convenient public transportation, assist with a car rental, airport transportation, or taxi service once you’re here.
The reviewer remarked about us charging for beach chaise lounge rental (on the beach) which is true that we do charge extra for this, however our chaise lounges around our 2 pool areas are free of charge, as is towel service. Our guests are certainly allowed to use our beach area for free so if they wish to lay out a towel on the sand or bring their own beach chair they are welcome to do so.
Most resort hotels in Fort Lauderdale on or across the street from the beach charge for parking or charge a “resort fee” that ranges from $10 to $30+ per day to cover resort facilities usage for pool towels, chaise lounges, or access to a fitness center. The Beachcomber does not charge resort fees and it is always free to park as long as you are a registered guest of the resort. We also have Beach Butler service on our beach so if you do choose to rent a chaise lounge or beach cabana (on the beach) we have an electronic call device that comes with the chaise lounge or beach cabana so you can call one of our servers to place a drink or food order without having to get up from your chaise lounge, leave the beach to flag down or wait until a server comes by.
The reviewer also mentioned that their room was “real small”. The Beachcomber has a wide variety of room types; and it sounds like they stayed in our one of our European Rooms which is smaller than our typical rooms, does not have a microwave or refrigerator, and does not have much of a view or a balcony. We do charge considerably less for our European Rooms; in fact it is our least expensive room. We do regret that they had an issue with hot water; we did have a recent problem with our hot water system and that has since been resolved.
Again we do appreciate the feedback and the opportunity to respond accordingly.

I stayed at the Beachcomber in August. The staff was very helpful, even when I was calling to make reservation. It was my first trip alone so I was a little nervous going somewhere that was unfamiliar. They made me feel right at home. The restaurant was a little over-priced, like most hotels, but the food was good. There are two pools which I liked, in case one got too crowded. If I had a choice next time, I would stay in the tower, rather than the ground floor rooms, because it was a little noisy being right by the pool. But it wasn't too bothersome. There are a few fast food places and shopping close by.
