We planned to stay at the Sirata for a few days to get away cold and wet back home. We booked a room for the two of us and our beagle. We generally take a couple of trips a year to Florida beaches with our dog. However shortly before we were to leave for Florida, I found that St Petersburg Beach has NO beach where dogs are allowed. The closest was Fort Desoto dog beach, some miles away.

But back to the Sirata. We changed our reservation to one night only since a beach-front hotel is useless if you can't use the beach. The dog friendly room was great. No carpet, but rather wood-grained linoleum, no old urine stains. The dog walk area was also close by.

Across the street and just down the road we found a restaurant (Skidders) that is also dog friendly with their outside tables.

Other reviewers are right about the nickel and dime fees. Especially when their rates are already higher than normal. Overall, we were pleased with the dog friendly aspects of the hotel, and would consider returning should the beach policy toward dogs be changed. Otherwise, we'll most likely avoid this area.

Dear Mandopickr,
It was so nice of you to point out the very positive aspects of our dog friendly resort. We have several rooms that do not have carpet and were designed specially for our dog owners. We have ample walking areas for the dogs, but St. Pete Beach unfortunately is off limits to dogs. Many of our guests use Fort Desoto Beach to run their dogs. It really is just a few miles away and was most recently named one the top family beaches in the United States. We thank you for your candid feedback and do hope you will return.

Classy and inviting. The only thing we found confusing is how a lower priced hotel or resort will include wifi and parking while Sirata nickels and dimes you after charging the big prices for beachfront. Did I say nickels and dimes? $9.95 / day for WiFi? $8.00 / day for parking? $15.00 / day for "cabana" which is simply 2 covered chairs that are totally worn and full of sand. Restaurants are ok but watch out for added charges!!! Go over your charges before you pay!!! Other than that, rooms are fine and lo and behold,,, there is NO CHARGE for the ice!

Dear KrybabyP,
Thank you for the nice comments about our comfy rooms and great beach. We are sorry you were disappointed in our other fees. Most of our competitors charge a substantial Resort Fee whereas we charge items like parking and Wi-Fi fees separately. Most guests appreciate this method. We do offer a Resort Saver Package that is inclusive of Parking, Wi-Fi and Cabana rental. We are constantly looking for ways to improve our facilities and service. You comments have been very helpful. We sincerely hope you will visit us again.

As the bride, they couldn't have done it any better! While this is an older hotel, accommodations are well kept, clean, and spacious. They have numerous bars and restaurants to attend with a lot also in walking distance. But the view is amazing if you have gulf view! I had the ceremony on the beach, the cocktail hour in their grotto area, and the reception up on the 8th floor with panoramic views. Everyone had a great time (many of my guests stayed here) and I look forward to coming back for our anniversaries! I will note if you are a guest during a wedding time, some of the areas will be roped off from you for a brief time, but nothing that would interfere with vacation. Highly recommend! Kelli is the best for coordinating!

Room Tip: The main conference center building is most up to date then their surrounding buildings on campus. Best choice is to ask for a suite with divider otherwise beds are next to each other.

My husband and I went to the Sirata for Thanksgiving dinner. It was the first time we had not spent Thanksgiving at home, and I was expecting to be disappointed with the experience. Well, I must say, the buffet displayed was lovely, the variety of food was huge and delicious and the service was excellent, staff was very attentive, right on top of everything. Kudos for a job well done. We were not disappointed.

We stayed here for 7 days in November 2013. The resort is a conversion from a Holiday Inn we think - and is also a convention centre. It was quiet at this time of year. The location is great and the staff were very helpful and friendly. I was a bit disappointed to find that parking would be $8 per day, Wi fI $10 per day ( Really you need to make it free guys) and a cabana on the beach $15/day..( they offer a package of $20 per day for all the above. We had a ground floor room facing the courtyard which was dark and stuffy, but the staff readily relocated us to a beach view room on the 5th floor when we asked - at no extra charge. The food at the beach bar is OK and a fine evening can be had sitting round their big fireplace listening to live music. Pools and hot tubs were fine and not crowded. car rental on site. Overall not a bad experience, but be aware the standard room is just a hotel room with little air circulation!!

Room Tip: Upgrade from Standard try to get in the main building facing beach but isnt too close to the noisy pools and live music.
