Reviewed 14 April 2013

We picked this "resort" based on high reviews on Trip Advisor. When we arrived, it was a little different than what the website portrayed. Our unit had a mini kitchen instead of a full kitchen like the website advertises. The manager did give us access to another unit to use the kitchen. The beds are very noisy and not very comfortable. The "resort wide wifi" only works if you are standing by the office. If you are looking to fish, this has a nice location, but may want to reconsider if you are wanting a "resort".

My husband and I needed to go to Orlando to attend a trade show. We decided it was cheaper to fly into Tampa, rent a car and then return to Tampa for the weekend. We weren't interested in DisneyWorld. But, I didn't want to get stuck in one of those overpriced, noisy resorts with a bunch of 20-year-olds drinking pitchers of margaritas. I found Pirates Pointe actually after reading reviews on this site. It didn't disappoint!

To be perfectly honest, when you drive down the road to Pirate's Pointe, you may have a twinge of "what did I get myself into..." Just keep going. As soon as you hit the front gate, you'll realize you've made it to a hidden gem only 40 minutes from the Tampa airport.

We stayed in a new cottage with a king-sized bed, huge bathroom, small dinette, and living area. It was absolutely the perfect size, brand new, very clean and comfortable. We met both of our "neighbors" in the cottages next to us who were delightful. We rented a kayak and spent hours on Saturday afternoon exploring the river. Very calm, peaceful--just what we were looking for.

We didn't have enough time to fish or do more boating but if we ever get back there, we will. We did go exploring and found Apollo Beach. Go there. It's beautiful. And there is a Manatee viewing area by the power plant. We saw lots and lots of manatees, stingrays--all kinds of fish. Fun for kids, teenagers, adults, seniors!

Remember, this isn't a standard hotel. You need to go to the convenience store and get supplies. Think of it as a camp for grown-ups who love the outdoors.

Feel the stress of this fast paced world melt away the moment you set foot in Pirate's Pointe.
You will immediately feel like you're in your own tropical paradise. So private. So quiet. So very, very relaxing. The immaculate cottages have all the comforts of home. The pool is a few steps from anywhere. The pics I have posted say more than words can, when trying to describe the landscaping... simply incredible! The dock offers secluded relaxation on the water... and the sunsets are stunning! We stayed for a couple of nights in Feb. and can't wait to get back! We spent time relaxing by the pool, sipping cocktails on the dock, and took a fishing charter with D.R.Guarino as recommended by Pirate's Pointe owner Jonathan Shute. All the staff we encountered were warm and welcoming, and always available. If you're someone who appreciates the real beauty of Florida... then you must make a stop here! You won't be disappointed!!!

When we arrived all I could see was this clean well kept Oasis. It looks like a Tropical Island. The studio we stayed in was very clean and had all the comforts of home. My husband enjoyed going just a short walk down th the dock to do some relaxed fishing. The owner and the staff are very courteous and helpful, recommending places to eat and fish. I would truly reccomend this place for a wonderful, relaxing Florida getaway!!

The owner and staff were great in recommending places to fish and eat. We stayed in a studio which had a "Murphy Bed". This made for a large space in the room during the day. While on property you felt you were in the wilderness.

The fishing from the dock was great, especially in the evening.

We found this gem through Living Social and are soooo happy we did. Who would expect to find a get-away of this caliber in Ruskin only 45 minutes from our home? It felt like we'd escaped to the Keys or someplace tropical. The cabins are roomy and beautiful appointed. We had a private patio in the back with table and chairs and umbrella. There was a cute front porch with a bench and hanging plants - in fact, I've seldom been anywhere with more beautiful, lush landscaping. The pool was made for splashing about or just lying in a lounge chair with a cocktail. The entire place was immaculate, and the owner Jonathan couldn't be any friendlier or more helpful. Great docks and easy access to the river and Tampa Bay. We took one of the guided fishing trips and couldn't believe the number and variety of fish we caught. It made a great dinner one night. We will definitely go back and are recommending to all of our friends - fishermen or not, this is such a fun place.

Instead of staying at an unpleasant chain motel when visiting an elderly relative in the area, I go to Pirate's Pointe. This time I discovered there was a Labor Day weekend BBQ! Former chef and owner Jonathan prepared a fantastic spread for his guests. Sunsets over the river were lovely, and the pool was just the right temperature. This place is an oasis! Charming cottages and lush landscaping add to the ambiance. Nearby are decent restaurants--open air Fish House and tiki bar at Little Harbor. Don't be deterred by the dismal Sun City area--Pirate's Pointe is perfect!
