In October 2017 we booked this property for 10 days beginning April 13th 2018. There are a large number of similar properties in the area and we chose this one specifically because it was described by the owner as being "not overlooked and is completely private and secluded, ideal for sunbathing in the garden." Photographs confirmed that all one could see from the pool and lanai were trees and shrubs. We even checked Google Earth and could see that the house was indeed surrounded by mature trees and shrubs. We like our privacy and this seemed ideal.
We paid the balance of the rental fee in mid-February.
When we arrived we were horrified to see that the adjacent plot which contained many of the trees and shrubs had been completely cleared , levelled and pegged out ready for a house to be constructed. (in fact the builders started work two days later, with a Portaloo on the front lawn).
The effect of the clearance was that there was no privacy whatsoever, and the pool was overlooked by five other properties in close proximity.
We telephoned the local agent who told us the site had been cleared two or three weeks earlier, and that she had emailed photographs to the owner. A neighbour told us that, in fact, this had been done in February. I emailed the owner, Mrs Hunt, who replied that she was disappointed too, and that she had no idea that the site was going to be bulldozed. She offered to send round a bottle of wine as compensation!
I understand entirely that the owners had no control over what happened to the adjacent site, but they made no attempt to warn us that conditions had changed dramatically, and let us fly 4500 miles to house which if we had seen it in its current condition, we would definitely not have booked.
We had a contract based on the owner's specific descriptions and photographs. We should have been offered the option to cancel or accept at a reduced price. The owner still maintains that she knew nothing about the clearance, which is not borne out by conversations with the local agent and neighbours.
We feel cheated. If you want privacy, then this villa isn't for you.
We had a wonderful time in this home. We took our 3 adult children on vacation with us. When we arrived all the lights were on which was really nice as our flight was delayed and we got in at 5am. Bathrooms, rooms, kitchen were all clean. There were ample products to get us started so we didn't have to run to the store at 5 am to get soap, toilet paper etc... The beds were very comfortable and there was plenty of extra bedding and pillows in each room. Every bedroom had plenty of closet and drawer space.
The pool area and pool was clean. The fun stuff: There were adult bikes and two kid bikes, plenty of pool toys for kids, 5 beach chairs with straps for carrying them, 2 umbrellas with the sand corkscrew holders, 3 sizes of coolers, and even some sunscreen to get you started if you forgot yours( which we did). All of this matters when going to the beach and using the pool every day! Our favorite discovery was the whole house radio system! We thoroughly enjoyed having music everywhere.
For cooking, there was plenty of pans, dishes, silverware, mixing bowls, appliances, and even Tupperware containers for leftovers!! We used the grill several times for grilling seafood and fixed gourmet meals and delicious breakfasts inside.
We used the pool several times a day and it was nice to have a heated pool even though it was summer and hot out. The young adults used the hot tub all the time and loved the pool lights at night and the hot tub fountain.
Although we didn't use the TV's there was one in every bedroom and a DVD player in the Living Room. We spent all of our time in the lanai at the large table and 6 really comfortable chairs eating, playing games and talking.
There are 7 beaches withing a 15 minute to half hour drive. Several large chain grocery stores within 15 minutes ( one 7 minutes away) The house is on a quiet street with empty lots on both sides. As we have family that lives in Englewood we knew the area. The restaurants are not over priced like on some tourist locations and there is a wide variety to choose from. I advise TripAdvisor for ratings on the local restaurants. The Property Manager was really nice and answered all questions.
The only negative I could say would be: the thermostat can't be lowered ( which I totally understand) but it was a bit warm. The ceiling fans in all the bedrooms were nice. Also, the white carpet made us nervous. Can't wait to come back again!
It doesn't take a genius to realise the quality of this villa from the photos, but having seen it in the flesh I confirm they don't do it justice, you will definitely feel the 'Wow' factor on entering.
The pool is excellent and is complemented by the Spa.
The furnishing are top notch and the whole Villa is spotless and well laid out. The location is ideal with supermarkets, restaurants, beaches and the connecting highways in close proximity.
If you feel like biking then Rotonda West provides a myriad of safe paths and the Villa has 5 Adult & 1 Child bike with stabilisers, the garage is like a bike shop. Don't worry there's still ample room to get a car in.
I love the barbecue which is in its own canopied building by the pool so you can still cook if its raining and the table and chairs are covered by a canopy from the house.
The Villa is like a Chameleon, there was ample room for our party of four and it could take 6 without any trouble and could equally accommodate just 2.
My advice is if you're interested don't leave booking too long because Villas of this quality don't stay empty long.
An excellent place to stay, all you need for your stay, even down to the beach chairs. I would highly recommend this villa, nothing was too much trouble for the owners and you could not hope for a cleaner and better kept villa.
Thank you Denise& John for the use of your home
