“Hilton Garden vs Hampton Inn (right across the street)”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2014

We only stayed at the Hilton Garden once of all the times we have been to St Augustine. Unfortunately, the breakfast is pricey and the hot tub smelled very bad. I was scared to let my kid go in the hot tub. It literally smelled like a nursing home (to put it politely) . I was shocked. The beach access located across the street was closed and we had to pile into the car to go to the beach. We ended up parking in a designated beach lot that became so busy, we were hemmed in by cars parked in every square inch of space. We had to call the police in order to try to get out. Fortunately, someone moved and we were able to inch our way out. Since then, we have returned to St Augustine several times and always stay at the Hampton Inn, which has a very clean pool and a hot tub that doesn't smell.

Although a clean hotel from the outside - everything looked new - and a pleasant lobby and front desk staff, lets just say initial impressions will quickly be desolved in a pool of disatisfaction upon entering your overpriced room. (Do yourself a favor and stay at a Motel 6... which will seem like the Plaza Hotel in NYC or the 4 Seasons). The room furshings were cold, tired and sterile, there was mold in the shower along the ceiling, the beds although 'adjustable' were no more comfortable than if filled with sand. DO NOT PAY EXTRA FOR THE BREAKFAST!! The breakfast service was the biggest joke I have ever come across! The 'cook' in the back would often yell and argue with the only 1 server who was there - she would often disappear anyway and not to be found. We had to ask as did countless other guests for her to clean off the tables (she seems surprised at the request). Eventually a girl from behind the front desk cleaned off our table and I walked over and picked up the napkins and silverware for our family. The breakfast was inetible - I believe the eggs were cooked in lard or 'crisco'. The apple juice was so old that it smelled as if it was starting to ferment. (and I mean that adjective quite literally - my wife is a science teacher and she thought the same). Do yourself a favor... anywhere but this hotel - don't let the Hilton name fool you, and by all means, do NOT pay extra for the breakfast... an egg McMuffin and coffee from McDonalds would have been a treat - at least you know in advance what you are getting!

Enjoyed our overnight stay at this property. Front desk worked diligently to accommodate us as the room originally assigned us wasn't large enough for our party size. Easy access to beach, good restaurant next door- would definitely look to stay here again.

Stayed 4 nights recently on vacation. The hotel is a typical Hilton property. the rooms are a nice size with all the usual amenities. The bathroom, however, is a bit on the small side for two people but is very clean. Staff was a little disorganized but willing to try hard. Can't beat the location - a 3 minute walk across the road to the beautiful beach.

$179 a night we expected something more then the ordinary, yes the lobby was very nice and the desk people friendly but the room was no different then a $99 room, which some have been nicer. No balconies, only 1 chair besides the office chair and they lead you to believe there is a restaurant which there is not, room service only except for the buffet breakfast where they will fix you an omelet or French toast etc but all of that is $8.95. The public uses the hotel parking lot to go to the beach. Small sleeping pillows.

Room Tip: All rooms on both sides face the parking lot, choose the 3rd floor, don't know if it will help w...

My husband and I stayed here for one night just on a whim since we only live an hour away. The lobby of this hotel has been recently remodeled and it is very lovely. Overall the hotel was clean and the staff that we encountered were pleasant. We did not partake in the breakfast because we left the hotel before breakfast was served. If I had not gotten the much cheaper Federal government rate I'm afraid I would have been disappointed with the quality of the room.

Very nice hotel with pleasant staff. Also within walking distance of several good Eateries, beach right across the street. Lots of historical attractions in St Augustine as well Rooms clean and well appointed. I am a fan of the Hilton Garden and Hampton Inns. When we travel by car I like the idea that after we check in and park we can walk to places.
