“Top Notch Vacation”
Reviewed 13 August 2011

We loved everything about Sandpiper Bay! We have two kids ages 10 and 13 that we had to pry out of there when it was time to go home! We participated in a sailing regatta as a family. We had never sailed before and took fourth place out of six teams! The staff made us feel like family members and our kids made some great friends at the kids club, Level 47. We even got my husband to do the trapeze! The food was superb and the pool was so relaxing. We were also very happy with our room which faced the lake. A great vacation and we can't wait to go back.

Dear benichon,

We're happy to hear you and your children enjoyed your stay with us at Club Med Sandpiper Bay. However, we're sorry to hear that you felt the G.O. spirit was lacking. We will be sure to direct your comments about this and the boutique to the management. Thank you for your review, and we hope to see you at Club Med again soon.

Kind Regards,

Pros:
In general, the people who work here are very nice and make an effort to be helpful. Many guests are from Europe, giving the resort an international flair, without having to leave the country.
Cons:
Rooms: We reserved top of the line renovated deluxe family. All I can say is cement walls painted purple, black mold in shower, no hair conditioner, pen or paper in the room (not by mistake--standard) and an empty half fridge from 1970 do not conjure up deluxe or renovated for me.
Activities: If it rains, there is one indoor place to hang out )other than your cement block cell, I mean guest room.) This place, "Slice" has one mini pool table and a dozen games with missing pieces for an entire village of visitors to enjoy. Worry not, You can enjoy a plastic cup full of goldfish crackers from the bar.
Speaking of food: If you stay here you better like to eat on schedule. Up after 10 am? No breakfast for you! Hungry after 9 pm? It's goldfish crackers for you. I kid you not.
There is one restaurant with exceedingly slow but pleasant waiter service and one buffet. Period. In the buffet area, be prepared to be seated 1/4 mile from the food area, making a trip to get the ketchup you forgot for your hotdog hardly worth the effort. The fresh bread, however, is excellent and on the third day I wised up and hoarded some to eat after 9 pm when the world shut down.

De to the bad weather, we were not able to utilize tennis or golf. We did manage to get in sailing and paddle boarding--both fun. Don't expect a thrilling aquatic experience; the cove in which you can partake in these areas is small, In 1/2 an hour, you know it intimately. One main pool, no diving boards, no food service at pool. If Motel 6 offered an all-inclusive, this is how I imagine it would be...

We just returned from our 17th summer visit to Sandpiper. We first went to Sandpiper when our daughter was a baby because they had a baby club, and we have returned every summer since. She is now 16 years old!
The resort is so beautiful this year. The adult pool is fabulous. We loved the pool bar and unlimited towels at the adult pool. This is new and should be continued. It is fabulous.
I loved taking yoga on the deck of the adult pool with the beautiful view of the river. Wonderful!
The adult pool did get crowded. More chairs are needed out there, maybe even make a larger area for folks to sunbathe. Shade is crucial for us pale-faced folks. There is not much unless you are luck enough to get a pool-bed. I suggest pool umbrellas. Trees would be even better.
My daughter loved the trapeze and all the wonderful GOs out there. She is now "friends" with all of them and has convinced me to take her to a trapeze school in the big city near our home.
Our room in the C building (341) was horrible. Too small for 2 adults and a 16-year old. And the AC was horrible. The room barely cooled off and the "fix" for the bad AC was putting a big fan in front of the AC. Really?! We are gold members and no one would move us to a better room. Actually, I think this was the "upgraded" room that we should get as Gold Members. Very disappointing!
The remodelled main restaurant and bar are wonderful. A great improvement from the old buildings. The food was awesome. You could get just about anything you wanted at the bar by asking for it.
The entertainment was very lacking compared to past years. Only a few shows. Trivia is not a show.
We spent 2 weeks at Sandpiper and were very disappointed that there was no trapeze show for GMs. Our daughter is very active on the trapeze and ususally performs in the weekly show. The first week one was scheduled but cancelled due to rain and storms (understandable), but the second week no show was scheduled.

Room Tip: Do not stay in the C building.

We add a great trip to this Club Med. This was our first experience in a Club Med and we are totally enchanted. We will for sure go back to this place some day and maybe even bring our brothers and sisters, because this Club Med is fantatic for families and to practice some sports.

We appreciated our arrival at the Club Med. We unfortunately missed our transfert in Newark to Florida, but a shuttle came to take us at the airport the day after (even if he had waited for us the day before when we didn't show up) and there even was a baby seat waiting for us in the shuttle. I was relieved because I had forgot to plan this important point before quiting the house! The Club Med is so nice, they plan everything for you and your baby. You have a nice cib waiting for you in the room, with a bottle warmer, a baby bath and a place to change the baby's diapers. In the restaurant, there're a lot of highchairs and bibs.

Our 1 year old kid loved the beach and the pools. There are 2 small pools for the kids and one of them as slides in it. Just be carefull, this is a baby pool, so don't get in the slide as an adult, this is quite dangerous, my nose still hurt after I felt off this slide. And there is another big pool which is fun for the small kids; it starts with just a few water and as you go toward the middle, the level of water increases and the kids just love it.

As a pregnant woman, I had a lot of fun too. And drank a lot of there wondrfull smoothies. I also made a lot of paddle board with Anna; she even got us on morning expeditions to the other side of the river 3 times during the week. The water was calm and the sceneries very nice. I simply loved it.

My husband made some friends playing volley ball and deck hockey. He even tried the trapeze with the great circus team. During this time, our sunny little girl made some teenage friends and played with the hola hoops, even if she couldn't walk yet. We really had a great time at the circus ;-)

We loved the food and the pastries. Everything is always fresh, it looks good and it tastes good. There is only one buffet and one other restaurant "à la carte", but the menu served at the buffet varies every day. You always have different pastas, pizzas, hamburgers and salads, but you also have so different types of fishes, chicken and meats at every meal that you never really know what to pick. There's always a nice choice of fresh fruit and steamed vegetables for the little begginers. And if your child doesn't eat like you, there's a choice of Gerber purées.

We took 4 grandchildren and loved the place. Accommodations, food, facility, activities, and particularly staff friendliness and enthusiasm were beyond our expectations. It was fun, relaxing, and felt very safe. There are separate facilities for "just adults", and we would consider being there without children. We loved the "all inclusive" nature of the cost. No problem with kids having drinks, snacks, food,as much as they wanted.

We spent one week at Sandpiper with our large extended family of 15. We had a great time. The mini club was perfect for the little ones and the calm pool was great for adults. There is really only one restaurant but it is fabulous despite being buffet style dining. The staff and entertainment were great. My only constructive feedback is about the rooms. We stayed in a renovated room however, there were many details that were incomplete. No drawers, etc. It was more of a refurbishment and we had a leak in the wall and some mold. Most Carribean resorts have that humid, moldy smell but ours seemed more pronounced perhaps due to the leak.
