Peace River Wildlife Center
Ranked #1 of 59 things to do in Punta Gorda
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 28 November 2013

Recently the Peace River Wildlife Center received a juvenile frigate bird as a permanent addition to the family. He (or she- they don't know yet) is now on view in the pelican pond area. Also on display is a rare white screech owl, who was brought in as a baby in the spring. A third bald eagle, also a juvenile ( completely brown coloring) is staying with eagles Captain Arthur and Bilfred until a permanent home is chosen for her. Two moor hens have been added to the shore bird habitat. Take a picnic lunch and enjoy the Pnce de Leon park after your visit to the Center!

Great wildlife observation on elevated park walkway thru a mangrove swamp, live birds on display that are being nursed back to health. The wildlife center is not a zoo but rather a rescue operation.

I'm a local of Punta Gorda, and still frequent the PRWC. I have brought several wounded animals over the years as well to these great folks. If you are unfamiliar with the aquatic and non aquatic species of birds in South West FL, or if you have visitors from the North, do make a stop here. Their is no fee, but donations are gladly accepted and desperately needed as well. The great volunteers here can usually answer any questions you have and will give you a brief tour if you have not been to the center before. The park is also located on the grounds of lovely Ponce De Leon park, with great views of Charlotte Harbor, and has a boardwalk trail through the mangrove hammock. Make a visit, you wont be sorry.

Really a great place to see a bit of the wildlife. It is a wonderful sanctuary where injured animals native to the area can be rehabilitated after injuries, many of them due to negligent humans discarding fishing lines/lures.

Nice quiet park with a very small beach but nice view of water. Nice park for small children to run and have fun. Nature walk on elevated wood walkway with story boards to explain what is in the area.
