“Nice for RV or Kabin, Do not camp here with a tent!”
Reviewed 7 June 2010

We checked into the KOA May 15-18, 2009. We rented a Kabin on the lake. The staff was very pleasant and accommodating. The property was clean and offered fishing, peddle boating, a pool and a doggie park. The "lake," though, was more like a large retention pond. The tent camp sites are on the road side of the property with sights and sounds of the grocery store parking lot and major highway. Don't expect any darkness, either. You get to sleep with the same parking lot street lights glaring into your tent. Definately not ideal for a "camping" experience.
They do have free high speed internet, cable hook ups in the Kabins, and there bathrooms were always very clean.
If staying here with pets, an RV or a Kabin, definately a nice place. Don't tent it.

KOA never seems to understand what camping is. Camping is trees and atmosphere to relax. This site was over $85/night - that included cable, sewer, electric and water along with internet and a bag of wet wood. Everything was clean but not well kept.
The sites are right on top of each other and you have to pull down your blinds on both side of the camper for any privacy at all. There were dead trees all over and not much grass that was alive.
Really if all you are looking for is a place to unhook and then drive to the beach or into town - it's fine.

Reviewed 31 December 2009

We stopped at the KOA in St. Augustine, FL on Dec. 28, 2009. We did not have a reservation. We should have! The woman behind the desk was very indignant when we asked if they had spots for two RVs. She told us she had only one spot and that we should always make reservations. I asked her if she knew if the State Park was full. She replied that if the KOA was full, so was the state park. I also asked her if she knew of another campground, and she informed me that she was not a camper. She then handed me a book which was the Florida book of campgrounds. Yes we should have had reservations, but hey, help us out! Nothing.
As we left the park, we noticed at least 10 open spots. No big deal, maybe they were coming in later. I found another campground in the book she gave me and called them. Three miles south of the KOA was Ocean Grove RV park. They had plenty of room!!! They were very accommodating and the park is every bit as nice as the KOA. They had the sightseeing shuttles that would pick you up and take you to the downtown area.
