“Wasted Time”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

Came in during our visit to St. Augustine. Got in before the lunch rush on a Sunday. Waited 40 minutes as the restaurant filled up and still had no food. Every table came in after us and either had their food and or was already fed and gone. Made a few attempts to find out where our food was. Manager could have cared less. He offered a discount. By this time I would have rather spent my money elsewhere. He was gracious enough to pay for our soft drinks. Lol

“Another tourist joint”
Reviewed 25 June 2014

We took our granddaughter and my wife's sister to visit the Colonial Quarter and thought lunch would be a nice addition. The place was not busy and the food was not great. My toasted ham and cheese sandwich was barley warm and not to my liking. The Cuban roll was just okay. Just another tourist place.

“Nice restaurant near colonial quarters”
Reviewed 19 June 2014

Stopped for lunch at Taberna del Caballo. The restaurant has an early Spanish decor, which we were looking for. Menu isn't extensive but does have several Spanish items. My husband and I had the fabada, which is a white bean and pork stew. Very good. Our granddaughter had the chicken quesadilla, which she also liked. Reasonably priced.

“Sangria and Apps and Friends”
Reviewed 14 June 2014

This is a fun place to meet a group of friends . The outdoor tables allow plenty of room for a group. Good selection of beers, wine or well drinks but this place is known for its Sangria and they do not disappoint. Nachos, flatbreads, and beer cheese dip were yummy and great for sharing.

“A Traveler Steps Back In History”
Reviewed 14 June 2014

Every visitor to Saint Augustine must traverse by foot the entire of St. George Street. The history is present and perfectly at home besides the new buildings and shops offering just about anything one could desire from the classic to kitchy.
Once you have done this, Step into Taberna Del Caballo. Walk through the place and take in the charm. While it is a working pub/bar, it is also a museum of sorts.
Order a beer or sangria, and take a seat by a window, or even better, out side in back.
The atmosphere of this place changes at night, thanks to the lack of contrivances such as excessive electrical lighting.
But really, the thing that brings this place alive is when there are events such as Drake's Raid happening over the weekend. Why, you might ask?
Imagine being in a two hundred plus year old tavern where the people around you are also dressed to reflect the time when the place was first built.
It becomes less of a museum or place with an unusual atmosphere and more of a time traveler's step back into history.
Service can be slow or spotty, but I imagine that is how it was, so I'll excuse it as keeping the experience genuine.
If you really want to take it a step further, break out your best Nehru collared shirt and pack a wooden mug. Have both when you go. have said mug filled. Then take a photo or two.
After that, sip your drink, make a few friends, and take in history.
