“A hidden "paradise "!”
Reviewed 6 January 2012

Just spent 5 nights at the Island Inn on Pass a grille beach. Myself, husband and teenage daughter stayed in Unit B . Just the right size for us , with a separate bedroom and bath . We had a patio with water views every morning to wake up to . The "backyard" contained comfy hammock, swing and chairs all overlooking the Gulf and waterway. The landscaping included fountains ,that added a pleasant touch to wandering around the grounds! Very convenient walk to the beach , but I found the long private dock, my favorite spot , for sunset viewing and morning coffees ! Our hostess was very friendly and made us feel right at home . Would LOVE to stay there again ! Lots of good restaurants within walking distance as well . Very unique , hidden gem !!!!

This is a small, quaint, charming 5 unit place at the tip of Pass-A-Grille which is at the tip end of St-Pete's Beach. It has little fountains, a small frog pond, charming little stone tableaus scattered through the property in the plantings next to the wooden walkways. Two gliders that face the water next to their private pier and lots of chaises and chairs. Each unit has its own seating outdoors. The average age here is over fifty, with many of the families coming here every year for well over a decade. and making their reservations for next year before they leave. Many of the guests enjoy fishing which is easy here, off the pier, or standing on the beach a block away, while others, like us just swim and walk and read and relax. This place was about twice the cost of other accommodations in the area, but we felt the privacy and scale were worth it. The staff is professional and friendly,
and we felt lucky to, by chance call them, when they'd just gotten a cancellation. We've already booked for next year, this time for ten days, instead of seven, so that should tell you how we feel about this special place. I wondered why there haven't been any reviews on aTrip Advisor since 2008, but in talking to other guests during breakfast, we think that folks might want to keep this place a secret. However, we feel good fortune should be shared, and it was our good fortune to stay here.

Room Tip: Whatever is available is good. Keep calling.

At the tip of the friendly, sleepy little town of Pass-A-Grille lies a small grouping of cottages, gazeboes, fountains, and decks. The Island's End Resort offers private "bungalows" with kitchens, and peaceful views everywhere. We stayed in Unit F (2 people) which had a deck facing -- is it the Gulf of Mexico? Anyway, we were right on the water. You can't swim right in front of the resort, but it isliterally a one-hotel-length away to the extreme end of the public beach, which was quiet, private, and the water was clear and warm (first week of May). If you walk a few blocks down the beach, there is public restrooms, a beachfront grill, and many restaurants & bars across the street that offer great food and beachside dining. We LOVED the lazy town of Pass-A-Grille. It wasn't choked with tourists or loud with partiers. At the Island's End Resort, it's a private, do-it-yourself type vacation. It offers lots of places to sit and view the water while sunning yourself, AND there's lots of shade, too. We ate a few times at The Wharf -- we loved the locals & the delicious food at great prices. Very relaxed. The continental breakfast offered 3X a week is also a special treat, as are the people who own and run the place. I don't really want to tell the secret of finding this special place, but they deserve to be recognized for the great place they've built at The Island's End.

The location of Island's End is perfect! We celebrated our anniversary while there. The cabins are rustic and small, but roomy enough for 2 people. The private decks are a bonus and our deck looked out on the gulf, which allowed us to see dolphins several times! Each cabin has it's own parking space, which assures that you always have a parking space available! The people are very friendly and willing to make your stay as nice as possible. The only down side would be the price. It's kinda high. Would be much better if they offered lower weekly rates, or a discount on return trips.

Wonderful room in the sleepy part of St Pete Beach. We were in unit "C" which was even nicer than shown in the photos on the website. Great views from the dock and if you want to go to the beach, its just a minute away (your room is probably closer to the water here than at one of the large resorts that are "on the beach".)

If I had to find a downside, it's that you have no views from your room.

We spent 3 nights Island's End Resort, based on the reviews we saw on this website and a good review in a Foghorn travel book. We loved it! The place is charming, quiet, clean and a block from the water. It was such a nice change of pace, after spending a week with relatives in Orlando at a Hilton Resort. The Hilton was loud every morning with screaming kids and/or house cleaners. The pool was filled with screaming and running kids. This place was just what we needed to recuperate from the Orlando commerical/consumer/theme park, chain hotel, chain restaurant madness! This part of St. Pete beach is very quiet with no high-rises and/or fast food chains, etc... However, we had no idea there would be this "Red Tide" thing going on with dead fish - look at the other reviews and/or research on line about it. We came at the end of it, so it wasn't too bad, but be aware....

I visited in Dec 2002 for 3 nights. Stayed in cabin B. It was roomy, very comfortably set up for 2 people. Nice kitchen for prepping meals.
Old but well maintained and bright and airy. I loved the winding pathways through the tropical landscaping out to the dock. There were big pelicans on that dock almost every time I strolled out there. What beautiful birds. The shelling in front of the resort was the best I found during my week in the area! Unfortunately, starting the 2nd day of our trip and continueing the whole rest of our vacation-- it torrentially poured, I mean it was flooding across highways and a great big mess, it was a pretty sad place to be in the rain. I'm from Seattle, I was really disappointed to fly as far as I could cross country to wind up in a constant downpour. but the resort was homey and i would go back. I would like to rent the bigger cottage w/ the pool.
