After 2 weeks in Orlando, this was a welcome change of pace. It was completely deserted. A few people sat around the water fountain on the main floor. We had a breathtaking view from our balcony, where we watched the sunsets every evening. We borrowed bikes(complimentary) and rode around the neighborhood to the Ponce de Leon park and wildlife sanctuary. We played tennis (complimentary). They had a breakfast to introduce the area and had someone come in to talk about a wildlife park close by. She had a baby gator you could hold and photograph. There was no timeshare presentation. There was also a wine and cheese evening which we missed, because it was quite early in the evening and we were still on our way back from the beach. The nearest beach in Port Charlotte was closed due to bacteria, so we drove to Englewood.
Staff was friendly. The unit was clean. The local wildlife was quite tame. It was very quiet the entire week we were there. We walked to Gilchrist Park and the splash fountains nearby. The quaint downtown area was also very quiet.
The units were clean. The bathroom needs to be updated but the rest of the unit suits the whole vibe of the area.
The location was ok, although far from beaches. We did visit Ft.Myers Beach and Siesta Key, both really nice and wide with white sand and clear warm water.
We probably won't visit again, since once you've seen it, there's not much to go back for. We have teenage kids. For seniors or fishermen I'm sure it's a wonderful place to keep going back to.

Room Tip: All rooms overlooking the water have great sunset views

I am so glad to hear that you and your family enjoyed your stay with us in Punta Gorda. We are located in a smaller town and the summer months are typically our off-season. I hope you enjoyed the slower pace and will recommend the area to your friends.

Upon check-in my husband killed a roach over the check-in window.

We should have looked around the place better...our fault. Had to call to have the doorwall washed, as it was extremely dirty. To the resorts credit someone was there in less than 10 minutes.

The unit was worn out...scratched furniture, worn out fabric on sofa and love seat. The bathroom door hit the toilet when you opened or closed it. The door to the balcony was very hard to open. No ice maker in the unit, ice maker in laundry room not functioning. Cobwebs on top of lampshades. Top of refrigerator dirty. Flaking paint on balcony railing, which got all over balcony, tracked into unit onto carpet. Paint also got on you if you touched the railing.

There was a ladder that went to a loft....extremely dangerous, as it was not properly secured, and hazardous to climb.

We were suppose to stay for a week...checked out early....just couldn't take it anymore.

This resort should not be on RCI list.

I am so sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us! As this is our "slower" time of the year we are currently taking steps for repainting (walkways, balconies, and buildings). We are also replacing the living room furniture; it is on order and should be installed in the next two months.
I am sorry the ice machine did not work during your stay; it was replaced with a brand new machine on Friday so it is guaranteed to work.
I hope you will come back and give us another try.

We stayed here Oct. 2012 and just read where they received Certificate of Excellence. I cannot understand where the excellence is, so had to write my opinion. The unit interior was medieval look with dark stained beams, dreary color on walls, crummy furniture, cob webs, and generally dirty. In fact, we were booked there for a week and checked out early--couldn't wait to get out of there. We borrowed the free rusty bikes one day to ride downtown (which is terrific) and were lucky to get back without breaking down. Folks, I'm sorry I didn't write sooner.

We stayed at Fishermen's Village for almost two weeks during July (2013). Honestly going into this exchange I wasn't sure about the place, but we were pleasantly surprised. The unit was clean - I mean really clean - and quiet even though we were just one unit off the Schooner Bar. The resort has a rustic feel to it that adds to its charm. It's location is really convenient to going north towards Venice or south to Naples. The resort does offer entertainment on the weekends and Schooner Bar had live entertainment on saturday. We were surprised at how much room there was in these units, it was only two of us, though it could have easily accommodate 4 adults and 4 kids - one bathroom would require a tad of scheduling :-)). We would stay here again.

I am so glad to hear that you were pleasantly surprised by our resort. We are an older property, but we do our best to maintain the rooms and the grounds. Even though we are in the smaller town of Punta Gorda, there is easy access to larger cities like Fort Myers, Sarasota, and even Tampa. It gives you the convenience of hitting up the sights or relaxing, your choice.

We look forward to a your next stay with us!

We had a great time, even though the weather did not cooperate. We had rain every day. So glad we had the shops and restaurants and local entertainment performing on the stage to occupy our time while it was raining! The pool was really fun when we did get to spend time in it (when it wasn't raining!). 4th of July was awesome. They have a "swim" from the bridge to Harpoon Harry's. Lots of people accompanied the 200+ swimmers in canoes & rafts & other floation devices. That started the 4th of July off with lots of people. We spent a lot of time on our balcony, people watching! Lots of boats in the Harbor decorated them for the 4th of July festivities - they looked GREAT! Fireworks at 9 pm were awesome - the city of Punta Gorda did a wonderful job. We had a spectacular view from our Balcony! The staff was always very friendly and helpful.

Stayed at Fisherman's Village the first week of July. I have to say I agree with every other review written about this resort. I am also a Marriott owner but having read all the reviews I did not expect the same quality level. Nonetheless, our unit was clean, functional, and comfortable.

There were only two of us so one bathroom was sufficient. I would not want to have four adults sharing the small bathroom and small living space.

We had one maintenance issue and the maintenance man arrived in 5 minutes.

The resort had both an orientation and a wine-and-cheese get together. Although we missed both we thought that was a nice touch.

So what did we do while we were there?

Enjoyed a lunch and the view at Harpoon Harry's but another restaurant we ate at downstairs was just average.

Really liked listening to the music in the center of the mall.

Took a bike ride around town one day to look at all the murals (there is a map in the office).

Took a walk along the water and then went to a Farmer's Market in the Historical Park on Sunday. Very beautiful setting with a musician playing acoustic guitar.

Had a good meal at River City Grill in downtown Punta Gorda. Found a coupon in one of the local papers for 2-for-1.

Watched the Freedom Swim from Harpoon Harry's on July 4th.

Watched the fireworks over Port Charlotte Harbor on July 4th.

Played golf three times. Absolutely loved Bobcat Trail in North Port. Only $25 each before 8AM this time of the year. Staff was very friendly there. Many courses under water though due to the heavy rains last week.

Went to three beaches: Venice Beach, Lido Beach (Sarasota) and Ft. Myers Beach. My favorite was Lido because of the really nice shopping are near the beach.

Went to MIromar Outlet mall between Ft. Myers and Naples and then had dinner in Naples.

Went to the movies....closest theaters were in Port Charlotte.

Pros:
Very helpful, friendly staff at front desk
Could exchange for clean beach towels every day
Could check out beach chairs
Can borrow bikes for free at the marina
Pool was large, clean and had plenty of chairs
Convenient parking
Lots of fun stores to browse in on first floor
A/C worked great

Cons:
40 min. to closest beach
Office was only open from around 8 AM to 5 PM
Very small bathroom
Minimal light in shower
Coffee shop downstairs did not open until 8 AM
No washer/dryer in unit
No fitness room

Overall, we enjoyed our time at Fisherman's Village Resort. It was conveniently located to go exploring the gulf side of Florida.

Room Tip: We were in a room close to the office so it was quiet unless people were running past the room. Yo...

This resort is older, like many prior reviews stated, but it has a relaxed, Old Floridian charm and the kitchen, decor looks like has been updated and maintained regularly. The only drawback for us was 1 bathroom and for 5 adults and 1 child, but the loft space was such a bonus for the child it more than made up for the bathroom drawback. Also, being on top of shopping, there was a bank of very clean restrooms just below us the one morning we all needed to get ready at the same time for famly event.

The staff was wonderful and every time we asked for assistance, they more than delivered, for examples we asked for the nearest beach and they provided us with beach chairs and a cooler. I never had that kind of equipment checkout at any other resorts.

There was a "breakfast talk" on Tuesday morning that provided lots of ideas for family outings and didn't try to sell us anything.

This resort is built on-top of seaside, shopping center. Shops opened at about 10am and closed early enough that the traffic never bothered us. Actually too early many nights, we would have appreciated later hours as we were gone most days and got back too late to check out most of the shops.

Kitchen facilities were great, and we wanted something, housekeeping was able to get all we needed. The relaxed atmosphere, great service and the uniqueness of this resort will bring us back again.

Room Tip: All rooms are "upstairs" there was an elevator that was helpful for the older adults in ou...

I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay here at Fishermen's Village! The loft is a nice addition for kids and teenagers - like their own little hide-away. It is nice to know that you took advantage of our free chairs and beach equipment; we try to have everything available for our guests.
Hope you can come back and stay with us again! The shops are open later during the winter, giving you extra time to browse.
