The hotel itself is decent - and I loved the complimentary cookies. The girls who worked at the front desk were extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel was quiet and quaint. We overslept and missed the complimantary breakfast by only a few minutes, but the woman working it was very kind and offered us at least a bowl of cereal. The hotel was clean, but our air conditioning unit was EXTREMELY noisy. Best thing about this hotel is that it IS a stop on the trolley shuttle. If you're opting to utilize the trolley during your visit, it's a decent location. If you're opting to walk the downtown historic areas, it's a bit far off the beaten track.

From the moment we arrived and the room key did not work (to the point we had to get another room) this was a bad experience.
On first look the property seemed ok, but while I had the children in the pool, my wife called me in and showed me what looked like black mold in the corner of the ceiling line. At this point she just wanted to leave.

My wife brought this to the clerk's attention, the response was "oh well, what do you want me to do?" At this point we called the corporate office who were much more concerned but stated there was little they could do as each hotel was individually owned. They did however agree to refund our money. When we went to the clerk for the reciept, she tore it up and handed it to us.

We had stayed at a Country Inn in Maryland and it was an excellant experience, I like the setup at these hotels and hope this was an isolated incident.

We stayed here for one night on our way back from a spring break trip in Orlando with the kids. We had never visited Saint Augustine before and were interested in checking it out as we had heard good things about the city.

Most of the hotels we tried were booked, as there was a festival in town for the weekend. We found the Country Inn and suites and, from the outside and lobby it looked very good. The front desk staff was very helpful and friendly upon checkin. However, when we entered the room, it was very musty smelling and the bathroom was not the cleanest. However, as we were only staying one night, we figured we would stick it out. As we made a closer inspection of the room, my wife found several items that someone had left behind, including a woman's purse. I immediatly took the purse and other items to the front desk. The clerk did not act very surprised and stated that they probably belonged to the guest that had checked in to our room previously, but had requested a different room. I found this to be strange. In the morning when we went to take showers, we noticed that the tub was not clean and the faucit was practically hanging from the edge of the tub. We slept okay and they actually have a relatively good breakfast, compared to normal continental fare. Overall, I would say it probably is not the worst choice, but I am sure that there are far better alternatives.

At more than $100/night, we were disappointed in the quality and cleanliness of our room. We stayed here because it was fairly new construction. Unfortunately, mold has already crept into the room (ceiling and walls). The tiles on the bathroom floor were stained and the light fixtures hadn't been cleaned in some time as evidenced by the visible bugs and caterpillars.

Complimentary breakfast was a bit underwhelming with individually wrapped white bread slices and american cheese. The coffee was good and they did have a small selection of muffins. It was however nothing in comparison with other hotels' breakfast fare.

The front desk quality varied over the course of a week from courteous and friendly to absent minded and dismissive.

Location was fine. It was only a short two block walk to the tourist trolley that connected with the beach bus. The trolley was a good value and fun too. A CVS and a small store are within two blocks. There's also a mexican restaurant across the street that was fair and a chinese/Japanese fusion restaurant next door. It's true that you really don't need a car when visiting St. Augustine!

As for the Country Inn & Suites, you can do much better elsewhere.

Negatives-price, the room was over $100; lots of other choices in town between $35 and $100. Went to first room assignment and the heater unit was not working. Heater in 2nd room assigned wasn't great either, but adequate. It ran all night long. Poor workmanship on tiles, (stains) etc. Shower narrow.

Positives: Clean room. Home baked cookies. Staff was helpful and courteous. We got another room assigned to us (because of the heater) within minutes. Looks like nice continental breakfast (waffles, etc) we don't know for sure as we had to leave before it was ready. Great Mexican restaurant right across the street!

This is a great hotel to stay at, and even a better one if your child goes to FSDB next door. The staff was Great and the location to downtow is just a short drive. Rooms are just your regular hotel size rooms that are kept clean. Pool is Small, but the hotel is on a postage stamp, so the room for a pool is little. Other then that a good place to stay.

We've stayed at this hotel twice and found it to be clean and quite. We normally like to stay at Country Inns or Hampton Inns (with interior entrances). Even though the names are the same, we've found much variation within brand names. We've had both good and bad experiences at these chains. The price is much better if you call ahead instead of showing up later when the rooms start to get booked up. We called at about 4 pm and were still able to get a room w/queen beds for less than $80. We paid much more last time we stayed here because the rooms were getting full, we didn't reserve ahead of time, and we got there late. The first time, 2 years ago, we paid over $100 for a room. There were cookies there when we arrived around 9:30 which was nice becaue most of these places don't keep cookies at the desk consistently. There wasn't as much variety of breakfast items like we're used to at Hampton Inns, e.g., no yogurt, no danishes, no donuts (we had some at a Hampton Inn in Philadelphia). Additionally, the orange juice tasted aweful.
