“I no longer brag about the Port Inn!”
Reviewed 21 June 2012

This was our third stay at the Inn. The first visit was very good. We terminated our second visit after spending the first of our planned two nights coping with a multitude of noises—auto, people, electrical beeping, and who knows what! This, our third, trip was much the same except our room was directly across from the ice machine and/or noise maker. Room was rather small. Bath was very small. Many channels posted on their “how to watch” TV card were wrong. In room AC unit was almost as noisy as ice machine. Good location, nice people, but if you can’t sleep why pay the money?

We just got back from the Port Inn and had a wonderful time. The staff was very nice and helpful. We stayed in a "suite" with a small kitchen, couch, table for 2 and a couple extra chairs. Most importantly the room was clean. Plenty of pillows and fresh linens. We had a full size fridge which was great since our room turned into the hangout for all our friends that were staying there for the wedding. Breakfast was really good, but we missed the Thirsty Goat restaurant due to wedding festivities. All in all it was a pleasant experience and a nice place to go if your looking for an area that's not touristy.

. . . except maybe for the room rate. Ok, so maybe it's because it's the ONLY decent place to stay in Port. St. Joe? Room was very nice however, but still thought just a little steep, considering it was mid-week mid-May. Didn't help that it was located at the intersection of 2 main state highways - with traffic lights. Don't mind traffic sounds in general, but when they are starting and stopping outside your window all night (especially the logging trucks that were numerous in the area) it can get to you after awhile. Did like the fact you could walk to some of the restaurants in the area, as well as along the waterfront across the street. Staff was very nice, as was the breakfast - buffet style as well as made to order omelets and waffles. Unfortunately our timing was such that the in-house restaurant (The Thirsty Goat) was closed the 2 nights we were there. All in all, a relaxing and basically uneventful time was had by us both. Guess that's a good thing?

Room Tip: I would've rated "room quality" higher as the bed and room were very comfortable, but...

We were looking for something near the beach in a smaller, older beach town. We got lucky and The Port Inn had one room left. It was like a studio apartment but was soooo nice. It had a king size beds with nice linens. The front desk clerk was very helpful when we checked in. (Lady with blond hair....wish I remembered her name). The inn has complimentary bikes for guests to use to ride around the downtown area. There is seafood, pizza and fast food within walking distance but we ate a flatbread pizza at the inn at it was great. Remember this is a historic building so there is not elevator if you have difficulty with stairs please ask for a main level room. The porch on front is great to sit and relax with a cool drink. View of the water and is only a few feet away. We were looking to get far away from a concrete jungle type beach and this was great. Will definitely come back and tell our friends too.

Room Tip: Room 99 is a efficiendy apartment and has a mini kitchen if you are staying for a few nights. It ha...

The Port Inn was a wonderful place to stay. The staff is friendly and helpful. The room was clean and well stocked, with bottled water every day to take with you. They offered free bikes to explore the town and trails with and the bottled water sure came in handy. The Port Inn is located right in the middle of town with easy walking to restaurants or other services. We highly recommend it.

Check-in was quick and easy even though they were training a new employee. The size of the rooms on the backside of the hotel (away from 98) are TINY, there is no desk for a business traveler and the HVAC compressors are right outside your window. My room (203) only had a shower. My colleagues in 201 and 205 had a bathtub with shower. I asked to be moved to the front side of the hotel for my other two nights. Fortunately, they were able to move me. My room on the front side of the hotel was MUCH more spacious and felt like a "normal" hotel room. There was a desk, nice sized bathroom with tub/shower. While 98 runs between the hotel and the water, the view was much better than seeing the HVAC units. I reported that the sink stopper in 204 did not work and was told it would be fixed the next day. It was not fixed before I checked out and nothing was said to me as to why.

No Elevator!

The free breakfast in the morning was very tasty and offered a variety of choices including omelets, Belgian waffles, scrambled eggs, grits, gravy, biscuits, toast, OJ, coffee and cereal. There was no fresh melon however there were bananas.

The bar in not open on Sunday :-( When we visited on Monday and Tuesday the bartenders were friendly, the drink prices reasonable (especially on coin flip Tuesday when if you call the toss correctly your drink is 1/2 price until 10pm) and the variety plentiful. The cigar humidor looked to have a wide selection. The outside deck provides a wonderful place to enjoy a drink with friends and watch the day go by. Even though the deck is 15 feet from 98, the traffic didn't bother me. We walked from the deck to the port to watch a lovely sunset.

I did not swim in pool, however it was often occupied with families.

The Mainstay Suites is owned by the same person and from pictures may be a better choice for business travelers unless you get a room on the front side and want to be within walking distance of a beautiful sunset.

Room Tip: Rooms toward 98/the water are standard-sized. Room on the parking lot side are TINY, I could hardly...

I stayed here for a one night business trip and the Port Inn was right beside the meeting location. Everything was great, the breakfast, the service, etc. The only lower points were the size of the room I was in and the heaviness of the door to the lobby when you bring your luggage in. I decided to bring the company here when we got the project in March and we stayed 5 nights. Great value!
