Country Inn & Suites By Carlson, St. Augustine Downtown Historic District

Compared to most Country Inn and Suites this isn't up to par with most. BUT, the location is great and the hotel is clean. The staff was super friendly. This hotel in pretty much in the middle of everything and very close to all transportation. This hotel is more of a landing pad then it is anything else. Staying here kinda feels like a blast from the past given that the TV's are old fashioned.

Other then that there really isn't a complaints. The price was well worth the stay.

Hotel is located about 2 miles from downtown, so it's quite a walk. Whilst the lobby was recently modernized, the rooms definitely were not. And that smell... The whole building seems to have absorbed Florida's humidity. The A/C is ok but noisy. And those TVs... There is simply no excuse; one can get LCD-TV's for 100 USD. Internet is available but slow; and there where not that many guests in the hotel. Staff was very friendly though.

There is a very nice and newly modernized Motel nearby, right across the street (the cozy inn). I really don't know anything about it (and didn't read the reviews here); but we would have loved to stay over there and not in our "green house odorous" room.

Room Tip: Rooms are probably all the same, but those to the front look more modern (newly replaced windows...

We stayed one night only. The woman at the front desk was extremely helpful. The man helping in the breakfast room was accommodating and helpful as well. Our room was clean and the beds were comfortable. TV had plenty of channels. Plenty of amenities/towels. Free parking/breakfast/WiFi. Free shuttle to the red-train tour ticket booth. Had a great time.

We stayed there for 2 nights and were very dissapointed. The bathroom was in horrible condition with dust on every surface and poorly done drywall repairs. The faucets were loose from the wall and didn't allow for the best adjustment between freezing cold and scolding hot. We also saw several large roaches in our room. The pool is conveniently located next to San Marco Avenue so you get a nice dusting of exhaust and traffic. The bedroom tv only played one station and when we approached the front desk we were told it wouldn't be repaired until later the next day....after our stay was over. Breakfast was not what I felt was advertised. No variety in the days we were there. Round disks for eggs on both days. Very small eating area and the room temperature was warm. Never again. When I checked out they never asked how our stay was and barely looked up from the computer screen to take my room key back.

The hotel is located approx 2 miles from the old Saint Augustine area so you must drive to get to that area. The room was somewhat tired looking, the A/C very loud and the TV is almost a joke. On the plus side, the front desk people were courteous and the hotel parking is convenient to the rooms. The best deal is the trolly service that charges $23 per person but it is good for three days. They even pick you up at your hotel and take you to the main trolley station where you can get on and off at your leisure. The patter during the trolley trip is terrific and you actually learn a great deal. It was well worth the price.

Room Tip: Rooms on first floor do not have a refrigerator and do not get close to the doors going out to the p...

I'm really not that picky, I just expect a clean and comfortable place to stay. Once glance of this hotel room and I was already calling my friend who was on her way to stay there too to tell her how horrible the hotel was. We had a whole team of parents/kids staying there for a weekend sports event.

There was dust literally falling off the wall fixtures, the lamp was supposed to be brass but had these really gross splotches of I don't know what on it, the paint was like six different shades of tan/white where they had just painted over stains with no concern for repainting the whole wall or the trim so that it looked clean and done well. There was mold in the bathroom, the carpet was dirty and ripping up in numerous places. The bed was old, the sheets were old. But, the worst thing was the smell....the place smelled terrible.

I laid there just as still as possible waiting to get the heck out of there the next day. We were supposed to stay two nights, but we checked out early as did some of the other parents.

For less money, I re-booked us in the Marriott Beachfront Hotel in Jacksonville Beach. Don't waste your money here!

Room Tip: Ha, don't stay here!

We checked in to the hotel and the carpets in the room were wet. I went to the desk and there was a sign that said carpet might be damp well these were not damp they were WET. A gentleman came out and said that the carpet in that room had been cleaned that morning and to give us another room. The person at the desk did not know that the carpets had been cleaned. The next room the carpets were only damp but at that point we just wanted to settle in for the night. The wi-fi that they advertised was not working at all, even after given a cable to use with the computer. The person at the front desk was not very helpful and did not seem to know the workings of the hotel.
